Excellent review, I've had my T16000 for over a year now and I love it. To complement your review: 1. PRO: The throttle index finger analog stick can be clicked in the same way console controller sticks can. This can be used to switched modes of use or for any other action you desire. 2. CON: The throttle slider got "sticky" after a couple weeks, I had to reduce the resistance considerably to be able to move is smoothly. 3. CON: After a long time, both the throttle analog stick and the main stick get stuck a tiny bit off the center position, I need to flick them to get them back to the very center. This is fixable by increasing deadzone, but I thought people should know about it.

One thing for anyone buying this today for DCS. I would recommend using one button on the throttle as a modifier (I found the leftmost pinky button to be the best). This allowed me to map ALL functions of all the fc3 planes onto the throttle and joystick without an issue. It really helps in vr where you can't really rely on your keyboard because you can't see it.

Also spotted from the very beginig the lack of buttons on the joystick, tho from what you say it handles quite good, so it has that going for it

Just to add an afterthought: 1) The amber light that glows when you push the stick might be annoying for some people and I'm unsure if the TARGET software lets you disable that. 2) Lack of dual stage trigger might be annoying. 3) Lack of dual throttles might be disadvantageous.

On the led: I openend my T.16000 joystick and cut one of the cables for the leds. Its just too annoying with them always turning on and off. I thought about unsoldering it from the pcb instead but it isnt easily accessible. Unsoldering would have allowed me to solder it back on in case it breaks and i have to sent it in for warranty.

So glad they've done well with the throttle, the stick was already a decent and well established/trusted bit of kit The flappy paddle axis on the front of the throttle featured on the much cheaper T-flight Hotas-x, and is a great alternative as a rudder axis if you don't like using the stick twist (no pedals) Great review Ralfi, those demonstrational/presentational hand gestures... 10/10

ralfidude As you alluded to in the video, modifiers are key (lul) with this stick. I used the orange thumb button on the right side of the throttle at the bottom to veritably double my joystick button count. Nice note about the front axis on the throttle too. I will have to test those as buttons given that I currently use the twist rudder on the joystick.

niketariq Not sure if srs. I didn't know people used a full HOTAS for Battlefield. If that's not a thing, then no. I'd say this is overkill for the BF series. Save yourself money and get a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro. No separate throttle but Battlefield isn't a flight sim so it seems to me like a bit too over the top unless you have the money to throw at it. Edit: Never responded to accuracy and response. They are both top notch in my experience. Hall effect sensors make for a very accurate stick.

I got this fcs hotas (almost) 4 years ago on my birthday/Christmas (yes, it’s on the same day). I use it almost every day and I am still happy about this product. In DCS F-16/AV8B it’s wonderfull to use. I use a modifier, but I have everything mapped what I want. 1,5 years later I bought also the pedals for it. Those are a little bit wonkey for my liking, but they still do the job. Thanks Ralfi for this wonderfull review. It made my sim life much easier and a big step up towards a more stable ‘fighting’ spirit in multiplayer land. On a side note: I am saving money now for an upgrade (VIRPIL) Hotas system.

I've since upgraded to the Warthog with the F/A-18 stick, and while i love it, I really don't mind this for games like Star Citizen and such. The throttle is a bit notchy, but all and all it's not bad. The finger paddles on the throttle give you good strafe, the slider on the stick gives you good vertical ascent and decent, all and all not horrid for the price. If you're looking to get into using a HOTAS, this is pretty not bad for the price and what it is. The one major downside I found is it requiring TWO USBs. Between mouse and keyboard, wheel, wireless connectors for the headset, xbox controller, and so on, if you don't have a good amount of USB ports, you're left constantly unplugging and plugging in things when you want to play different games.

