That's awesome! It puts to rest two things that I have been told are impossible; forming polycarbonate without a high vacuum, and making a decent plug out of cement. Can you tell me a little about the cement plug? Is it just plain cement, or did you add aggregate? Is it solid and strong? (my experiments have always turned out crumbly) It looks shiny - do you have some kind of coating on it, or did you somehow manage to achieve that level of finish on cement?
@garyworthing
7 жыл бұрын
Hi, the best mix seems just cement and sand, I tried plasticiser, but it made the finish to smooth and shinny which doesn't allow good air flow. Yes its strong, a lot stronger than plaster.

Gawd i hate videos by people who are just showing off, the way their titles are usually worded leads you think they're going to be providing information that can help others but instead they share no information and even position the camera in a way that you can see them doing it but not see any actual details that would help others just like this dude did.....

@@garyworthing would you say this is as good or better than plaster? Any reason you didnt use plaster? Cement is way cheaper ive found, id like to use it as the mould im making is 1/5 scale. I plan to bulk the centre with foam to save weight but itll still be a lot of cement/plaster... thoughts?

Why did you use concrete?? Do you spray the mold with a release agent?
@garyworthing
7 жыл бұрын
I used cement as its a lot stronger than plaster or paris that I was using. The plaster molds broke from the strength of the vacuum. No release agent needed. Works best when the cement had a slightly matte finish, it is very hard to release if the cement has a glossy finish.

You could use an OUTDOOR Plaster of Paris.(Cassini plaster).the same stuff they use for moulding garden statues..weatherprood..smooth and TOUGH. They have it in the UK and the USA (th latter has a different name something like Ultracal.....)

He was showing start to finish it takes 5 minutes to make a body. What was wrong with that? Just use the little fast forward feature of it bothers you. You’d probably complain if he had a video just showing the vacuum process and tell him it’s too short how did he get there, how long to heat? And so on...
