This past week I was fortunate enough to travel to Nashville with the Hawkeye Marching Band for the Music City Bowl game on December 31st. As part of the trip I was able to spend a few hours in Nashville to see the unique railroad action that the city has to offer. My day started at Riverfront Station to see the last two Music City Star commuter trains departing downtown. The first train I was was a rare five car set that was being tested for New Years Eve service. After seeing the final train depart, I headed over to the "yard" of the Nashville Western, a small industrial line owned by RJ Corman. While the line now uses borrowed power from the N&E, the line's vintage B23-7's of Conrail and Santa Fe heritage are still on property. After shooting some pics of these endangered units, I headed over to the old Union Station and got a shot of a CSX intermodal train. After lunch, I rode out to the suburb of Donelson and waited around for NE03, the daily Nashville & Eastern road freight from Lebanon to Nashville and return. After waiting around for a while, it showed up with a pair of vintage B40-8's. These locomotives are all but gone from class one railroads so they were a treat to see. After dropping the train in Nashville and wyeing the power, the train headed back towards Lebanon, thus concluding my adventures in Nashville.
HUGE thanks and shoutout to @rail.tennessee for all the info about the local railfanning scene. Go check out his channel! www.youtube.com/@rail.tennessee