I bought this setup with the TFRP pedals because of this review and I've been using them for a bit over a year now so I have a few things to note as far as durability / tips for a better experience: something you should do almost right out of the box is to disassemble the base of the throttle and add some small felt pieces l between the rails and the sliding contact point. The rails in their default config feel a bit sticky and results in poor precision as the factory lube rubs off fairly quick. I tried lubing it up a little with some spray lube with teflon I got from the hardware store but it just rubs off instantly. A thicker lube may work better but the felt pads havent given me any issues other than sometimes hitting 99% throttle instead of 100% which is minor in my opinion. The slew sensor has developed a bit of drift as of recently. I'll get around to taking it apart at some point to see if I can fix it, and so far everything disassembly wise has been very user friendly, so i have confidence I'll find some kind of remedy. Personally i don't really like the buttons on the base of the flight stick assembly. They're hard to differentiate without looking directly at it, so while they can be useful for things like turning on autopilot or switching flight modes i would stay away from using them in any kind of high stress situation, especially since you need to take your hand off either the throttle or stick to push them. The pinky rotational axis is fantastic, by far my favorite input on the whole thing and I usually bind it as a zoom in conjunction with my TrackIr. The TFRP pedals are very simple but they get the job done. On my carpet they tend to slide back so they end up against the wall. There's a potential issue with this because if you fully push the rudder and push down the toe brake the toe brake will only travel about half way before hitting the wall. This is usually not much of an issue but in some planes in IL-2 BoX this can be annoying. As far as comfort is concerned they're not really. They're too tight together which if you're not prepared for can be a big turn off, however if you've learned left foot braking in cars and racing sims then it won't feel that weird. I have no problem using them with my bare feet since the plastic never feels that cold, however I generally rest my feet off to the side when I dont need them as the texturing and angle that I use them at underneath my desk is a bit awkward. If you have a deep desk or you pull your desk forward you can get a better angle. I have a hard time finding a use for the paddle axis on the back of the throttle and i've completely given up trying to figure out the TARGET software to try and map them as buttons. The orange buttons are rubberized and are satisfying to press, great for any time you need to hold down a button like for a brake or to fire a laser. The two way switch is simple and effective. The 2 hat switches on the side get the job done and have very unique shapes to help you differentiate between them. The 8 way POV feels weird when trying to use it as a 4 way hat and its very hard to hit the corners since the travel distance isnt as far as that for the main 4 directions so I wish it was either a better 8 way or just another 4 way hat. The 8 way pov on the flight stick is great and in a good position. The 3 buttons on the top of the stick feel like a waste of space, would have really liked to see some different switches on the top other than just the POV TRIGGER WARNING the trigger is pretty bland but it gets the job done. Resting the index underneath it feels a bit awkward so i rest it on the trigger but i've never accidentally hit it so no worries there. A bit of loose travel at first until you actually feel the switch so you can click it, its a real shame they didnt make it a 2 stage trigger, that would have been extremely nice. So overall for the $200 i spent I'm pretty happy with it, its a bit quirky but overall a fantastic beginner's flight sim setup.

This was still very good and ever surprising choise, to get now, 6 years later. Im really happy that I bought one! I started DCS after a long time, about over a year ago, with my ~20 years old first generation saitex 45, with self in tinned old ch pedals one em (LOL). Still played a year, and i really liked the feel of original saiteks throttle BUT it is shitty as hell what comes to any other thing. This is kinda vice verca. It is accurate as hell, after those saitek old sensors. Mine was also just at he end of their liftime so kinda any upgrade would have been good. But still today I would had need to put almost 400 bucks to have FULL hotas with hall (or samekind) sensors WITH this button configuration in my throttle. I also like the sticks buttons as well. That stick button #2 in the middle of the stick, under the pov switch, can be used as a pinkie (or at least my hand can) for that pov switch in the stick. In that way I have the two povs in the stick i have used to. Dont know if its even designed so, as the button in todays stick is even curved under to be just in correct spot just under the pov. (If it wasnt that "trim" design hat dunno if this would work, but with that "pyramid" design I noticed it is easy enough to use it in that way). I really are even overwhelmed what comes to buttons / axis in the throttle, as was kinda mentioned also here. Those two little buttons in front are really easy also to use as a pinkies, in a way that you can easily acces EVERY button and axis there is in the throttle, without moving hand anywhere. Just the finger moving the pinkie + the button itself :D (I would have said "without lifting a finger", but.. :) Only thing that bothers me is the "wobblyness" of the handle itself, when the friction screw of the throttle is loosened. It even shakes little bit (though not in use very much) when tightened. And ofc with this one have to be really carefull with that screw not to roll it over (tighten it too much)! Today there is full of upgrade kits, made by 3rd parties, to the throttles mechanics. Like roller bearings with metallic bearing plate, to replace the original "plastic against the rails" friction system. With silicon, gunoil, nyogel, etc also that original plastic plate "bearing" can be made pretty smooth, as it feels kinda sticky as new. Though, when i looked the insides of it, when the friction screw is loosened the handle gets to wobble a littlebit just because its built as it built (it can put the pressure to one rail more that to the other and vice versa, by how the hand is situated in different positions.) But thats not really an issue, and is not kinda thing I would be anykind of dissapointed or something in this price level, with all the positive things included! I am VERY happy with new TM t.16000m, I could not have gotten better HOTAS for my use, at this moment. And you can imagine how I feel now while flying after a year of thumbling with half broken SAITEK x45. I even trained AAR with that, to the point I could manage it with no big troubles, which now seems pretty crazy. (AAR btw with t.16000m went first time straight in the bucket and full tank with one connection. Which I dont remember doing any time before :P). I have been thinking to get more pricy virpil on wingwing stuff, but now when using this, have made me really wonder. With hard daily playing of DCS, ofc more or less everything worns on its time. Others faster, others take longer, but still they all worn, what comes to mechanics. With this price if I brake it, I dont cry, I buy a new one and party goes on. But If I brake 1000 dollar setup. I really cry, and I dont buy a new one. This ofc is a question of money, but as a Student in my old years, seemed better tactic to buy this. When I heard this was a hall sensor, and also in throttle the resolution is good, the choise was pretty clear. Still today...

