It's funny because this set actually capture Pretty Young Thing and advertised it as the single from the new album. '83 and '84 were two of my favorite years from that decade being at the height of Jackson's Thriller time and New Wave at it's peak.

This was great and it brings back so many wonderful memories. I had Zena jeans back in the day. I loved them. The Air Supply commerical is great. I have a box set that has Bill Withers singing for Dr Pepper as well. Sundays were just better when we could listen to Casey Kasam and Dick Clark. I really miss that and with the exception of events like the Super Bowl we have lost the value of shared experiences. There are very few events that we all share together. Thanks for doing such an incredible job in putting this together. I love those box sets and it's great to hear and see a wonderful discussion about how important they were back in the day. Take care.

Again, thank you the wonderful gift and for serving as an inspiration for it all. Before you started talking about these sets, I had never really considered looking into them at all as a collectable but I really do get nostalgic for the 70's and 80's radio. Moreover, I am happy XM radio does replays of the old Kassem broadcasts on the weekends. Before this, I had a few artist specific shows on CD but they were all from the 90's. I really wish I could have done this video several months ago but work has been getting in the way of things as of late. Plus, I made the process of putting out a video way more complicated than it needs to be but I hope the end product is watchable in the end ;)

At the fifty second mark I saw that you added a D to the middle of your channel name. Did I miss out on something here? I hardly think you would ever do so without reason. Your editing and intros are way too cool & clever for you to make a typo. So good to see you back Paul. I was never a big fan of Dick Clark. But Casey Kasem is a completely different story. I loved the American Top 40 show. Loved Wolfman too. As you mentioned American Graffiti meant so much to me as a kid. I was twelve when the movie was released. I saw it three times at the theater. The Fonz's roll was definitely influenced by the ever cool John Milner played by Paul Le Mat. Perfect casting for the Richie Cunningham role as well. The Midnight Special along with Don Kirshner's Rock Concert were the only two live music shows that we had in the pre-MTV days. We did not have it that bad back then Paul. {smile} You got to send me an email someday. I would love your advice as to the best and easiest software to use for editing videos. I have some great ideas but I do not know where to start. Fantastic intro. Fantastic video. I hope the weather has been sunny and warm in Texas. I miss the endless summer already~ Rob/Boston

Ha ha! That was a total typo ;) You have a good eye and I am too lazy to correct at this point. It's funny how those things can sneak by you in the edit and I spent a long time on this one due to work. An hour here and an hour there over a month. As Stan Lee would say, 'You get the 'No Prize' for that one.' Dick Clark's show didn't make it to Wyoming at all. At least, not that I can remember. Casey Kasem was unavoidable and was my intro to so many pop hits back in the late 70's and 80's. My uncle had some of his early radio broadcasts on tape which were copied for me. They were probably from the mid-sixties and I used to play them all of the time. It wasn't until much later when I discovered the American Graffiti film. I think I saw it first in high school. But boy was it ever treat when I did see it. Happy to give some advice on video editing software and there are several good basic packages to start with. For a beginner, I recommend Filmora or Adobe Premiere Elements. All of my early VC videos were done on Premiere Elements. I've gotten a little too advanced now and I probably waste way too much time on creating daft intros and other bits.

Hey Paulito.... So happy you did this. I don't particularly collect radio broadcasts (as in popular musical radio) but I do have a couple of Dick Clark broadcasts and a handful of Casey Kasem American Top 40 broadcasts (70's) on vinyl. Oh, and of course original Dr. Demento Broadcasts. But what I do focus on collecting that pertains to radio, is OTR. I have a massive and thoughtfully currated collection of OTR (Old Time Radio) broadcasts. All types, though my favorite programs were Westerns (Have Gun Will Travel, Gunsmoke) and Mysteries / Thrillers (The Creaking Door, Suspense, etc.) and a lot of other programs. I have some of that stuff on vinyl, and some on CD, but the majority of my collection is on Cassette Tape, released through various companys. This was a great video. Hope you're well. - TONE

Hi Paul. Very interesting to pic here. I don’t think we have something equivalent here in France. It’s probable that either transcription reels or vinyl were made but for archival purposes. You can however find some recordings of radio plays ; they’re hard to find. Both - I listened to shows from the 30s and loved them as a kid - but they were a different type of radio. These kind of radio shows are neat too if you grew up with it, my friend Dave collects them... if you didn't I think they probably aren't even a curio. Being a ham, I was always fascinated with radio... but I never actually got my music from them - it was everything else, and in the 90s I usually listened to talk radio before it became what Rush made it into. As for King Flour - I have several "sourced" and I had seen the LPs a few times in NY record shops.

It's funny because in grade school we had a literature class where we had to listen to a given radio show from the 30's or 40's and compare them to a book. It's amazing how things have evolved in the decades that followed. We listened to a bit of talk radio too but when Rush joined the scene and started the polarization of the media, I had to turn it off.

The King Biscuit LPs are my favorites, but the prices are getting pretty crazy in good condition and with the cover. I have just started collecting the CDs as they seem to pop up pretty regularly. I do have a number of the live shows from AFRTS, which I love because I live in Germany as a kid, and Japan as an adult listening to AFRTS. The recruitment adds were for the kids. There are recruiting offices on most bases overseas for the family members of the overseas service members. I also have a number of stand alone live shows from random stations. I know I have a live Y&T album from a local station, don't remember which off hand.

I absolutely love radio broadcast album unfortunately I only have one authentic one, it’s a Westwood One broadcast of guns and roses live from the Ritz. Probably one of my most prized possession, sound quality is great, the commercials are really nostalgic and I love the in and outro. There is just some thing about the radio, that’s why do you prefer listening to SiriusXM as opposed to any other streaming services. There’s just something about listening along with somebody. However when it comes to the unauthorized second hand radio broadcast it’s very hit and miss. I do have a king biscuit hour, unfortunately it’s not a first hand but it is A trademark of quality pressing, one of the best sound quality radio broadcast albums I have.

I bet that GNR set is killer if it came from Westwood One. I always hit up eBay now and again to see what's out there as I feel most are as good as an official release. On Zeppelin, I was collecting TMOQ boots of the BBC recordings before the BBC set was officially released. This is how I knew they made cuts to the official release. It just made it more appealing to find something that was little more legitimate. I agree with your comment on SiriusXM. Despite it's compression, I do like the DJ banter from time to time.
