The tree of knowledge is also called the tree of everlasting life, the source of original sin. I think Ridley Scott explained once that in his world the Engineers became immortal using genetic technology, but could not reproduce anymore, so they slowly died out. I think that the original people on the planet also tried with genetic experiments to gain immortality but they actually somehow regressed, into the water-creatures and the northern creatures, we saw in season 1. The tooth made that engieerlike survivor in the cave regress in front of us very quickly. Just my theory, I am afraid that those who ate from the fruit will also change genetically to something worse.

Great episode. I theorized last season that Otho was commanded to fruitful so he'd be punished so Mother could use him to transfused blood while pregnant. The voice may not have known that Mother would crash the Ark, but luckily he survived. I also think Grandmother is tricking Mother so she can have human feelings for once. And this may lead to relationship between her and Father. Mother is going to be more like the Trust, willing to sacrifice a human for the sake of all humans. She may even decide to reactivate the Trust to help her.

I agree that grandmother is using mother. Thought it was interesting that one of the children said, "androids lie." I think the veil is some sort of inhibitor that will severely weaken mother. My theory is this show is in the past, like a past cycle of humanity, which was always a battle between rational atheists or technocrats and faithful believers of Sol. So i think as a Bene Gesserit kind of tactic, they did not try to encourage atheism, but rather also use religion to instill precautionary imagery that would endure over ages, such as adam and eve, the tree of knowledge, snakes being the devil, so if we go back to keppler we would be aware of the danger. So kind of like fight religion with religion, instead of with rationality.

Yes, you got an awsome point there but it goes further : Grand mother told Mother that there used to be 2 factions : Beleivers and technocrates : Since the cards (made by technocrates) can destroy or prevent the raise of sol ( believers) so that the Romulus teeth can kill or devolve Technocrates -> For me we are seeing a cycle, after the war ended in Kepler, the two factions move back to earth . Then the backup plan was to get back to Kepler. So the new technocrates ( Campion sturges & atheist) send a necromancer with emotions (different from GM who has no feelings) to conquer the planet AND the new believers ( mithraic) create a religion and send artefacts (like the tooth) to do the same. So the two sides are fighting "SOL" but also each other. For me Marcus felt the same as the first BELIEVERS , thinking that SOL was a god and soon realised that they need to fight him in order to take on the planet. So everytime humans will comeback to Kepler 21 since its the best solution ( human destroy each other like Sturges said to mother ) and SOL will try everytime to kill them in order to stay alive in his planet.

I also thought about the Bene Gesserit!, and this idea of making up a religion to innoculate certain, important messages. It's a more effective way of storytelling, after all, and in stories (from the dawn of humanity onward) there were always nuggets of information to be passed down A similar idea also appears in Asimov's Foundation, where science becomes a sort of mystical religion (I'm only on the second volume tho and don't know that much, but that's what I gathered from the 1st one) The way it's showcased in this series I find quite thought-provoking...

I wanted to point a few things. When Grandmother says she is a 'Shepherd', you question if this makes humans 'sheep'; Mother is clearly the 'wolf' so this makes sense but notice she called herself a 'Shepherd', not a Steward nor a Servent. This choice of words was deliberate and Is this a clue that she may be not have good intentions toward Mother? A Steward is the leader with an overarching mission directive or cause, focusing on the whole, not the individual. The Servent leader exists to serve its people, not a greater mission and I personally feel, is the best kind of leadership as it is endowed with enriching the full potential and quality of the people it serves. A Shepherd is the protector, Guardian, defender which seems the most limited and ambiguous but I thought it interesting to explore the purposeful use of this one leader type chosen from a group of three alternatives. Regarding Tempest, I've noticed all the reviewers (man) Gloss over her change of mind as perplexing when, as a Mother, it made sense to me. As a mother, I can understand Tempests reaction to seeing her baby happily suckling and bonded with the sea creature. While she was motivated by the initial shock of having her newborn ripped from her arms and stolen from a scary creature, she has had time to think and when confronted with seeing the creature, no liger a threat but as a caring mother, feeding and bonding with this baby - I can fully understand her quanndry. This shift in perception allows her to question motherhood in a way that was not possible when she felt her infants life at stake. Now, she has a DIFFERENT choice to make as the baby is clearly being lovingly cared for and this brings Tempests mind back to the one thing which made her question her ability to be it's Mother in that the baby is a product and constant reminder of her traumatic rapes.

