My Morse Code Journey #8
No SSB until I am fluent in Morse Code
Rocky Flats Wildlife Refuge used to be Rocky Flats Nuclear Weapons Fuel Facility and had some unfortunate releases of plutonium over the years and is still a source of controversy to this day! It still has some radioactive problems but its on the POTA list so what do we do? We activate! Today I got the (tr)uSDX transceiver in the main and just in time for this activation!
It isn't a YAESU or an ICOM radio but for about $120, it will totally get the job done! It was very quiet and the built-in speak (admittedly from the designers) sucks to put it simply. I used an active (powered) external speaker and it did pretty well. The conditions were not that good but the clear signals wear loud and clear on this little gem. If I wasn't filming I would have used my headphones and would have had no complaints at all. I made contacts from coast to coast from this park in Colorado. The best part is I can carry this thing as an afterthought and still make contacts all over the place!
WORTH EVERY PENNY!
