Johnny Aleman I am the same age as you. with a 10 year old daughter. her mother and I have been devorsed for 9 years. this love triangle thing is all she knows. After 9 years of every other weekend , it never gets any easier to drop her off after my weekend with her is over. I pray every day that my little girl knows that even though her mother and I couldn't be together I still have unconditional love for her. This song really hits my heart.

That's what it takes to be a great dad and a real dad my biological dad didn't come around and I'm twenty three now and he still don't come around that's why I look at another man as my father he treated me as one of his own children and would tell you I was his son but sadly he passed away in 2015 I miss and love him deeply may he rest in peace

The people who get to see their mom and dad everyday just don't understand how good they have it and they never will. The mom and dad get more happy and the kid just breaks down, it's not fair and it will never be. The kid is the person who gets most affected. I hate being caught in the middle. To all those kids who get caught in the middle just like me, just remember that you are loved!

Even when my mom and dad never divorced, most of my time growing up was with them fighting about everything, I even felt guilty for having been born. I heard this song long ago thanks to a Spotify suggestion. Her whole first album is very very good, she kinda drifts away in later releases, but I'm very glad that people nowadays are still discovering this song, because such a gem deserves to survive time.

If you split up & are so much happier & there is peace in your home ...your kids will be so much happier too. Parents always say they stay for the kids but growing up in a house where your parents either ignore each other or are fighting all the time is no way for anyone to live. Good luck

To ALL kids who get caught in the middle. We as adults are so sorry. WE LOVE YOU!!💖💙 Edit update: I just got a notification stating that somebody had left a comment under my original comment. I never saw ANY of these comments until today 2 yrs after my original posting. I just want to say it broke me down in a serious way and made me SOB happy tears that I was able to apologize for SO MANY parents who seem to be unable to do so for themselves. We as adults need to realize the damage that we do sometimes, and an apology (a heartfelt one) costs nothing. On behalf of all adults yet again, I am SO SORRY to ALL of the children who get caught in the middle. We NEED to do better for our kids. Let's be a better humanity. 💖💙

So I’m the only one really stuck cause my brothers have nothing to do with each other n their ex step parent since my dad left.

He got a girlfriend who was a single mom with a little girl my age at the time & the girlfriend become jealous of me because she wanted my dad to do the same exact things he did for me for her little girl too& then it become him only doing things & buying things for his girlfriends little girl because of jealousy. They would steal or cut my clothes up when I would come &. Stay with my dad because of course they all lived together. He got me a burger from McDonald’s one time & I came through the door with it & his girlfriend got upset. Another time I can remember him telling me we can’t go eat Chinese because he don’t have the money so my mom & step dad ended up taking me & when we went inside to eat my dad was sitting down with his girlfriend & her little girl eating.

Lin Heathcock I'm so sorry if it makes u feel better I lost my mother 5 months ago and I miss her so much I told her everything and she died cuz her liver failed then her lungs filled up with fluids then her heart went and my gma told my mom when we where driving to Dallas to bring her home my gma told her that we where comping and she was in a coma and a tear ran down her face and she waited for us to get there then I herd the beep that the hospital thing makes when someone dies that was the worst sound ever then my dad came in the room I was in with my brother and sister and said she did not make it that was the worst day of my life I missed a whole week of school and all every one wanted to talk about was my mom and I told my teacher. And she let me go home it was so much that day and omg this is the worst thing ever love ur family and respect them u might not have them tomorrow 😭😭😭 R. I. P. Mom 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

I wish it was my life! My dad left when I was 6 because my brother caught him in bed with someone else. 15 years later got back in touch with family. My brothers loved it. Thank you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for writing such a heartfelt, vulnerable song. I've searched everywhere for a song about such a relatable issue & when I finally heard it, it took my breath away. There aren't many songwriters who talk about growing up with divorced parents and the struggles that results from it, but I am so thankful you did. It's nice to know I'm not alone. Thank you, Raelynn!

This is crazy... this is my story almost.. Ford Diesel Pickup Truck picked me up everyother weekend. My Big Brother got the front seat and i forever stayed quiet and ignored in the back for the 2 hour ride to his house.. survival of the Fittest over there. It sucked being in the middle of my parents hate at that time.. They used us against eachother... certain diesels still give me the Chills down my spine when i hear em coming. Ultimately Thank you♡♡♡

"and i run to him,big hug, jump in.And i cry for her out the window" got me balling my eyes out..3 years ago (im 10 now) my parent's divorced...when they told me and my brother,it was the first time i saw my father and brother cry. People then started making fun of me.. but my friends helped me through that! To get through ur parents divorce,my tip is to find good friends, stay strong, and just know it wasnt ur fault. Not all things are gonna work out perfectly. I see my father every tuesday and thrusday, and every other weekend. And my mom..monday,wednesday,and friday, and every other weekend. I remember one of the fights they had after they divorced,my mom came over on a tuesday(her birthday) and she wanted to take me from my father, and my father say 'no', so she flipped out and threw stuff at him,and i remember him yelling to calm down, but she wouldnt, and my father said to stop (because i was right next to them, crying histerically) so my mom threw my brothers game controller at my father..and i yelled at her...that day was a officially the worst day of my life...well that's all, remember, nothings ur fault,i wish everyone luck! stay strong

This song definitely is so under rated. If anyone has divorced parents like me, I bet you can relate to this deeply, at least I do. My parents got divorced when I was only 3, I've lived with my mom in many apartments, my grandmas house, and finally a condo now, but it is often hard to go to my dads every weekend. I'm getting older now and having parties on Friday's or having sleepovers and I feel like I hurt my dads feelings when I can't go over. Anyways, sorry about the rant, it's hard to often choose between each parent. This song definitely helps me make it through the night many times.

