I am a former manager at one of these location back in the hey day. Animals living in a restaurant is the NOT cleanest or safest for people or the animals. I enjoyed my time there. It was a fun and crazy place to work. I still have my pins from different locations and ball caps.

Honestly devastated to learn that the rainforest cafe I grew up with wasn't the true PEAK of restraunting experiences that I always imagined it to be. What I wouldn't give to visit a pre-2000 restaurant though I would not be born yet. Either way, incredible video. Was so saddened when the location in my local mall became a sushi restaurant of all things.

My wife, my daughter (15 at the time), and I went to Niagara Falls, Canada for four days...we saw the Falls, went on the boats, went behind the Falls, saw gardens, went to the tower, saw fireworks, lights, shops, and everything!!! ..on the last day, my daughter saw the Rainforest Cafe among all the other tourist traps there...she begged to go, as she had heard about it...so, we went...it was OK....after we returned home, I asked her what she liked most about our trip...she said......The Rainforest Cafe....really?????

From someone who previously worked at Rainforest Café: I worked at a branch in the northeast. We employees had to buy our own uniforms-they took it out of our first 4 paychecks. We only received a discount on the "food" (hot dog, pizza or soda) only after working a few hours of a shift. I remember getting a 75 cent tip for hosting the birthday party for a family member of the owners and getting a $20 tip from a waitress who purchased the basic party for a small group of toddlers. Your report is spot on!

From a former VP of architecture and construction at Rainforest: Construction costs were even higher than we are being reported. More like 10 million per mall unit and 15-35 million for icon units. That’s probably why the numbers in 2000 fell so sharply.

From Billy Ellis, former Director at Rainforest Café: The production values of the video were excellent. Rainforest Café, “a wild place to shop and eat”, was the best company by far that I worked with in my career.

Very interesting! From a former director at Rainforest Cafe: Beanie Babies were another factor in the same store sales decline. As a Ty distributer, Rainforest stores could easily sell $50,000+ a day when the new ones came out. Lines into the malls would start forming at 3:00 am. When the craze was over, they had those sales to go up against.

As a current employee at the rainforest cafe I can confidently say the rainforest cafe isn’t going anywhere, and by the way they never stopped using sparklers on the volcano dessert but some locations have carpet so they can’t use sparklers, the ones that have concrete floors such as the one I work at has been using real sparklers since they opened in 1999, COVID actually did not affect us in the way most people would think, the location I work for made over 120k more in profit than it’s previous year of 2019, this year we have been exceeding the expected sales amount every single month, also most locations still have fish in the tanks, the birds were taken away in the early 2000’s it was very unsanitary having live animals flying around a restaurant where people eat most people did not like that. The company recently opened up 3 new international locations, but just like any other business they have locations that do great and some that don’t manage to make a profit so they have to close down that doesn’t mean it’s a failing business.
