lyrics are written from the standpoint of a "slave in Egyptian times",. They relate the story of the Wizard, an astronomer who becomes "obsessed with the idea of flying" and enslaves a vast army of people to build him a tower from which he can take off and fly ] The people hope for the day when their misery comes to an end, building the tower in harsh conditions ("In the heat and rain, with whips and chains; / to see him fly, so many died"). In the end, the wizard climbs to the top of the tower but, instead of flying, falls down and dies: "no sound as he falls instead of rising. / Time standing still, then there's blood on the sand". The next song, "A Light in the Black", continues the story of the people who have lost all purpose after the Wizard's death "until they see the Light in the Dark",

This song is just pure gold, one of the greatest rock songs of all time. The music is beautiful, the lyrics are amazing and deep, Richie Blackmore's guitar solo is nerve-shattering, and Ronnie James Dio's godly vocals just grab your soul and take it to another place. One of Rainbow's best songs, if not their best.

Stargazer Rainbow Produced by Martin Birch Album: The Very Best of Rainbow [Verse One: Rainbow] High noon, oh I'd sell my soul for water Nine years worth of breakin' my back There's no sun in the shadow of the wizard See how he glides, why he's lighter than air? Oh, I see his face [Hook: Rainbow] Where is your star? Is it far, is it far, is it far? When do we leave? I believe, yes, I believe [Chorus: Rainbow] In the heat and the reign With whips and chains To see (2c) him fly So many died We build a tower of stone With our flesh and bone Just to see him fly But don't know why Now where do we go? [Verse Two: Rainbow] Hot wind, moving fast across the desert We feel that our time has arrived The world spins, while we put his dream together A tower of stone to take him straight to the sky Oh, I see his face [Hook: Rainbow] Where is your star? Is it far, is it far, is it far? When do we leave? Hey, I believe, I believe [Chorus: Rainbow] In the heat and the rain With whips and chains Just to see him fly Too many died We build a tower of stone With our flesh and bone To see him fly But we don't know why Ooh, now where do we go [Verse Three: Rainbow] All eyes see the figure of the wizard As he climbs to the top of the world No sound, as he falls instead of rising Time standing still, then there's blood on the sand Oh, I see his face [Hook: Rainbow] Where was your star? Was it far, was it far? When did we leave? We believed, we believed, we believed [Chorus: Rainbow] In heat and rain With the whips and chains To see him fly So many died We built a tower of stone With our flesh and bone To see him fly But why In all the rain With all the chains Did so many die Just to see him fly Look at my flesh and bone Now, look, look, look, look Look at his tower of stone I see a rainbow rising Look there, on the horizon And I'm coming home, I'm coming home, I'm coming home Time is standing still He gave back my will Ooh ooh ooh ooh Going home I'm going home My eyes are bleeding And my heart is leaving here Wish I'd known Wish I'm home Ooh [Outro: Rainbow] Take me back He gave me back my will Ooh ooh ooh ooh Going home I'm going home My eyes are bleeding And my heart is leaving here Wish I'd known Wish I'm home Ooh Ooh Take me back, take me back Back to my home ooh, ooh, ooh Composition by: Ronnie James Dio, Ritchie Blackmore, Rainer Pietsch Label: Polydor Release Date: May 17, 1976 Conductor - Rainer Peitsch Featuring - Munich Philharmonic Orchestra

Greatest song about fatalities on work ever. It's so sad, if you actually break down the words. But why In all the rain With all the chains Did so many die Just to see him fly Look at my flesh and bone Now, look, look, look, look, Look at his tower of stone I see a rainbow rising Look there, on the horizon And I'm coming home, I'm coming home, I'm coming home.

When Keyboards and synthesizers were used so tastefully... They were part of the Band not just to make a thunder sound or a... nm In anycase, this is not about the Tower of Babble, which they still use to divide us to this day. I feel this song is based on what DIO taught me through so many years. Follow your Dreams, anything is possible, just always hold onto your Dreams and you can make them come true. Where as this song is about society , whether enslaved or blindly following someone else. They build their Dream on the backs of the bruised and empty promises to the point that it's not until the Wizard Dies, that they wish they had followed their own dreams. That is politics these days, religious extremists, corporations (fired before you retired). So many ways to look at it. But originally to me... it was a man who believed in this Wizards Dream to touch the Heavens and Fly. Then Everyone would be able to climb the Tower and touch the sky. Year after year season after season working in the worst conditions believing in someone else's Dream... Believing and sacrificing everything for this one goal... And this being 2000 B.C. or 4000 B.C. or? I'm sure many a person believed that you could build a tower and reach the Heavens.. When I was in High school in the 80s and we were taught of the Pyramids and such. People enslaved, believers, captured armies etc. Building these towers of Stone ... To Touch the clouds, The Heavens, The Face of God..... Or even The Flight of Icarus.... DIO was great at warning us of following false idols. DIO wanted us to follow our own Dreams... And if your going to follow someone else , beware.... So many people are out their to steal your Dreams, to Entice you into following them, as Sirens have done since Time Memorial.. signing to the sailor to crash their ships upon the Rocky shore... I have to go now, just a few more stones in the spire. I think we are almost there... You should all come join us. You have to meet this guy err umm Wizard.. He is Amazing , just come meet him, he will talk you into joining us , He will LET YOU help us build the Tower, then we shall all fly.. I better get off the Phone. WE just have a little higher to go! \m/

yes is FINALLY in the hall of fame, or is going to be very soon, so that's giving you another reference to the things that should get recognition not getting it, heck even now yes is mainly remembered for roundabout and owner of a lonely heart (i dont even like the latter anywhere near their other songs and they have to play it to be recognized) they've been around since like the late 60's if i remember correctly and still around, and of course like just about every good artist and song nowadays it gets burried under a pile of crap, the songs that a radio station purchased and wont change ever, and songs by media celebrities that aren't even that good.

@@rambleon1182 im a mere 39 in comparison but was brought up with all rock as my dad played bass and lead guitar in both his bands He also wrote all music and lyrics so all my memories of him being a kid was his band mates jamming and recording in our house I loved it
