really a good card! used it in my Mac Pro 5.1 too. never had any problems, but you have to install/active the radeon Programm to see gpu temps, otherwise you will not get this information about temps. AND: it works straight out the box with open core legacy patcher :))

I bought a Radeon Pro W5700 recently with an HP VBIOS, and it's not working on my 2018 Mac mini. It does work when I put it in my Windows desktop, though. I'm using an Akitio Node Titan as my eGPU enclosure.

Do you need to patch it? to work in a Mac Pro 2010 2012 like RX 6800 syncretic patch and did you flash it to get boot screen or did you enable Gop ? Thanks

No, the 5xxx Radeons don’t need Syncretic’s patch like the RX 6xxxs do.

I have a big dilemma . I purchased the rx6600 (not the xt ) new at micro center and I had not realized I needed a windows pc to flash it to work with the Mac Pro 5,1 and I don’t have access to a windows PC . My question to you is this; would I be better served with the Rx 5xxx GPU or w5700 for performance? I am planing to use the computer for photoshop and video editing in Davinci resolve . I have not installed open core because I don’t have the original gpu that came with the Mac ( right now it has a sapphire dual rx-9 it has 3 gigs of ram ) which I think is using Dosdude 1 patcher because I don’t see the boot screen.

The RX6600 is a great card, and flashing it is a one-time deal. Once done you have a card that can be used in the Mac Pro and transported to a Windows PC. Don't you know someone with a gaming PC? I used my son's to flash an RX 6600 XT and then an RX 6800. The company I work for has some older workstation PCs in reserve for "just in case". They would have lent me one with no hard drive for a weekend so I could have used it to flash a GPU.

@@douglas_edward I am just now getting into tinkering with computers and I don't have a group of friends who have a PC, I am already looking for an inexpensive pc to do the flashing on the RX6600 but I didn't want to go through the trouble if, for example, the w5700 would give me close to the performance of the RX6600.

I was running Monterey with Rx580, after a swap of graphics cards. I could not boot back to Monterey, I initially thought I knocked the NVMe on the next lane. However, two weeks later tonight, I had tried numerous methods to reinstall Monterey but nothing, always stuck at 1/4 of the Apple loading screen. I'm trying to install Catalina now :)

@@terrenterren4856 I haven’t had any such problems with mine. I also used an RX 580 to get to Monterey and then just swapped the GPUs and no problem. Is the W5700 known to work in a different machine? Could it have a modified VBIOS? I had that problem with my RX 580 initially and had to get the original VBIOS from TechPowerUp then flash it in Windows. After that it works fine in macOS.

Thanks for your reply Douglas, no, nothing at the USB-C port. The funny thing is I can use the w5700 with Mojave OS - with limited functions. So far, no luck with Monterey, nor Big Sur or Catalina. Perhaps something about the graphics Card. Its a new HP reference W5700. Considering it works natively with Mojave, it really should with the Monterey. I'm seriously scratching my head over this.

How works the usbc port in Monterey
@douglas_edward
3 ай бұрын
Works great EXCEPT that when the Mac boots with anything plugged into the USB C, I get no display. Once booted the port works fine. I have a Sandisk Extreme 1050 MB/s external SSD. In this port it runs just under 1,000 MB/s. It's the fastest port on the Mac by far, much faster then my older USB 3.0 card.

@@douglas_edward Ok thanks do you need any pixlas mode and Ava you tried it under Ventura or Sonoma with OCLP 1.5 Thanks
@douglas_edward
3 ай бұрын
@@2HLPUBLISHINGRECORDSKevinClark no Pixlas mod. It needs 205 watts which is fine to power from the backplane and slot as long as you install bridge cables so the power draw from the two backplane mini 6 pins is balanced. No go on Ventura or Sonoma. The Navi drivers in those OSs require the CPUs have AVX2 instruction sets. The classic Mac Pro CPUs don’t. Unless OCLP patches the graphics drivers in the future, Monterey is the last OS for this GPU.
