the hottest thing in my collection atm is actually the depleted Uranium check source on my one CDV-700

Realy? How many counts? :) The spiciest thing in my collection is a piece of fiestaware that get up to 7mr/h on my gmc-500 plus, or over 7,500 cpm!

Spiciest item I have (for now) is my pitchblende sample ~800-850usv/h as measured by my radiacode 103, given detection size and local hotspots I believe it’s safe to assume that baby is putting out over a millisievert

@@Rainman787 amazing :) That's a very very special sample. My Czech uraninite only reads 230uSv/h on my RC-102.

What is a reasonable price to pay for a good sample of pitchblende?

Depends on the size and the activity. I have a reasonably size piece that is around 100uSv/h and I paid £70 for it on eBay. Around £50 for a decent piece is the price to aim for.

This is fascinating stuff. I have a few bits of green glass which have a reasonable amount of activity. I am deeply envious of a meter with actual click reporting - my digital unit gives an output in beeps.

You can get really good deals on these meters on eBay from time to time. I paid more than £200 for this one but I have seen older models sell for less than £100.

I don't understand... alpha and beta are supposed to be stopped by glass, but when you put the cover on to get gamma only you get a bit less counts (even though there's a glass plate on the clock)

I have since discovered that the cover is actually thin plastic, not glass.

I don't think 500uSv/h is comparable to the core of Chernobyl reactor 4. You're off by a factor of about 100000 lol. Still a great video tho with nice samples!

Took me a while to work out where you thought I said ‘core’..... I said it was comparable to ‘THE CLAW’ at Chernobyl which is a massive mechanical claw that they used during the liquidation.

So wild to consider how inactive it is at this point, not to say 500uSv/h is child’s play just interesting to consider, one only knows how many curies of material has been washed away by rain
