"Bambo" was the most ANTI-RACIST poem of its time. He showed Polish children that black children are generally the same as us. Tuwim wrote it in the 1930s and it was included in the school primer. At the time, in Germany, the black village in the Zoo was still shown. And in the USA, in the 1960s, introducing a black child to a white school required a police escort (Ruby Bridges). Meanwhile, in Poland, since the 1930s, children at school learned a poem ending with the words "It's a pity that Bambo, black and cheerful, doesn't go to school with us".

@@bezmozg565 Im far from being snowflake, I have black polish friend who does not give a f when we call him murzyn and he calls himself like that, I always thought that people who do not like that word, do not know the etymology (maur/moor, moreno), some even call it is m-word (lol) which is absurd anachronism. Anyway after all of that, I've met people who does not like it, because it is often used in racist context, like "100 lat za murzynami", "czarno jak w dupie murzyna" or even "murzynek", I understand that there is more to meaning of a word then only etymology, eg. historical context, good example is "Dziewica" - "virgin" and "dziwka" - "whore" which has similar etymology. I believe that it's better and easier for everyone to just say "czarnoskóry" or "czarny", just like I would not like to be called "whitey", "cracker" or "Polaczek". Color does not have any other conotations then itself, so it's the best word to describe other "race" without being edgy or mean on purpose. I know that Brzechwa was not racist, but we can be more empathetic as society today, without being woke snowflakes canceling everything on our way, we should not agree with every american/western cultural trend, but it does not mean we should not change anything ever and that we should not reflect about our culture at all. A good friend of mine is from Rwanda. His view on racism is very interesting. He said that Europe is a lot less racist than Africa. In 1994 you had the Rwandan genocide. This was a conflict between Hutus and Tutsis. In 100 days over 500,000 up to a million people got killed. You have the ethnic conflicts in Ethiopia that are still ongoing. There you have the Tigrayans, Amharas, Oromos and many other ethnic groups killing each other. The same is valid for many other parts of Africa. Here we tend to call the civil wars or something like that. In most cases they revolve around racial tensions.

OMG!! This is straight-up bullshit. I'm black, a female, American, and I followed a rock band, Breaking Benjamin across Europe in 2018, and I was pissed when the venue they were going to perform at was double booked. Now I was going to be in this country for 4 days with nothing to do. I was stuck in Wroclaw. I went on Couchsurfing to meet people at events. I also went to the city center and got started at. A little girl stared at me while I was eating and finally came up and smiled and handed me her teddy bear. It was the most precious thing i ever saw. The smile on her face when i said hello was sooo innocent. Her mother apologized, and I told her no, it's ok. I was later invited to a house party. I met other people, had mature adult conversations about life, tried polish food, and overall had a great experience in poland. Of course, I got stares, but it was out of curiosity. Crazy thing is, I saw some of the people who were staring at me were at the party. They were the most curious. Hands down, if i had the choice to live anywhere in Europe, I WOULD CHOOSE POLAND, then Denmark.

But not finding products I am used to find in my home country? Being thrown the name of a regionally famous Greek as a conversation starter? Feeling unsafe? All these are to be expected and dealt with, by adopting to the local circumstances! I avoid unsafe situations, as I do in my own country. I learned all about the regionally known Greeks so I can allow the conversation to go further and even joke about it! I cook using the local ingredients and came up with interesting variations- yes, I'm good at cooking! And most of all, I learned the language and the culture, so I can share some of my language and culture in a more meaningful way! Seriously, you can't expect a whole society, built from locals for locals, to accept and adapt to you, when you are not willing to do the same.... Multicultural doesn't mean Monocultural- expecting to find your culture dominating every place you go, is the real R -ism here! The 'Bambo' one has always irritated me. The whole point of the poem / rhyme / whatever you call it is to show that he's NOT different! Like "see? He also doesn't want to do his homework, just like you kids, listening! And he also doesn't wanna take a bath, when his mom tells him to,just like you guys listening!" Anyone who's a parent would recognize these things from their own kid. And any kid listening to it or reading it back when it was written would recognize it too. Fine, the kid in the rhyme is black, fine, the tree he likes to climb is a palm not an oak or something, like the kids here would climb. And those are the ONLY differences! The whole point was to show that these were INSIGNIFICANT! That we're all people (or that kids are kids everywhere, from the standpoint of the rhyme).

Ps: Fun fact ;) There are not many African Americans in Poland because this country did not invade other countries in search of slaves. The only slaves were prisoners of war, and all slavery ended with the Middle Ages. Freedom has always been the most important thing here.

@marcinktl1541 The UK never invaded any country in search of slaves. At one time, some British ship companies purchased the already enslaved Africans from the African people who had already made them slaves. The slaves were sold to Americans, none brought to the UK where slavery was against the law. Britain ended the slave trade, costing money which the British tax payers only finished paying off around 10 years ago.

