Some easter eggs / fun facts / theorys I picked up from watching the video, reading comments and myself: I am by no means an expert on norse mythology so please correct me if I'm wrong :) Feel free to comment if you've noticed anything else. Names: Edda: The books Prose Edda and the Poetic Edda are the main sources of norse mythology. Jutulheim: Jutulheim is a play on the word Jötunheim which is the land of the giants in norse mythology. Magne: In norse mythology Magni is one of Thor's sons. He is one of the few survivors of Ragnarök. Vidar: In norse mythology there is a god named Vidar who is actually a son of Odin. He is one of the survivors of Ragnarök aswell. He avenges his father by killing the wolf Fenrir by tearing apart his jaw (just like Magne did in the show) Ran: In norse mythology Ran is a goddess and the personification of the sea. Saxa: In norse mythology there is a giant named Jarnsaxa. According to one narrative she is a daughter of Ran. According to another she was Thor's lover and is the mother of his sons Magni and Modi. Theorys: Magne's family: Magne's father and grandfather might be somehow related to gods. His grandfather put the runes on his tools. His father might have been killed by Vidar. We know he died in an "accident" like Isolde and in the end of the 6th episode vidar tells Magne "You are a scared little boy. Just like your father." Laurits might be related to Loki: In norse mythology Loki is the son of a Giant. We know that Laurits' mother and Vidar have some history so Laurits might actually be the son of Vidar. Laurits is mischievous and unlike Magne and his mother he has dark hair and a slim body. This is further hinted at when he dances with Saxa and Fjor at the spring celebration. Iman is a god aswell: She is nice to Magne and seems to know about Saxa. Also there is no reason to introduce her in the middle of the show. She had basically no screen time and was of no significance to the plot. Because of this I think that she will be more important in the next season.

Can't wait for Season 2, who are they going to reveal next as a God reborn, Laurits as Loki?, Iman as Kali? It would be awesome that in Earths hour of need all Pantheons respond not just the Norse one. This series could be EPIC.
@simonedarionardella3957
4 жыл бұрын
I think Iman is Arab rather than Indian, so I'd be disappointed if they made her Kali. Some Arabs are darker than others, and her haristyling makes me think of Arab fashion more than Indian. I'm not sure about Aicha's ethnicity, but Iman had more screen time and gave me the feeling there's more to her character than appears. I say I'd be disappointed if they turned her into Kali because I like good solid references and links. An Arab character being turned into an Indian goddess would make no sense to me at all. it would feel like a superficial and ignorant match that would make me doubt the writers' awareness of the cultures and references they're using, which I don't enjoy. I'd be totally fine with a Muslim character from Pakistan or India to be turned into a Hindu divinity because the show must obviously bypass monotheistic religions to some extent and Magne is presumably Christian or atheist, at least culturally. So, if in season two they give better signs that Iman's ethnicity goes back to the Indian subcontinent, cool. If I still fell like she's Arab, I want some Arab pre-Islamic divinity on the show. That being said, the show seems to take small steps and to be focused on Norse mythology so far, and the Ragnarok mythology in particular. Perhaps Iman will turn out to be a figure from Norse mythology. That would also be interesting to me. And yes, Laurits is Loki. I have no doubt. I rather wonder who Magne's father was, if anyone at all.

I have a feeling His brother might be Loki. (for you avengers fans Loki and thor are not brothers in Norse mythology) the reason I think it might be the case is that a few things. His sexuality: Loki might not have been gay per se but he was far from straight. He transformed into a female horse and had sex with a male horse then gave birth to a 8 legged horse that became Odin's horse named Sleipner. Being so tricky to figure out: loki always played his own game and Laurits is no different. he was constantly lowkey switching sides throughout the series. His transformation: loki was a form shifter and laurits turned into a female kinda at the end.

Wait wait wait wait wait. The whole theory based on “Magne is Thor’s Son” makes sense because in the T.V show, Magne’s Father dies in the beginning, and then when Magne fights Vitar, he says that he’s just like his father. Is it just me, or does anyone else think that he is actually magni, Thor’s son, not actually Thor. I mean, magni is meant to be the strong one out of the 2 bothers, and he is strong, magni can also use lightning, and the biggest point why I think this, is because this is based after ragnarok, and the 2 sons of Thor ( including magni ) survived ragnarok. And he also looked more like magni when he looked in the mirror at the giants house Also, if that hammer with the runes on it belonged to his grandfather ( or father, I can’t remember ) then that’s got to be Thor. That’s what I think personally, feel free to disagree if you want Oh and I forgot to mention, his name is magne which sounds similar to magni

We just binged on the whole series yesterday and enjoyed it very much. I like seeing shows that are not just about cops, lawyers of doctors for a change. This esoteric stuff is fascinating. I did find that last episode, where the head of Jutul had 2,500 barrels of toxic waste moved out of that cave in less than 24 hours a bit of a stretch. Considering the local police chief may have only called him up that morning to tell him they were going out to inspect the cave. All Magnes had to do was take a water sample from the shit on the floor to prove his point. Or he could have taken a pic of that cave is Isolde's phone. Also hard to imagine that their kids have been in high school since 1899 or that the people in that small town didn't notice that the family of giants never aged. Overall, I liked the series and look forward to Season 2.

