I wonder if I could use that to recreate a kit for either my great-grandfather or my 2nd great-grandfather. My great-grandfather was adopted and we were able to use autosomal DNA to figure out who his birth mother was, but we are still unsure about the birth father. We have kits for myself, my father, his brother, and my grandfather (all descendants of the adoptee), but no kits for other family members. The DNA matches for my great-grandfather's birth mother do not have their kits uploaded to GEDmatch. There are some kits that are on GEDmatch that I *think* might be/probably are on my 2nd ggf's side, but not 100% sure.

Hi Niamh, I would start by getting the relations of your great grandfather's birth mother to upload to Gedmatch. Then you could try making a kit for your great grandfather by putting his descendants in group 1 and the relatives of his birth mother in group 2. You could experiment with adding additional people who you believe are also related through one of his parents, but bear in mind that this can cause problems if you get it wrong or if that person proves to have more than one relationship to the people in group 1. I tend to prefer to restrict my Lazarus kits to proven relationships by I know others do a bit more experimenting! Make sure you test the kit after you create it to ensure it is matching the people you expect it to match and noone from the other side of your family. Good luck!
