Rachmaninov, the last romantic. I love every single note of his compositions, that bring the imprint of his sensitive soul. The Lord gave him gigantic body and large hands, to hide the delicacy of his heart, but it flows spontaneously from his works and by his melancholic eyes. Thanks, Sergei Vasilyevich.

My favorite 3 minutes: 10:20, but really - so many favorite parts, the entire piece is stunning. Imagine the difficulty of composing this without modern advantages. Rach was a genius. For all of us composers: If we can master how to use a repeated phrase like Rachmaninoff, we'll be a big step ahead of most composers.

Just gorgeous. By the end of the piece, I almost feel exhausted. Sometimes great pieces being played by performers truly worthy of the music can leave you just overwhelmed and even tired by the end, you know? And I don't mean to imply that only the best musicians should play the music of the best composers, obviously. But, when pianists the caliber of say, a Daniel Barenboim, play Chopin or Rochmaninov, it often simply overwhelms me. This piece had that affect. I listen to KBAQ, a classical FM radio station broadcast in Phoenix, Arizona. So, I'm listening to great classical music often, but, about once every two to three days, I'll hear a piece--like I did this one some time ago--and I'll scramble to get a hold of the name of the composer and piece and make a record of it, so I can look it up and listen to it later. The attention to detail and the high-paced keystrokes that are so controlled that the players can actually keep the action of each strike soft...just amazing. It's so common to play loud when you're struggling to play fast. It's only natural to bang away as you're looking to keep a crazy fast tempo. It just shows the talent and discipline these passionate musicians possess. A for effort and an A+ for the finished product. A work of art for the ears! Rochmaninov would be pleased.😊

"Слёзы" - обожаю! Но эта пьеса, конечно, больше не для концертов. Её надо слушать только в полном одиночестве и с закрытыми глазами. А ещё её можно исполнять самостоятельно, в отдельности. А вот "Светлый праздник" почему-то вообще не нравится... После "Слёз" хочется только тишины и уединения, без всего этого последующего "шума"... | Исполнение гениальное! Большое спасибо! 🙏

I have nothing against Lugansky who is one of my favorite pianists but I do hate all those sighs about "the soul of Imperial Russia" (one of the above comments uses this phrase). The soul of Imperial Russia? Well, it's basically atrocities and bestialities, rape and murder, power, corruption and lies. Also, I'd like people stop talking about the spiritual Russians (actually, they themselves repeat this mantra ad nauseaum). I'd rather see Russians simply human, not so bloody spiritual. As for Rachmaninov's suite, it's so beatutiful I cannot help crying.

This contradiction is unrisolvible. Concerning this wonderful music coposed and played it is or not enaugh uman? ( but then what is uman?)
