There's also a 4 song solo piano Thom Yorke: From the Basement that isn't talked about enough. He plays Videotape, 2 songs from IR Disk 2 and a song from The Eraser. 2:26 IMO the timing in Weird Fishes is part of the fun. Ed and Jonny are on different tempos and it really sells a feeling that the music is fluid. Like waves in an ocean, where everything moves separately and together at the same time. As much as the OKC > KA > Am > HTTT stretch of albums emphasized overlapping harmonies, IR > TKOL (and to a lesser extent AMSP) all deal heavily in polyrhythm. I think one of the reasons I like Weird Fishes as much as I do is that it feels like the best mixture of both layers of texture that Radiohead likes to employ (overlapping harmonies and overlapping rhythms) together in one song.

Maybe an unpopular opinion, but Ed O'Brien is kind of like the John Paul Jones of the band. He's sort of the connective tissue to many of their songs. You can definitely see all the minor subtle things he does live. And when he gives out his "eeeeeeeedddddddd" it gives me goosebumps.

The intro of Lucky though, all that "ambience" sounds in a lot songs that he makes (and Treefingers is the highest point of that). I hope to hear him sing in his upcoming album (he only have released one instrumental track from it).

I'm not certain but I guess it's probably just what they would have played on the In Rainbows tour? It feels like the HTTT songs they picked were chosen purposefully because they sort of fit in with the sound of the In Rainbows stuff. The mixture of lively intricate rhythms and ambient textures on songs like The Gloaming and Myxomatosis feel like they directly inform the sound of In Rainbows. The fuzzed out sounds and Kraut-rock grooves of the latter in particular seem to hint towards In Rainbows tracks like Bodysnatchers and Jigsaw and the way they perform those HTTT songs seems to allow them to fit in pretty neatly with the In Rainbows aesthetic.

I think a big part of why the basement version is MUCH better is mainly 3 things. When the original version Tom was still recovering emotionally from his darker days. The basement was when he started to have fun with his music and his life again and had gone through a lot of growth. Conjointly the band also had a lot more experience and they rearranged most songs. You can hear a lot of their greater acquired mastery over their instrument through the various unconventional manipulations of the instruments that are just perfectly balanced and on point despite being weird as plushie fuck. And yeah, in Rainbows from the basement is, in my opinion, the best thing Radiohead ever did. I can play it 10x in a day 7 days a week and not get tired. The energy and emotion it radiates are really different from the original, the original is depressed but hopeful, while the basement version is a catharsis after the pain. If I could make an analogy, it feels like an angel breaking through the dark clouds guided by a beam of pure light while the original feels more like a wretched war refugee seeing the first few rays of sun in days amidst a war thorn brown land with broken houses. Also yeah, the recording quality on this live is the best I've ever heard from anyone.

"Wonder how they make those sounds?" Effects pedals, outboard gear and professional level creativity. "Why is the sound quality so good?" This is a studio live, where the recording enviroment is more controlled than on a live venue, more time can be put into planning the recording and so on. It also helps that this is Nigel Godrichs' studio (he is Radioheads producer) "Why is he playing but no sound is coming out?" He was recording a loop for the drop that was coming up. That's the weird delay you mention afterwards.