I thought initially they were being ironic or satirical and that there would be a comical or humorous twist at the end. Unfortunately not, they were just being racist about Polish people and that's an irony I don't think they get. These are really unpleasant and hypocritical people. Thanks for highlighting this calmly and very fairly. Good video.

I'm a black guy from Venezuela... I've travel a bit (Colombia, France, Germany, Belgium and Mexico, where I currently live), and I've remotely worked with teams from all around the globe (China, Vietnam, Indonesia, India, Spain, Chile, Argentina, Austria, USA, Canada, Turkey aaaaand Poland). I don't see why Black Americans are so judgemental about some of these things... I like people staring at me, I like kids pointing at me, I like people taking photos (some people even have asked me to take a picture with them when I rock the big afro), I even like people asking me if they can touch my hair (actually was one of the things my wife asked me when we met, 9 years ago... which was great move on her part to the the physical barrier out of the way even before the first date ) or confusing me/comparing me to black celebrities (who the hell is bothered when confused with a celebrity anyways?)... those things makes me feel like a fucking rock star (I might be a bit of an attention whore? and also I have very little racial identity or self awareness to be honest... I'm William James, I'm not a fucking crayon... is just the way I was raised... but I digress...) I've never find any of these things offensive or racist in any way, shape or form... I take that people are curious about me, and I think that is just human to be curious about different people and different cultures. I haven't had the pleasure of going to Poland yet, but the people I've met from there make me think is a very non-racist country... and if people staring, pointing at me, taking photos or touching my hair is the only grievences there, I'll feel right at home. I'm a creative director, I'm a curious animal myself. I also like to stare, point out, take photos and touch the hair of strangers from different cultures 🥴. Black americans need to let their stigmas and victim mentality at the airport when visitng to another country and take life in a more positive and innocent way... not everything is "racist" or "offensive" unless you want it to be. There's no need to constantly be on the defensive... in fact, back when I was young and single, "girls from abroad staring, pointing or smiling at me" was the start of 90% of my travel mmm "stories", if you catch my drift 🤪... I mean what's their game plan here? Walk up to a red or blond Haired, 6 feet tall, blue eyed, East European god/godess and say: "Excuse me sir/miss, you are making me feel unconfortable with your staring, pointing, taking photos and smiling at me, please stop beign racist!!!" 🤓?... well that's a weird ice breaker... if that's case for them, then thank god natural for natural selection I guess 🤷🏾♂ My 2 cents, cheers from Mexico and sorry for my crappy English. ✌

The "Bambo" poem begins translated to the contemporary English would begin like: "Bambo lives in Africa, this friend of us has black skin". And it would end like: "It's a pity that joyuful black Bambo doesn't attend to school with us" (But hey, he lives in Africa, so how could he be in Poland in the same time?). Where could anyone see rasism in such poem?
@SerhijZdanow
3 ай бұрын
There is an entire forum dedicated to proving that "Murzynek Bambo" is a sign of racism among Poles. (I will not advertise it.) The "experts" focused on the assumption that the word "Murzyn" comes from the word "Moor", which has recently become offensive. The origin of the word itself is ambiguous. It may come from the Latin "Maurus" (inhabitant of North Africa) or the Turkish "Murza" (prince/aristocrat/scholar/commander). If they knew anything about the Polish language, they would know that it is a completely neutral word, unlike the words "czarny/charnuch" (black) and the like, which are very offensive. Additionally, in Polish, "how you say" is more important than "what you say". It is quite funny when dark-skinned people are offended that Poles do not want to use the offensive term "black" towards them.

Poland does not have a culture of small talk, people smiling at strangers in public, etc. I came here from the UK and i soon realised people are very straight forward and don't really do the "fake" pleasantries that are present in the UK/USA, in a way its more refreshing and honest. Its nothing to do with skin colour as i'm white as snow and i get the same treatment. They would do well to engage their brains and develop some self awareness, instead of looking to be the victim when something happens which makes them feel uncomfortable.

I remember staring at black guy at shop, because that's a rude habit of mine when I see someone interesting. The guy was visibly offended and I think he assumed I watched him to see if he steals anything (irl my thoughts were more like - he's cute). This was the first time I thought some black people might be delusional. I found the idea fascinating and since then I started to read more leftist books and publications and indeed once I read something written by a black feminist, which was an astonishing nonsense with no connection to reality whatsoever. Imo some foreigners seeing racism everywhere with no tangible evidence for it might have a mental problem and if they see Poland as a hostile country, then there's a good side of the situation, as our healthcare system probably wouldn't be able to help them to stop being upset with their false assumptions (and by that I mean it's really not good to deal with any mental problems - no racism here).

