Guys Dio really wasn't Underated, he was loved, adorred and praised throughout his whole carrer, his talent and carisma was obivious to anyone with eyes, he never was an under dog, he always was a god of metal, a rock star, and a inspiration to all those with taste, and his legacy is and forever will be untouchable.

Don't stress over it is my advice. KZitem is awash with people who don't understand the meaning of the word underrated. I've even seen Eddie Van Halen described as underrated. @@larsnilsson8949 No i disagree. For example BLACK SABBATH is in the HALL OF FAME, Ronnie James Dio is not, hence underrated. Granted the Rock HOF is a joke but still... Sure he had a great career & lots of success but he can still be considered underrated. UNDER-rated & poorly-rated are NOT the same. Mario Lemieux is widely regarded as the 2nd greatest hockey player of all time. I think he was the best so id technically consider him underrated. Another person may not consider him a top 3 player, therefore hed be overrated to that person.... Either way, great singer, great career, great music, and a great deal of praise. I'm thankful i saw him 3 times Underrated basically means worthy of more praise etc. I think he was underrated.

@@integrity101 Ok, I can accept your argument and partly I agree with you, as for ROHOF, that´s a joke. Just look who´s there and who isn´t! If Ronnie James Dio and Rainbow don´t belong. Who does? When I´m talking about "underrated", I am not referring to some organization like ROHOF or any other similar, but to the people who´s listening to this kind of music or perhaps not listening. My point is that you don´t have to be part of that organization for being an artist, respected and having a great career, like Ronnie James Dio. Don´t think that Ronnie James Dio was underrated among the vast mass of heavy metal fans all over the world.

Dio at his best. I don’t think he ever topped the vocals he did with Rainbow, not with Black Sabbath or Dio. Blackmore just seemed to write the right music to capitalize on Dio’s pipes. Stargazer is Blackmore's masterpiece, he came up with the music as he did for all of Rising, Dio left because Blackmore wanted more commercial music, Blackmore was carrying the costs of the band and was losing quite a bit of money which he needed record sales to get any return and he wanted Dio to accommodate this lyrically, according to people around the band Dio was also getting quite a large ego and it wasn't all down to Blackmore when he left.

Andrea Simonetto I very much agree, when will most musicians see the bigger picture, that the overall sound/connections are mostly what matters, oh but if most musicians can just pretend they don't know something, then maybe they can sit back like the rest of us (non-musicians) [truth be told I do get into poetry quite heavily which might explain the lyrical draw to this] & just enjoy things for what they are. Set aside egos, and just do what people did in the 70's---just go with the flow, not against it.
@rexnewborn3379

I sorta doubt that story. Rainbow was Blackmore's band and he wasn't noted for putting up with much that he didn't like. If he had hated it, he could have and probably would have cut it. Since he was the primary composer for the band, it is probably just as likely that it was his idea. Blackmore didn't kiss a lot of ass or take a lot of shit off people, so he wasn't the most loved guy around. There are all kinds of stories from people that he pissed off, but there are usually two sides to those stories. A number of those stories were from prima donna singers he wouldn't allow to take over his bands. Deep Purple was also Richie and Jon Lord. Everyone else was replaceable. In just about every rock band, there are one or two guys who define the band. Other's come and go, or hang around for the duration, but they don't define the sound. Lennon and McCartney could have replaced George and Ringo and the Beatles music would have changed very little. Page and Plant could have replaced anyone else in Zeplin without major alteration, in fact Plant could probably have been replaced with someone like Dio; but take Page out and Zeplin is no longer Zeplin; because Page did virtually all the composing. Take Townsend out of The Who, there is no Who left for the same reason. CCR broke up because Fogerty was the lead singer, lead guitarist, and wrote all the songs; and other band members wanted an equal share of the money. Now it is barely possible to tell what is a CCR, or a Fogerty without looking at the labels. Rainbow was Blackmore's band. Everyone else was hired help.

"Page and Plant could have replaced anyone else in Zeplin without major alteration, in fact Plant could probably have been replaced with someone like Dio; but take Page out and Zepplin is no longer Zeplin; because Page did virtually all the composing" I stopped taking you seriously after this line, every member of LZ was unique in it's own way especially JPJ and he was also the main reason Led Zeppelin stayed together most of those years. Also if you still want proof that each LZ member can't be built without any of the first lineup it's that they disbanded when bonham died. Songs in which each of the members shine When the Levee Breaks :Bonham's Drum Achilles Last Stand : JPJ on Bass Kashmir: Page's Guitar and their most famous song, Whole Lotta Love: Plant's orgasms.

Ritchie did put a decent band on the road... Saw them 4 days ago. But no matter how good band it is (Ronnie Romero sings awesome for example) it is all shaded by Ritchie and, all the (bad) sound is set so that Blackmore's guitar dominates... Which would not be bad 30 years ago, I assume, but now that he forgot to play even regular tunes, not to mention solos, it's pretty not enjoyable. Rather bothering. Also when you add the fact that they are playing less Rainbow songs under the name of Rainbow. With all due respect to the greatness of Ritchie Blackmore who gave us loads of the masterpieces of incomparable quality, he should pay respect to his guitar and leave it to rest now. His legacy is enormous and should remain as such... With these concerts he'll just get a bad closure.

I always saw neon pulsing lights in my head with that intro. First time I heard it was at a party in Ti NY in January 1977, afternoon keg party. I was sharing a pipe of lung expanding Columbian Red and I remember staring at the record on this Sansui Turntable. Guy had sound throught the whole house BOSE speakers wow. Crystal clear. I would kill to have a band backing me up singing this song. I didnt have the range then but I do now at 63 years old.

Go back and listen to Blackmore's solo. Both Carey and Blackmore make the song. It wasn't a fucking competition. I can't stand the stupidity of so many Blackmore-hating lemmings.

I don't think Dio is underestimated .. here in my country,Greece we worship him like the rock God he is...

lol no we dont sadly. He is one of the very few musicians in metal the greeks accept as a whole but we kinda forgot him, only those who saw him on stage will remember forever.

I just bought the tribute album to Ronnie James Dio. I have to say it is totally awesome. Thanks to all bands that identified that Dio contributed greatly to the rock and roll genre. He really did put you into another world.

To be honest I'm kinda tired of the fat guitar sound. I sometimes want to hear actual guitar playing now and then and not just riff- riff- riff, wah- wah- wah.. Metallica is still a great band when they settle down like in Death Magnetic, but I can do without another St Anger.

Nobody is comparing anything. Metallica and the others did a tribute as a sign of respect. Nothing more.

I'm a long time Metallica fan and claim that Metallica is one of the best bands on earth as far as covering other bands songs. However I also claim that nothing can compare with originals, especially considering the songs of the 70s...
