I don't know Chris, just going by my farm experience with 20 years of 10 wheelers before I bought a semi, there is one heck of an improvement between 1 drive axel versus both and then full lockers. You might be very pleasantly surprised when you get that rear pulling too. Was always a huge difference to me in wet falls or snowy winters.

Hello. We do not often work on earthworks, usually they are different types of work, where we only help ourselves with an excavator. Worked on a lot of movie locations. Nearly all the trucks had to be on track mats or they would plough up the grass and get stuck but I could just drive through no problem. I let them believe it was my great skill but in reality it was because I had steering tyres all around. My truck was built as a high speed, high cornering speed fire tender for airport use. The almost flat profile meant it did not dig in or get a grip on the grass. So as long as I was gentle it just stayed clean and floated across the top. As you say having no mud stuck in there makes all the difference.

Looks like sticking it out paid off. Now, instead of being behind you are pretty much on track to get done with the pond. I have a question about the dirt with the gravel, it sounds like you hit a vein of what I would call river gravel. A red clay mixed with gravel of various sizes. It gets hard as a rock when it is dry but it can as bad as plain red clay when it gets wet and hasn't been packed. Stay safe.