The way Grandmother was surprised by Father not wearing a veil and the way she is offering hers to Mother, also makes me think she might be deceiving them and that veil might have another purpose and she can't remove it herself. I think there is more to Number 7's connection and actions towards Campion.

In the episode preview, at the end, there's someone trapped in some kind of caul-like material. Maybe it's Mother, being kept out of the way so that Grandmother and Father (under GM's influence or reprogramming) can enact whatever GM's agenda is. In her voice over, the preview ends with GM saying "...it's my time."

An awful lot of Garden of Eden references in this one…. The humans eating the fruit of the tree of knowledge…. The Serpent… I’m sure they intend that the Bible myth was sourced in the behavior of these entities millennia before…. During a previous iteration of their eternal struggle…. Also the androids were called ‘shepherds,’ and were looking after the welfare of humans…. Could they be angels? It’s all so interesting. Plus, I think the name Vril is a reference to Lord Lytton’s book The Coming Race in which Vril is the magical energy that powers the under world.

the nanomachines (like the ones in Romulus tooth) de-evolve living beings and the fruit makes them evolve, note how the snake evolved after eating it, so it is plausible that AI/The voice de-evolved ancient humans for some reason (protect them, punish them, etc) and now they're trying to give them back to normal until they are enough to merit being herded by the androids

It's super interesting that both Mother and Hunter told Father he's losing focus. But he didn't really listen to Mother. Only to Hunter. I think he still resents Mother for being distracted last season... and isn't having any self-reflection about what he's doing, this season. One would've hoped he would have some understanding, and come to an understanding together with Mother to be more attentive, too. Instead, I think he's gonna sell Mother downriver to Grandmother.

this show, so many flips i am getting whiplash. episode 7 and i still have so many questions. the way the narrative has been laid out, its hard to pin anything down. i thought Grandmother might be an exposition dump, and we only got a little taste in this ep. thoughts on Grandmother: she seems the best candidate now to replace the Trust, but not in the way the Trust was running the show. The baton will be passed to humanity and she will be the SHEPHERD as she was programmed. guiding and keeping humanity safe, but allowing humanity to decide their own course. or maybe since she says she "ensuring the everlasting life of human beings is her priority", if her programming is not nuanced, she may decide on ensuring HUMANITY survives at the expense of a few/many individuals. is the veil/caul very interchangeable? can Mother give it back once she is done with it? is it a way for Grandmother to influence/control Mother? i am going for Grandmother to be benevolent but i am ready for another whiplash moment. Snekromancer and Tree: yes seems to have been all tied into one complicated. convoluted plan of manipulation. i dunno if i give them a pass for how complicate dit was tho. like Sue wouldn't have been pushed to the edge if Paul wasn't infected, and then call out to Sol. the tree seemed to also get itself into a sacrificial stance, all ready to be devoured by the snekcromancer. Sue was trying to warn them but it was also too late. the "programming" was too string and the tree was ready to fulfil its purpose it seems, to be devoured. SO what of the prophesy: no more tree so no more prophecy? where was the sword forged in Sol's light and the leading of people to the tree? many have indeed ate from the tree but no one was LEAD to the tree. are they made pure now? and will they end up with a city of peace? was the prophecy all part of the manipulation too? Tempest: another whiplash moment. first she was invested in not having the baby, then she was and we spent a big chunk of the episode following that storyand then she did not want it again. Sea-momma: i still cant figure out how they really fir into the picture of the show. the kidnapping seemed to be just a coincidental occurence. Sea-momma had her baby die. Then she heard a baby crying out. So she came on shore to kidnap, but seemed to be able to care for it, feed it etc. not gonna question the biology but since they are also a devolved human, maybe there is enough similarity, ie breast milk. but was this just a throwaway story, or is Tempest Baby still more important. the concensus is for a fast growing baby, cos just logistically its better to grow it up at least a few years to make filming easier. Vrille: i think she did in fact hear "baby" noises. maybe from the other dead infant. and the momma went to another cave, the one we find the baby in eventually. also Vrille writing all that info down, was it her code/memories/diaries? will it be a way for her to be brought back since Campion mentioned diff ways for the Botanitech to be used like making new androids. really looking forward to the final ep, but i know they are gonna leva eus wtih sooo many unanswered questions. Thoughts on next season: very likely they will do a time skip. it would be a the best way to deal with the aging of the kids. like how they did it for Lost in Space.