I really appreciate the review. It has been a long dream of mine to get a rig going with a decent HOTAS and being a fan of your videos I obviously got to add the Warthog HOTAS to that dreamlist. Never the less, with budget not allowing me to make all my dreams come true, I had to make a desicion. I ended up buying this very spesific stick, although it did not come with the throttle, sadly. I bought it about two weeks ago, so just before your video was released. The desicion was made between this stick and a couple of others and while a couple of the affordable choices i had lied between Thrustmaster and some other brands, I decided on this stick purely because of the HEART HALL sensor, or whatever its called. I have to say i am impressed and for the first time ever I can start my training and enter the world of flight. So don't shoot me down just yet LOL. (>.

Solid video, GG Ralfi. I picked one up a couple weeks ago and strongly agree that my biggest gripe is the 12 buttons (and slider) that are nearly useless on the flight stick in a HOTAS configuration. I got mine for Elite Dangerous and am enjoying using it, though I wish they had put more controls within 'fingers reach' on the flight stick instead of repurposing a previous design. Also, I may be incorrect, but was under the impression the centering and resistance in the flight stick is magnetic, and not spring-based. Thanks for the insightful review!

I've flown this HOTAS for some weeks now, including DCS, E: Dangerous and Starcitizen. It has 1 bigger and 2 minor flaws: 1)The big flaw: the throttle gets sticky over time. You can regrease it using Nyogel 767A or Molykote 33 light grease, nothing else. 2) The cente of the stick is quite stiff. When I sometimes feel like really clamping the stick for small movements, because as soon as it moves, it usually moves to far (around the very centre) but it's not that bad, just sometimes annoying. 3) the little joystick on the front of the throttle is just in the wrong place, my indexfinger is troubled with moving it precisely. My thumb would be much more capable. Great Hotas when you're not sure about what it is used for. But I guarantee, when you get hooked with DCS, you'll spend a lot of dollars for a warthog or a virpil. It is ambidextrous, so it might have a future in a space sim as second stick. Ah well; the trigger. People said there was slack in it, but it's actually a holding point / pressure point.. you just move the trigger to the first point of resistance, and from there you have a super crisp and preise releasepoint.

Excellent review! I’ve had the T.16000M for a few years, more precisely since 2012, and I confirm that it is a pretty good joystick, especially for the price range. I bought it after having been using the Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback 2 since 2001. In 2012 the IR LED in the system that detects the presence of the hand and activates the Force Feedback started to fail, probably because of a worn cable or welding, and I thought I would conserve it as a museum piece and buy a new one. So I chose the T.16000M In fact, I’m on the second one, because the thrust slider on the first became faulty only after about 6 months, and that is the only really week point in this joystick. I became especially fond of this stick after starting to use DCS World in April 2015. I can do almost everything with just the buttons on the joystick and two modifiers, the CTRL and SHIFT keys on the keyboard. Of course it takes a huge mental exercise to remember all those controls, especially in the A-10C and in the Ka-50, but if they are well planned then it becomes second nature. I have to say though that either if you are right or left handed the buttons on the base either to the right or to the left side are extremely difficult to use, and almost useless, especially for critical or basic more common controls. Also, the position of the slider, at the centre to accommodate both right and left handed players makes it a bit difficult to access too. I would prefer it on the left. Now I will have to get one of these new HOTAS and see how it performs.

