So a lot depends on the various weather models and intuitive deduction. Continue north to get to stronger winds and when to tack to head south east in those stronger winds. Staying ahead of the high pressure. 8 to 10 knots when hoping the others are experiencing lighter winds. Either way it's an adventure. Charting new territory and gaining invaluable experience. You look very relaxed, comfortable and rested. Busy 3 to 4 days to come.

Excuse my ignorance , but aren’t solo sailors who go out on deck supposed to either be clipped in , have a life jacket on or both? I was nervous watching Boris bend down to put the sail away with his back to a large boom and sail. I know it was calm, so am I missing something ?
@jenfirth8032

You are right. However- the camera lens distorts the field of view so the viewer feels more insecure due to not having all the information
@drheaddamage

Boris is clipped in when the sea state is a bit heavier. In these conditions, the boom isn't going to suddenly flip over, and if he loses his footing, he'll just fall on deck. As for life jackets in addition to the lifeline, I believe the reasoning is a bit more gruesome: if you fall into the ocean in these remote locations, there is no benefit to having a life jacket on. Yes, you'll stay afloat for a bit longer, but there is zero chance of anyone being able to pick you up in time. The downside of wearing a life jacket out there is that it hinders your movements and might hinder an agile grab onto the lifelines at the last moment. Life jackets make a lot of sense closer to shore or when docking, or when sailing in a team, and one should never hesitate putting one on. Solo in the middle of the ocean, however: not so much.

These are the best and informative updates by far of the whole fleet. All french guys really suck regarding good marketing of their great sport. So many missed opportunities to get sponsors like Alex Thomson with Boss that would really push the teams forward, not only the top 8 boats. Sad to see that so many sailors like Pip do have to beg for a bigger sail. Or Biotherm with Meilhat who was constantly running on empty during the ocean race, although having a big brand on his sail.