One thing I'm curious about is that the cave painting showed a spaceship with 2 occupants/androids/mother&father and 9 little circles/embryos but the series started with mother and father only bringing 6 embryos to Kepler 22b. Maybe this has been discussed previously and, if it has, please point me to where. I really like this show but I think they are trying a little too hard to give dramatic twists. The way these characters flip so quickly over single interactions just makes it so you are wondering why but you know they don't have time to explain it. Like Tempest flipping on the I dont want my baby, wait I do want it only to have a creature basically solve her problem by taking it, then insisting they go find it at their own peril they go looking then when they find it she's like nevermind and they are all in danger again. She's really annoying.

What an amazing episode! I'm so confused, as it's been stated, that the entity's ultimate goal is to destroy the planet. When grandmother said that, was she referring to the snake as the entity or the voice as the entity? It probably won't happen but it would be so cool if Sue could continue to contact Marcus via radio wave. She was eaten whole though. Poor Vrille. I hope her writings help in ultimately destroying the snake. Crazy that the snake has such a vendetta against Campion specifically. Campion has pretty much been nice to it all along.ove this show! This is, of course, a work of fiction. However, I think the human origins narrative that the show unfolds should necessarily be somewhat plausible to the viewer. As it is, it begs a great deal of belief suspension because it ignores the fact that we currently have a compelling origin story; one endorsed by a majority in the scientific community and by the general culture, namely, of course the theory of evolution. Both this show and the movie Prometheus (both projects with significant involvement by Ridley Scott) suffer narratively as a result, in my estimation.

The Mithraic and Technocrat/Atheist stories now contradict each other, if Grandmother is to be believed. So WHO created the androids, then? - Either Grandmother is lying, or something is missing. I think Grandmother is lying. Also, the Trust's bio-bomb was turning Paul into a serpent. So, is the Trust also an agent of Sol? - In the show, they hint that Androids are great liars (or something to that effect). - At this point, I think that Sol is the only entity, and is playing both sides to achieve its goal (whatever that is).
@ThePraQNome
2 жыл бұрын
I think you misunderstood what Grandmother said. The Technocrats were the ancient atheists that created the Sheperds, which are androids designed to ensure the life of human beings, like Grandmother. So the Technocrats were the ones that created the androids in the first place. On the other hand, the Mithraics are the modern 22nd century believers that created the Necromancers, androids that were weaponized to fight the atheists in the 22nd religious war. I got your confusion here and the more logical explanation to this is that the Mithraic are, in fact, a branch of the Technocrats. This entity named Sol might have influenced humans from the ancient Technocrats civilizations and they became believers, which caused great religious war that destroyed Kepler 22b. That would explain why the Mithraics possessed the technology to create the Necromancers, cause they were a branch of Technocrats in the past that followed a different path.
@JohnSmith-oe4bw

@@ThePraQNome - Yes. After thinking about this a bit, I think the same. That the twist, is that the Mithraic ARE an extension of the original Technocrats from K22. That's why it was confusing. Because on ancient K22, it was like Earth, but reversed. That is IF Grandmother is telling the truth. - I still think that Grandmother is lying/tricking Mother. I think that she created the old snakes and she made kepler 22b humans to devolve... Father was with her and he manage to escape taking with him few embryos and restarting the humanity on earth. Or she sends him there with a mission to do it and to bring back humans on kepler 22 back one day. Now she manipulated everyone so she can back in her body. But most important is that she need a weapon and this is where the snake comes... This is her guardian. She lied to Mother that the snake will destroy the planet because she wants to put the veil on her... She was banned from Eden and she mingled with lots of 'beasts' in the desert / wilderness. Sounds familiar? ;-) But there's more! She had not eaten from the Tree of Life and as such was immortal. As a way of punishment for leaving Eden, her children were killed. To avenge the deed, she started killing people's babies (devolving them??). To protect their offspring, people USED PENTAGRAMS AGAINST HER. This could be big. The whole Mithraic belief and temples on the planet revolve around pentagonal artifacts.
