Always enjoy watching your garden updates! Finally got all my veggies planted, made a pollinator garden in the front yard, and made another veggie and flower garden area in the back.. I’m tired! 😂

Let's talk collards. This is my first year growing them, cooking and eating them. What kinds of problems bug wise do they have and what's the best way to control the pests without chemicals? Thanks.

Love Collards, About the only challenge you will run into with them is that darn cabbage moth. It will lay its eggs on the underside of leaves and the caterpillar will wreak havoc on them. A couple of solutions. I always use BT and Neem oil together (both organic). BT kills anything there already and Neem will disrupt the breeding cycle. The second option is row covers, Since brassicas don't need pollinators, it is OK to keep them covered. Happy growing.

Hi Rick! New subscriber here :) I recently came across your video on spraying with B.T. and Neem oil concentration. I wanted to know how much you of each do you mix and the water amount? I am new gardener and my plants have been run over by aphids, spider mites, worms ( caterpillar) and leafminers :(((( I am desperate

Hi zooloo, welcome to the channel. Sounds like you have a cocktail of unwanted pest. Mix about 1oz of BT, 1.5 oz of neem per gallon of water. Use either a pump or hose end sprayer. Add just a touch of dishwashing liquid to act as a surfactant and smothering agent. Spray early in the morning and not the heat of the day. (Make sure to get under the leaf as well) that's where most moths lay their eggs for the caterpillars. Good luck and happy growing.

lol, yeah I will sit out there with some scotch and a cigar at times and find surprises the next day that I either moved or planted something. Life of a gardener some times.

What does a person do with radish. I've never had one.

If the radish greens are still tender then you could use them in a stir fry or raw.

I guess Hank is still sleeping. You had another channel. Is it still active? I looked for it and couldn't find it. Have a great day. Best wishes Bob.

Hey Bob, Yep still a bit early for Hank. I am seeing some honey bees now so probably not much longer. I did start another channel, it is dedicated to lawn care and landscaping. Thought about integrating it into this one but the dynamics are different and doesn't follow the cadence I try to do with soil samurai gardens. The channel is called "Rick withTurf Tyme", the link is here kzitem.info/rock/9GFJ7Kl8J_jK8MhLawm0Ag?view_as=subscriber. As always, thanks for coming by.

The extra cool weather has been a pain in my @$$ lol. It killed off my Zucchini 3 times. My sunflowers havent come up yet and I'm about to give up on them. I have no idea what happened to my tomatoes. They are alive but real wonky looking. For the first time I think I'll have to tie them to their cage. I'm scared for my peppers. 🙏 Please dont die. Only thing that is truly doing well is our strawberries. But damn this Kansas weather!

This crazy Kansas weather truly is interesting. At the moment, it is still cool weather crop season but it will be turning into warm weather stuff here pretty quickly. If your tomatoes and peppers can hang on a few more weeks, you will be golden. Life of us growers, ups and downs. Thanks for stopping by :-)