I am passionate about your story, the story of your country and the Eastern European and I know how much your people have suffered and I am very sad that you have to go through this and I fully support you for not accepting these people in your country! By the way, here in the south of my country there are many people of Polish descent and their cities are very beautiful too (I think we are the most versatile country in the world because we even had colonies of Japanese descendants, I myself am a descendant of Portuguese, Italians and native South Americans even with all this mix we don’t and never have conflict against each other🧐🤯🤔) I'm thinking about going on a trip to Europe this year and I want to go to the "Assumption of the Virgin Mary" party and I also want to go to the "St. I was in Hungary" party. I hope all the best for you and your country and that you continue to be increasingly blessed by God and the Virgin Mary! A big hug from Rio de Janeiro - Brazil🤗

All my life I've been discriminated and rejected by Poles, saying I'm not Polish, Im Canadian. They say I don't look Polish. Canadians did the same saying I'm not Canadian I'm Polish, from over there. I speak the language I was taught, perfectly. Poles talk down to me, Oh you speak so beautifully, it's so amazingly unbelievable. I speak 7 languages.

Ok, so as a Brit in Poland who's white, I can't say I've had many negative situations, apart from a 'dresse' on the Lecz-trans turning round to me, shaking his fist and shouting something like 'f**king Britain' at me....I just laughed and shrugged my shoulders. I have met a few people that have been beaten up...A guy from Hong Kong, because he was dating a Polish girl, my friends Rommel; although he seems to wander around and can end up in bad places I wouldn't go to at night: Also my friend Yomi has been attacked. I live near Lublin and they were in Lublin....but this is over a 16 year period. I do speak some Polish and strangers think I'm Ukrainian because of my accent; and one time a cashier in LeClerc thought I was French😂..." Ty masz Ładne po polsku...czy jestes Francuski?"....Generally I find Poles warm and welcoming, but in my experience..some people from smaller towns might be s bit reserved, cold or hostile. Occasionally someone has tried to short change me, but those situations have been corrected by either me telling them in Polish the right amount, and getting it....or giving them a maths lesson in English, and getting it. Siema stary druhu i powodzenia...

Mnie niezwykle irytuje w języku używanie słowa określającego czyiś kolor skóry ,w tym wypadku black. To czysto rasistowskie.

If they are "Black in Poland" and they feel that way, why are they there? How did they get there? Sick of racism on either side and in any country. Won't watch, I don't even care if the outcome is a good one. Just sick of the whole damn topic.

Dzien Dobry! I moved to Poland 8 years ago with my black friend and none of those things happened to him, actually Polish women loved him. Since I moved her it is much more diverse than it was 8 years ago. If other ethnicities want to come here they need to work, and acclimate into Polish society, there is no welfare state here for outsiders, which is great and not racist. These kids are clearly college students and unfortunately the leftist brain rot is alive and well in universities here.

I think they are just joking around. Actually, they laugh every time after saying a statement, so it's like a parody of everything far left enthusiasts say :D It's just for fun, and not a single word they say is true and they know about it. The second option is that they are just laughing because Polish people are simply too good, like a thief laughs at someone he robbed. But it would be really... sad.

I agree they're joking around but I believe it's at the expense of Polish people & for their own entertainment. So unfortunately I believe it's the latter😕 We already have a very negative reputation thanks to the EU & idiots like Al Jazeera, so most people believe it & are happy to kontinue it. But I really like how many People are willing to give the benefit of a doubt to them.. I've learnt through this video that this must be a Polish trait, which is beautiful.. either that or We're just naive 😬haha Thanks for Your komment! Love Life ❤

@@HektikHektor This is really sad. Why people, young, full of energy, spend their time making fun of someone? In addition, the place where they live... Their neighbors, friends, colleagues. I do not understand this. Incomprehensible. This kind of negative energy... It really makes no sense to me.

@@MiaKafe I absolutely agree! Unfortunately it's the disgusting toxik hatred for everything white that is taught in universities these days that is poisoning the youth & instead of blossoming & kontributing beautifully to society, they are turned into entities useless viktims, skreaming memorised garbage like a broken rekord player. Very sad but there is still hope for those of Us who choose to think for Ourselves.. and maybe one day some of them will too.. It really is a beautiful Life! Love Life ❤️

@@HektikHektor I heard long ago, that someone who bullies or tears down others really has low self-esteem, and tearing down others made them feel better about themselves, lifted them higher than the other person. Unfortunately there's no quick consequences for their actions to deter them, they will get away with disrespecting others, until in general all society is degraded. Keep on with your positivity, and may it be more shaping of people's thinking than the negative stabbing with words.

I have never been touched as much as in Turkiye, like they really liked my blond hair so they kept doing it over and over and over and over and over and over... It still frustrates me today when thinking of the moments 30 years ago. I did travel 3 times to Turkiye and the 3rd time the hotel owners father even cooked me dinner every day probably because I was the love of his 4 year old grand daughter with my blue eyes and blond hair. As someone from Finland where personal space is very important I still react when remembering that hair rubbing, I know they meant no harm and I do have soft hair so even the barber told me that she loved cutting my hair because it was so soft. My point is that even if my memories from there are very positive and happy, that experience left a mark so now when someone comes close to my head with their hand I move away.