Liv128 Your comment touched my heart. I'm glad you wrote it, I'm sure it helped a lot of other people who have gone through something similar. My parents were divorced too, and it has so much affect on you. But God works out everything for those who love him. My advise would be to have balance. Of course spend time with your friends! But make time for your dad and your mom. Time is so precious and we cannot get it back. And don't feel like your missing out on much with your friends! Those moments you can spend with your dad can be even better girly! ❤️️❤️️❤️️

This song makes me cry because my mom and dad divorced when I was five, and when your around that age, your probably going to thing both of your parents are your heroes, now I'm older and I understand. The bad thing is this song gives me bad memories because all I remember when I think of my parents divorced is me as a five year old having to hear my parents yell at each other. That isn't the best thing to hear as a five year old. The good thing is that if my parents stayed together I never would've met the people I know today, like my best friends. I've been to four different schools and at three of them, nobody ever talked to me and I was alone because I was never happy, that's a reason why I am a loner today, with only two close best friends. But ever since I went to the school I go to now, I've made friends, although I didn't plan on having any. I'm still always sad, although at some moments in life, I may not look sad, don't believe everything you see, I am truly broken on the inside. I always have been broken, for many reasons that I would not like to talk about. If you think your the most broken or sad, like something happens to your parents or people close to you, I think the people who are hurt on the inside face much more pain, because if someone dies like for example your sister/brother you haven't hurt yourself any, that's just your feelings. I think that if something happens to you, it is much more powerful then when that affects someone else. Because your the one feeling the pain, not them, so they can't describe the pain of what happens. I'm hurt on the outside and inside, and everyday, my best friends are concerned for me because they always ask, 'What's wrong?' and I of course say, 'Nothing.' or sometimes I don't even respond. I know people have it worse out there, but even when I look happy, I'm never happy on the inside, I may smile, but it's probably fake, I may act silly, but it's only because I don't want people to worry about me. If you've read this far, thank you, it means the world to me that people actually read this.

I kind of know how you feel, because my best friends parents got divorced, and then she became a shell of herself. That wasn't the Kelsie I had grown up with. When she turned 9 she was thinking maybe her parents would get back together if she acted older and nicer so she started wearing lipgloss, and kept up with all the fashion trends and fads, but I could see that behind her smile and makeup that it was fake, and she was just wanting people to like her. I convinced her to go back to wearing sparkles, rainbows, unicorns all that fun stuff and wear pink and purple shoes all the time, and then she talked to her parents about how she felt and things got better for her. (I do have permission from her to post her story on here)

Greenlee Neville it does get better. My parents divorced when I was 10 and I am 21 now with two girls of my own. I won't lie and tell you that it won't hurt anymore. The pain will always be there however over time you learn to handle it better and you learn to cope. Just strive to do better with your children when you have them. And remember that their divorce is not your fault. I can say from experience that a lot of kids blame themselves when parents split up. If you ever need to talk I will listen. I hope things get better for you. Just keep your head up and stay positive.

Greenlee Neville yea... My parents split when I was 5 too it has effected me like nothing ever could... Like I grew up around boys so I am still bullied to this day because of the things I like and the way I am I go to my mom's on the weekends... At least I try I hate her boyfriend aka my step siblings dad but I love my 2 little step siblings... I have 2 full brothers and a half sister and a half brother... And I mean I love them but like having so many siblings at such a young age also messed me up... But being a 5 year old it was hard like from when I was really little to 5 all I heard was yelling and at the time all I could do was cry... I think that's why im so sensitive when people yell at me because it's been going on since I was really little and ugh... Growing up without my mom.... That was hard af but I got thru it... So.. even tho I might look "happy" but like u said u don't always believe what u see......

Greenlee Neville I know EXACTLY how you feel except I never got to know what it’s like to live with both my parents because they divorced when I was a baby. So I’ve been trading houses and parents all my life.and when you said that you are always broken in the inside I CAN TOTALLY RELATE. Whenever I’m happy with a friend that lasts literally only for when I’m talking to them. Oh and let’s not forget all the other stress in the world of a 7th grader. Homework, sleep, friends and other drama.(that was probably off topic but oh well). With this song and your comment Greenlee I’m truly in tears😢

From a life-long metalhead who only in the past 7-8 years started listening to country music, this song is magical. I love music that elicits a strong feeling in myself, and this is one of them. Amazing.

this song definitely hits me hard. Constantly being in this exact situation drags you down a whole lot. Some mommas and daddies do fall out of love, and takes a terrible toll on you. Some of us do grow up in a love triangle, and oh god does it hurt so bad. thank you RaeLynn for making this song just to help me ease my heart for all the pain it has been thrown into. I love this song, so very much.

I live in the USA and when I was 6 my parents told me that they were splitting. This was the worst day of my life. Every 2 weeks my dad would pick me up and drive a 1-hour drive to his house. Now my dad is happy because he is married to a Canadian lady and now lives in Canada. I only see him once every three months. He might be happy but I'm not. dad if your reading this I want you to know that I miss you dearly. Love, your daughter, Gianna. Edit-My dad told me that he *actually* read this. He said he was sorry and we sat on the ground and cried. I love you Dad.❤
