After genuinely believing my towel rail was been broken for the past year I can’t Thankyou enough for this Video! I know it looks relatively straightforward, and i guess it is but I’d also manage to lose the top/lid of the left handed valve so that just added to my confusion of which one was the correct side to even be turning 😅👍

Our towel rail is confusing. Two values. Both the same, both silver with no markings. Because of they are mirrored, you have to face the left one to work out which is clockwise and face the right one to work out which is clockwise. Both appear to control the flow of water into the rad. If turn left fully clockwise appears to lock the flow even if right is anti clockwise and had been letting water in. Turn left value anti clock and water comes in again. Turn right anti clock till it locks and water doesn't come in. Really confusing and don't know which one to play with. Bled the rad so now whole thing gets hot but have now also noticed the pressure in the boiler dropping since I fixed the air issue in that rad. Bot values get hot to the touch so much so you need a towel to turn them so you don't burn yourself. I should do a vid as might make more sense but this rad confuses me no end.

Sometimes you do have 2 return valves in a bathroom on the radiator connected to the hot water for summer use and some people get confused on this too it might be worth mentioning

My towel radiator is too hot and unfortunately for me both valves have the same cap that you can turn it off and on. which one one of them can regulate the hot water?
@dereton33

Either of them, but do not switch it completely off as it is your bypass radiator.

Hi helpful videos thank you. I was wondering if you can help. I live in an apartment and there is a cold water pipe in a hall cupboard which runs from below my apartment (car park below mine) and up through two others above. There is a loud bang every 12 seconds on the dot which can last for over an hour or more. I think this is a water hammer? The 3rd floor may have washing machine on (not sure) but can hear a few bangs at random times maybe when they turn taps on also. The bang is so loud. Any ideas?
@dereton33
3 жыл бұрын
Yes water hammer, see if you can ask your neighbours if they get the noise too. When you find which apartment it is, just turn down there main stopcock to a slower flow rate.

Great video👍 I’ve got to remove a radiator in a few weeks, I’ve seen some plumbers remove rads in work without draining the system down, then obviously turn the rad upside down to store it (full of water) it is a two man job. Would you recommend doing it this way? Do you have a video on this? Cheers
