According to Wikipedia it's true that Qantas has neither lost a jet airliner nor had any jet fatalities, but it had 8 fatal accidents and an aircraft shot down between 1927 and 1945, with the loss of 63 people. Half of these accidents and the shoot-down occurred during World War II, when the Qantas aircraft were operating on behalf of Allied military forces. Post-war, it lost another four aircraft with a total of 21 people killed. The last fatal accidents suffered by Qantas were in 1951, with three fatal crashes in 5 months. Qantas' safety record in the jet airliner era was cited as a reason for it being named as the world's safest airline in 2014 and 2015.

@@Drcrazy93 thank you, I was hoping someone would mention the gamblers fallacy. For anyone else reading, the gamblers fallacy applies in both directions i.e. Just because something has a history of happening doesn't mean it will continue to happen, and, just because something hasn't happened doesn't mean it is "due" to happen

Tom Cruise must have also done previous research since he seemed to know Qantas only flies to LA via Melbourne.

He's literally flown Qantas LA to Melbourne and back again. He's visited Melbourne Australia many times especially when he was hitched to Kidman. Hoffman's also flown here on Qantas. Cruise's buddy John Travolta is literally a licensed Qantas pilot who owns the classic vintage Qantas 707 aircraft. Travolta is literally a Qantas history buff himself. Definitely Tom's been on his personal Qantas jet.

Then there would be no movie. And Charlie would lost his car shop, since he was only able to pay his debits due to Raymond's earnings in the cassino.

And afterwards they travel by car, which is statistically more dangerous than flying. Ray can cite airline accidents, but doesn’t understand the context. He thinks that the flying is dangerous due to the number of deaths in a crash rather than the frequency of crashes per year. Pretty much every day in every major city, there’s at least one car crash. If planes crashed as often as cars, then no one in their right mind would ever fly.

It’s kinda genius that Rainman said 135 people died on Delta 191. Technically 137 people died, but two people died a month later from their injuries. Raymond only counts who died on impact. Genius level writing.