Here's my theory on Laurits probably being Loki: I think Magne's mom and Vidar had a one night stand years ago and she then birthed Laurits. It makes sense because there were a few hints throughout the season suggesting Vidar and the mom had a thing for each other years ago, so it's possible. I know Loki certainly isn't Thor's blood-brother, but this is just my take on the situation. Loki is NOT Thor's brother- Loki is Odin's brother and as this is from Norway, I highly doubt Laurits will be portrayed as such- in fact, I think one of the Jutul's is Loki- either the dad because his wife is shown to be old and haggard- Loki's giantess wife is Angarbodr, the 'Crone of the Ironwood' or the son because it was his choice to turn against the Gods originally and then the mum would be Hel the goddess of death and the underworld. If you're going to talk about the actual mythology don't use Marvel as your info source. Also in the mythology, Ragnorok is not actually the end of the world, just the end of this world before the beginning of the new one, representing a cycle not a linear timeline

odin is not lokis brother either lol...they are "step brothers" ..loki brothers are Helblindi and Býleistr.. lokis parents are Fárbauti and Laufey, Loki is the father of Hel, the wolf Fenrir, and the world serpent Jörmungandr. By his wife Sigyn, Loki is the father of Narfi and/or Nari. By the stallion Svaðilfari, Loki is the mother giving birth in the form of a mare to the eight-legged horse Sleipnir..which he gave that eight legged horse to odin as a gift

@@specialopssoldier1 They aren't step-brothers, they're technically 'blood brothers' ie sworn brothers (step brothers is when one of the parents marries the other). But seeing as the level of Norse Mythology here is limited to Marvel I wasn't going to complicate things, especially seeing as you literally only just googled that. I was talking about the Mum being Hel because there's obviously some switching with who takes on the parents role, seeing as in the 60s Fjor and Saxa were adults and Veider and Ran were children at the time

I have really become hooked to netflix through the story episodes of Ragnaok inThe Vikings. the mountains & valleys are tremendous beauty in the films as are those in New Zealand.the stories of Ragnarok were so exciting that when the episodes of The Vikings ran through, I was looking for more. The intrigue of the Jutul family is so determinedand tight, it's frightening and when they get their knives to each other ,even as all character parts are individually strong & unique is a terrifying to leave you aghast. The myth/legends become reality,which is the story I guess, and they must live close to it all the time.There is a lot to be said for the indigenous peoples of every land. exciting stories and acting, Magne never speaks up to defend himself, which annoys me to no end.of course the audience doesn't forget. A great series to continue and definitely must watch.nd the intrigue of 'old families' corporate power and wasting our labours ans health.Brilliant and please more. Thank you All.

Laurits is definitely Loki. Here' my thought on that:(a bit longread) - How he looks. Yes, they made him look suspiciously similar to Loki from the MCU. I thought on that right when watching the trailer. But I thought of that as a reference and nothing more. - Loki is not the brother of Thor, and as far as I remember the series didn't tell us that Laurits and Magne share same blood. I assume Laurits is the adopted one. They are completely different personalities. - Behavior. He does parties, joking and trickery. - At school party he dresses up into mother's clothes. As we know from mythology, he changed his sex and even gave birth to other beings. - His dance. He was dancing in the unison with Saxa and her brother regarding the fact it's their first dance and party together. And from mythology we know that Loki was not actually a norse god, but the frost giant, who spent a lot of time with asgardian gods. And in comparison to what Magne did on the party at Jotul's home - they are completely different . - How Jotul's dog reacts to him. When the dog sees Magne at first time - it barked at him with aggression, while in company of Laurits the dog was like chilling with the old friend. - The part when he makes himself a blonde hair and dresses up as director of the school and makes speech. As we know, Loki liked a lot to change how he looks. - His speech at the end. Through the entire series he behave as a good friend of Jotul family, right until the speech where he decided to make a full set of irony regarding ecology and director's relation with students. He trolled Jotuls there in the front of entire school. So I assume Laurits is Loki but he doesn't know that yet. He does all the things he would do as a god, but for now he didn't unlock his powers yet. And I don't really know what happens in real mythology with dead gods, but as we have a ref to MCU Loki, authors might have take concept of MCU Ragnarok when all the gods are not actually killed, but reborn after sometime to rebuild Asgard and the cycle continues. I think we will see other gods and norse mythology creatures in the future if only authors decide to continue this show. I wish they will.

My take on this is that, Magne is Thor's son, hence the name. However, Laurits is tricky because I doubt he's Modi considering he's nothing like Magne. Now, when it comes to Magne's powers, I believe that as of now he can't control them, His powers seem to be strengthened by a lot when he's near the hammer, so maybe the hammer helps him control his powers for now until the next season. Now as for the giants or the "jutuls" I believe their family barely survived the start of ragnarok which is why they moved to the mansion called Jutulheim, where they have been gaining back strength, until Magne came a long and well, lets just say they aren't the "strongest" beings anymore, I noticed during the scene where Magne was arm wrestling Ran, when Magne started to get angry and was overpowering her for just a split second, she had a fearful expression, what do you guys think about this?

The series take place in a nice town called Odda located in Hardanger. This show actually have elements of Odda's story, the Jutul company is a reference to the old factory that was in the town. The town was covered in a thick gray smoke and every house was gray, and as you can imagine. The factory caused a lot of illnesses due to at the time there wasn't the health regulation there is today. The show also shows element of the "new generation" of the deities. The gods and goddesses had children, Thor had a son named Magne, he also had two other children Modi and a daughter who I sadly have forgotten the name to. If you have read the story about Ragnarok, you see this plays off what could happend after the battle, where the handful gods and two humans survived the war. As for Loki as that statement bugged me quite a bit, he is Odin's blood brother, which would make him Thor's blood uncle. My theory for the next season is that the volve will awaken the rest of the gods and goddesses to fight back these jotuns
