I had a Starling I raised it from a baby like you did, took it to work with me so I could feed him, I had him for 25 years, he could talk & whistle . Starlings are known to be one of the most talkative Bird there is, so I’ve heard. He sure could say a lot of words. He would take baths in my hands & I would let him outside too, thanks for sharing..

Im wondering if this isn’t a blackbird instead of a starling. The older he has gotten, the more I think he is a blackbird with the long tail and he sounds like a blackbird, especially when he flies.
@sonshineandsong

@@roundbaby4749 he's titled it a grackle and then talks about starlings being relatives. So confusing. I did some research to figure out what bird I found and learned that a grackle is related to blackbirds. So you are right.

Can’t thank you enough for capturing Buddy’s rescue and early life, but even more I thank you so deeply for demonstrating how a human male can be tender and caring. You are doing absolutely the right thing! People who say things like leave the baby bird alone (therefore to die), or "kill him" (? some people are crazy... ) should be ignored! These are the kind of people who would destroy the planet if they could, and they are crazy! Your starling is amazing, beautiful, smart, and you raised him so well! It was great to watch his development, and how he learned, and how you took every precaution for him to feel safe, and finally confident.

@@angelmartin7310 I really don't think there's any "usually" with these animals, every animal has its own personality, for whatever reason. I raised two baby robins once, that fell out of the same damaged nest, with no parent birds around. On "release date", one of them just was never interested in hanging around, the other hung around for a couple of weeks.

This is so cool. I am taking care of a baby starling right now. Found him trapped in a fire pit with two dead siblings. After seeing your videos I'm wondering if I could keep him as an outdoor pet. I have a wooded property with plenty of other birds. I just learned that starlings stay in Canada during the winter, which was a concern of mine. Maybe I can build him an outdoor bird house and he might just end up staying, I don't know.

You are doing an amazing job. The only problem is this bird constantly thinks about food. If the birds are too fat when they are little they can’t fly because they got too much weight. Their wings are so fragile. He can’t lug all that weight around when he first learns how to fly.

What I find to totally amazing is the ability of birds to receive imprinting; being a sole survivor it means that the primary carer becomes his example of how to live - and his instincts now cause him to enter the front door like a human. I wonder if you agree?

The starling (or grackle) came back from day 18 through day 30, and then stopped. Once they get used to the outdoors, it becomes less and less. One day, around day 34 or so, I was sitting in my yard, and heard him make his trademark clicking noise to me from the area above the stone wall. He was walking around, picking things up from the grass. I threw some food to him, and other birds flew away, but he still walked around poking for a while, then flew off. :-)

I really like your videos! I found a baby bird under a tree in June. He had a few feathers. His eyes were hard to open. I fed him with soaked dog food. In 28 days he became a beautiful black bird, looked like yours. But his tail was wider and wings were much longer. I googled he is a male common blackbird. Since it is my first time to get a bird, I always got nervous when he flew. One time he tried to fly to my shoulder, I stepped away, he fell, then he never tried. The last day he flew in my bathroom, I thought he wanted to go out. My husband put him in a box and took him to our backyard. He got scared. I guess he didn't like being grabbed. He flew to other people's garden and tried to avoid us. I put water and food for him and he ate the food. He stayed there overnight, but next morning I can't find him. The house owner told me he was there in the early morning around 5:30, but I was there 6:30, he was not there. I guess someone kicked him out because he never went back. I feed him every morning around 6:30. He should wait for me. That was him first time left home, he didn't know anything outside, he never ate wild food. I believed has died in two days without food. He flew very low. He never go on the tree. He always hid under bushes. I was crazy to look for him. He really broke my heart. Now he left home 45 days. I hope he can survive by instinct. There are a lot of birds eating on the grass in my area. I hope he can learn from them. I feel terrible to lose him.
