On our annual road trip my brother and I headed east to Cheyenne, WY, with plans to drop down into Colorado and return home over US 50 through Colorado, Utah, Nevada and California. Unfortunately, we were pretty much shut out by the weather that dumped a lot of snow on our intended route. We returned home by retracing our route on I80.
I was still able to capture some video on Saturday, May 18, on Sherman Hill and at the Cheyenne Depot. Pulling off US 287 at Hermosa just as an eastbound manifest came into view, I shot the train with a fair amount of wind noise. My attempts to edit the sound were somewhat successful.
We headed back to Cheyenne via Hermosa Road, a rutted and bumpy dirt track, and eventually found a much smoother I80. Stopping at the UP depot, we found the freight waiting for a new crew and caught it as it left town with three locomotives on the point and a mid-train helper.
