Shit I don't even think The King knew the reason for what was happening until it was too late. Not to absolve the Scavengers of all grief since they can be real bastards sometimes, but still. Imagine one of your people winds up spearing a kid and one- ONE PERSON cuts a bloody swathe through your entire society in a matter of a few days and nights, and you never realize why the entire time.

Because while the slugcats are smart for animals, comparatively to us they are about cavemen level. I would totally believe that some cavemen at some point tried to kill all of a species after killing its babies, though probably was less successful without infinite explosives. Even then, Arti learns to grow past their tunnel vision rage but helping FP and especially after the Scav King is dead.

I really love how the atmo sounds like an alarm. Imagine if it's actually Five Pebbles, who is eating holographic popcorn as he watches boomcat through an Overseer, sounding the alarm using his surviving broadcast sirens to inform Artificer "stupid pest ahead".

I struggle to understand what Artificer might be feeling in this moment. She could be maniacally cackling as she ravages everything and everyone. She could be in a state of absolute panic, filled with adrenaline and the need to survive. She could be on the verge of breaking down, tears running down her face. Or she could be feeling nothing.

I agree. That's what each of these threats and tones represent. The will to survive is 2nd to her bloodlust and need to get even...her whole journey with is fueled by the sheer incessant need to lash out at that which causes her emotional pain to the point that she (an animal by all means) feels a strong emotion for revenge. This is so much so the case that not 1 but 2 "Gods" warn her of her path and what awaits at the end if she goes through with it, acknowledging that she is completely karmic imbalanced because of that need to get even. And when she finally does...she has attained nothing but a false sense of closure, and thus an *eye for an eye, and then the whole world goes blind* becomes a reality. And as an extra bonus...you end up realizing that no one wins, and that King was just an unaware fool that became a target of circumstances out of his control. *Making King just as much of a victim as Arti is*

There is A LOT of code scavengers have that is related to their fear of things. It actually kind of makes sense, once you think about it. There are giant, like 8 foot big birds with HARPOONS. By the way, there’s a crocodile that can propel itself into air with god knows what biological mechanism.

Artificer’s campaign really makes you feel powerful. So much so that stepping into metropolis, the threat music stops feeling like a warning for nearby danger, rather a warning to the scavs about the explosive unstoppable lunatic poised to demolish their entire populace. I’ve only felt scared playing as artificer a few times. Once being stuck in the east corner of metropolis at night with insufficient food to hibernate, when 2 elite scavs drop down from offscreen above. The other time being first entering the 12th council pillar the house of braids (what a silly name lmao) and being like: A shaded region?! in metropolis?? D:

Im not done with the playthrough yet, but my only time being scared playing artificer is when i met the miros vulture for the first time while leaving shaded. Its going to be so wierd playing another character after finishing this overpowered lunatic of a slugcat

this is actually a really cool visual representation of arti's story too. i am OBSESSED with the arps in these tracks. they perfectly capture the vibe of a grief stricken parent on a violent mission for vengeance rain worlds music always suits the emotions of the environment and situation so well

Just noticed, if you listen REALLY closely during the breaks (4:18, for reference) you can hear the only "wonky" instrument, giving us a clearer feeling on Artificer's emotion. She is dead set to get revenge for her children, but whatever rational things left in her head are banging the door for Arti to stop. Its drowned out, just like any chance for her redemption. Another thing, if you also listen quite closely to the arps, you can hear a kindof, "aftertone" that sounds like a worried mother singing to scared children. Im either hallucinating, or this is what Artificer sung to her children when they rested.

Story telling, emotional, what-have-you, is one hell of a thing through music. I like this interpretation, I always enjoy hearing other people's thoughts on it. It really does feel so different to the other threat themes. I have a hard time of explaining what I think, but I'll do my best: The whole... rhythm? of this theme, very much captures that "You *are* the threat, here." to me. The others all have some kind of high energy, or chaotic, or funky, or downright scary at times. But this? This just maintains that constant flow. It's directed, it's ordered. But instead of capturing that, say, "doom slayer" vibe, where that was loud, angry, and meant to make you feel like THE Motherfucker, this feels... foreboding, to me. Artificer is on a warpath "Dead set to get revenge for her children" and it *feels* like it. It is angry, in its own way. It's sad. That feeling of a deep regret, a deep *rage* at how things turned out - knowing that things will never, can never, be the same again... And being too far gone to change it. "We are a pair who forfeited everything." It's so, so good to end Artificer's playthrough on. It perfectly captures *who* Artificer is, what they have done, what they *will* do, what they feel, and what their history is. (I had to make so many edits because KZitem does not want me to make words bold. :(

@@jadewedge6082 A better word you may be looking for when describing this is "Vendetta". As much as she did absolutely annihalate EVERYTHING in her path, unstoppably, she did it for a reason. Her undying, painful, screaming revenge. Every thump of the shakers, every line of the sub, I feel like it can be seen in two ways; either as a mother, shaking and scared, but proceeds, or a so called "murderer" wanting nothing but justice for her children. Thank you for making this verdict however, it's nice to see your opinion, aswell.

