Rakhwale- 34 Years of Indian Intervention in Sri Lanka: The lessons IPKF learnt.
On 30 July, 1987, the Indian Peace-keeping Force (IPKF) marched into Sri Lanka to implement the Indo-Sri Lanka Peace Accord. The force was soon embroiled in a fierce fight with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) led by Velupillai Prabhakaran. The force was called back in March 1990. But did we bring back and implement the hard learnt lessons from the jungles of Sri Lanka? Defence expert and Executive Editor, India Today Magazine, Sandeep Unnithan has some answers.
Sandeep also reacts to the proposed procurement of 30 MQ 9 Reaper drones (armed) for the three services and US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken's visit to India when Taliban controlls ever larger areas in Afghanistan following US withdrawl.
