The minimum age of marriage and civil partnerships in England and Wales has been raised from 16 to 18 for everyone.
It is now a criminal offence to arrange a child marriage, carrying a sentence up to 7 years in prison.
The law change will crack down on forced marriages which can have a long-lasting, damaging impact on a child’s life and delivers on the Government’s continued commitment to tackle violence against women and girls.