The shaker and breaks really do give this a more militaristic feel to it than most of the game's soundtracks have. You have fear, curiosity, melancholy, loneliness, and immersion in the unknown portrayed in other parts of the game, which you can generally see as what your slugcat is currently feeling. This is one of, if the only, track that has a militaristic feeling to it, not to mention the sadness and rage sold through this. It is militaristic, it is sad, and with the breaks you can feel her rage. In a sense, this really does sell the idea that you are the predator. There is no fear in any of this. There's no wobbly instruments that indicate that Artificer is at all afraid of the scavengers. There is no wawa to indicate that Artificer at all feels afraid of what she's facing down. She's so struck with grief, sadness, and rage that she doesn't care about her own survival. Therefore, you don't rely get a sense of "I am in danger.", you get a sense of "Target spotted, time to destroy that bitch". If anything, the Scavengers are more afraid of you than you may ultimately end up being of them during your time playing Artificer. The militaristic sense to the song is thus Artificer being smart enough to recognize that the scavengers are organized and more than likely will do everything in their power to kill her and drive her away through countless deaths. Yet she doesn't care. All she cares about is revenge. She will die hundreds, if not thousands of times, solely out of grief-driven revenge. Eternally determined to bring unending violence and suffering on the Scavengers for what they did. But considering what they did to her, I don't blame her. If someone killed my children without bothering to come to an understanding first about what they did, I too would like to return the favor. However, violence brings violence. Neither side is in the right. Both are victims. Grief can drive people to do many a great act, or to commit atrocities that terrify any who hear of them. Out of grief, she toppled a civilization, and hunted its survivors, possibly for the rest of her eternal existence. Therefore, it is likely that somewhere out there, if she hasn't come to terms with her grief and finally let go of the slugpups she lost, even during Saint's time she would likely still be out there, an eternal bringer of violence that refuses to let even reincarnation allow her revenge to finally be sated.

Artificer is a lunatic. An enjoyable lunatic, but a lunatic nonetheless. I was unsettled throughout her entire campaign as I played it. I didn't like what I was doing. But I knew _she_ did. So my hand was somewhat forced. 10/10 campaign.

I don't think she enjoys it either. Nobody truly enjoys revenge. In the end, it'll never bring her pups back, and she'll have slaughtered 40% (rough estimate) of a species for seemingly no reason. She's angry, that's for certain, but she's also most likely depressed and grieving. But I doubt she actually enjoyed any of the killing. Then again, what do I know. I'm just a random person on the internet at 2 am so take this with a grain of salt.

She's killed so many, so she just. keeps killing, because otherwise she has to face the void in her heart that formed the moment she woke up the cycle after and realized she had doomed herself to never see them again. So she tries to fill it with blood, because she doesn't see any other paths to take. And even if she tried, the rage runs too deep.

If you are on PC, a good mod I would recommend is -"Vulture Masks Deflect Spears"- (or something to that effect) It makes thematic sense, helps you survive getting shot if it is to your head, and it is balanced in that elite scavengers also get this benefit. Edit: Just checked, the best version would be "Shiny Shield Mask"

I know it's been 3 months, and I'm not here to pressure you into giving it another go if you don't want, but many players do not know that holding down while bomb-jumping does a move that stuns enemies and reflects projectiles within a close range. It has been very effective and carried me to Metropolis.

Artificer is such an interesting slug. We know so much about them in terms of character yet also so little. We don't even know if the artificer enjoys this. Does the flame of revenge burn like a wildfire? Or is revenge merly a duty to be carried out, with the anger of revenge having dried up long ago. Is the killing of scavengers, once bloody and rich, become something as monotonous and present as the cycle itself? It's not like the artificer can go back, even if they became a pacifist their reputation with the scavengers means they'll always be hunted by hit squads, mercenaries and avengers. The artificer has two very contrasting paths. To try their best to let go of their anger and ascend or to relight the fire of hate and completely destroy part of scavenger society. The artificer did undoubtedly accomplish their goal as seen by later campaigns. They threw scavengers out of their haven from the rain, destroyed their metropolis the fact they lost access to valuable resources from Five Pebbles as well as artificers killing spree meant they lost the ability to train and supply elite scavengers.

After reaching the 'end' of Arti's campaign, I've found that I've become addicted to her way of life and how unhinged she is. I remember when I fought the Cheiften... I remember mauling their neck and laughing maniacally as the cutscene showed the bloodshed that followed, the remaining scavengers fleeing in terror to no avail as Arti hunted them down and killed them one by one. I was so mesmerized that I continued to tear through everything after I had reached the end, I had become, throughout the playthrough, like her. And I loved it. Anyway, all of that aside, this soundtrack really gives me the bliss of that, wonderful, fun campaign and I will never forget it.

I love this track a lot, very suiting and atmospheric for Artificers journey. On an unrelated note, a lot of the components for the track remind me of some of the tracks from Half Life: Opposing Force.
