Never heard such a rendition of Marwa before. Brilliant. Very different particularly in the vilambit phase.

Absolutely great rendition, like all the others that I found on your channel, sir! It is a great service and honour for me, at least, to have the opportunity to listen to such recordings. Thank you! And since the issue of noise reduction arose here, I for one would like to have no such thing as noise reduction applied. These recordings should not be touched: they are what they are. If wished to be restored, noise reduction is not the way, as sooner or later it will touch the quality of the recorded voice. Given the circumstances, it is not something to be desired.

Saurav Bhaumik It would be super to find out who he is paying this kind of respect to. If this is an early 1940 recording then the Khalifa's of the most of the major gharana's except for gwalior and kirana were alive then. Could be Aftabe Moussiqui or Ustad Alah Diya Khan or Ustad Aman Ali Khan (Bhendi Bazaar) or Ustad Bande Hassan; all of them were held in high esteem by the great Ustad and were his seniors.

Saurav Bhaumik - Ustadji always use to say "Sur aur lay se bahoot dar lagta hai", I understood the "Sur", part but didn't understand the "lay" part. While listening to an interview of Ustad Shahid Parvez, he was saying that the masters (referring to Ustad Vilayat Khan) didn't believe in taking tihai's to land the taans on sam - instead they would do "Amad", implying that the taans were conceived with such mastery that tihai's were not needed. Ustad Allahdiya Khan was an absolute master of this art. There is another interview with Pandit Mallikarjun Mansoor where he says that Ustadji use to insist on taan patterns which were designed with Amad in mind;

@@awaismirza8147 Khan Sahib was a critique of Ustad Amir Khan's way of singing vilambit, so surely it is somebody else. Khan Sahib was a fan of the Ustads of Delhi, Bhindi Bazaar Gharana. Maybe one of those.

Curiously the tabla seems to tuned to the Teevra madhyam.. Never heard before ! And also the vilambit Sam is on the mandra Teevra Madhyam.. Is that correct?

I can see the sam on mandra teevra madhyam but not the tabla.

Yes, also the tabla is very clearly tuned to tivra madhyam.. Only sheer genius like UBGAK could pull off such wizardry! Humble pranaams to him

Amir Khansaheb used to sing in his own particular voice whether the raga is Hansadhwani, Darbari or Malkauns or Marwa. He did create a Raga specific mood but up to an extent. I as a listener feel much sameness in his rendering style. Whereas Bade Gulam Ali seems to be very different in his different Raga's rendition. Hamir and aye na balam file on youtube- kind of shrungaar ras, Malkauns khyal gaiki file on youtube- veer ras, Multiple renditions of Kedar- different shade of shrungar rasa, Komal rishabh asavari, Jaunpuri, Gunkali- tremendous karuna ras, Hansadhwani- heavenly peace and shant rasa, marwaa and kafi kanada = out of the world feeling, Yaman benglore 1956 42 minutes file on youtube- unbelievable and unique sadness or say melancholia, Desi Todi- Enchanting freshness of heavy rain. bandish's name is Mora manwaa larze, barsan laagi saari badariya.

there is nothing like kasur patiala gharana... Ustad Baday Ghulam Ali Khan always called himself to be a part of Patiala gharana. Ustad Baday Ghulam Ali Khan learned from Ustad Kalay Khan and Ustad Ashiq Ali Khan, both of whome were students and blood relatives of Great Kernail-Gernail duo of Patiala. It was Ustad Munawwar Ali Khan, who actually coined the term of Qasur Patiala Gharana ...
@r8rdarklord

saifu778 I am sure this is not correct, and you don't have to take my word for it. There is an interview of Khan Sahib himself where he says that he belongs to Kasur Patiala gharana. He also says that he didn't learn his craft from anybody with the exception of his father and uncle. In his inimitable style khan saheb says Baap aur chacha se sikha..aur kissi se nahin.

+shouqie844 There is a good evidence there that Ustad BGAK tied gandha from Ustad AAK (although in the later years of his life). But true, as he said, he belonged to kasur-patiala.

+Saifuddin Abdullah True, but it does not mean much. You cannot teach a genius. He needs , of course, a certain environment and basic training. UBGAK's family - despite their close connection with him - did not produce anything close to him, so whatever UBGAK was, it was his more or less due to his own musical intelligence .

@hemantghayal7709

Sohni is uttarangpradhan whose higher soor play in higher octave. Marwa is not like it. OTherwise they have same soor which are common with Pooriya.