Loving this review, please do more. You focus on alot more things than other people. As for the product I think it's great, the gaming community has been desperate for a good mid range joystick. While I own the warthog I may consider this for my other less intensive games as the warthog can be cumbersome to say the least. Thrustmaster has done a good job, hopefully this will become a consistent pattern into the future.

thanks for a great run up on the T16 Its joystick is more precise and there are more than enough controls to cover almost every aspect for ED. Am replacing the cheaper Thrustmaster which suffered from sloppy definitions for flight and targeting. Now to add Voice Attack and an IR set up in the coming month, Your presentation is much appreciated. Thanks.

The extra YAW on the stick is great for 6 axis flying. While I think that I will get the Warthog, it's still a steal for 200 euros for the entire set (incl. the paddles.)

One Single note I'd add, I'm glad that the Stick is lacking in the normal amount of Hats that more expensive Sticks have. This means it is less crowded and those with super small hands can still use the stick effectively. And Thank you for the precise review on all major titles that use Stick and Throttle Controls.

Well more is better. Thrustmaster would have seen a HUGE spike in sales if they had revamped their stick to have more HATs. What simmers want is a cheap, reliable HOTAS with enough buttons. This just isn't it... (aside from the throttle)

I currently own this hotas and I love it but there is a BIG problem that has plagued me with this the throttle system (being on rails) is good but it does jump sometimes so you will have to lubricate the rails after long term lack of use and OH MY GOD is it annoying you have to unscrew and basically take it apart to lube the rails (use silicone grease it won't eat away at the plastic over time) which when completed gives it back that sleek feeling until you have to re lube
@alanhobson9121

I used nyogel instead of silicone. It works much better and lasts longer in my opinion. As for taking it apart to lube it, you can actually put a bit of lube on your finger, reach in the slot, and rub it on the rails without removing the bottom of the throttle.

got this as my first non keyboard control method (excluding some old PS3 controllers i have lying around) and i am NOT disappointed. i was actually surprised at how quickly i could get the hang of it, really great HOTAS for the price. my only complaint is that the throttle is a little bit "sticky" so its hard to do fine throttle adjustments, but i'm sure that will get better after using it more.

Thanks. I am going to buy this setup with the pedals. I had the full CH Pro kit years ago but don't want spend that much now. I currently have the old model stick configured as a left hander but will bite the bullet and start to use my right hand again. At least I have the second stick if I go down the two stick option :) Time to get my Track IR back out...

Wow, you made a sale for Thrustmaster. I was thinking of either this or the entry level T-X flight before buying the warthog. Thrustmaster seems to make quality hotas when reading the reviews for their products. Just got ED for oculus which shows its perfect for it and hope this hotas will also work for eve as well. I also have MS flight sim which I think works with the T line of hotas. Awesome review, thank you much.

I use the joystick t16000m 1.5 years. For the time of use 5 times I changed the button in the interior of the joystick on the trigger. Also there was a backlash of the handle and this problem either how not to solve, although it regularly lubricated the hinge with silicone damping grease. In general I'm not happy with them at first pleased. Was very strong to the touch and in appearance, although it was only at first. I do not advise taking it. And even the spring is very tight.

One issue I ran into with this joystick is the cheap potentiometer (old tech as opposed to hall sensors) used in the yaw axis. Due to poor design / skimping on the hall sensor, quite a few of these sticks develop an issue where the yaw axis fluctuates / drifts to the point where it's unusable. There are fixes for this, all of which include taking the stick apart. What worked for me is taking the potentiometer apart and cleaning it, and potentially trimming some plastic that crushes the pot. I've had to clean it twice now. It's a bit of a fiddle, but as long as you're okay with taking it apart, it's not a deal breaker. The trigger pin is a PITA to get out however. Also worth noting if you're not willing to do this yourself, Thrustmaster doesn't have a repair facility in the UK, nor Europe I believe.

The one problem that the stick has is the twist sensor. It is a real low-end cheap component that WILL fail if used for yaw in Flight-Simming after a few months. I went through FOUR sticks before giving up and getting a VKB stick instead. The throttle is still going though and you're right, it does the job!

Great review! I bought this setup, using it with my PS4 in ED. Only downside is to find the "middle" on the throttle.. ..Ofcourse I have solved this! Adding LED's - red, orange, yellow green and 1 blue for the center did it. Also, bought some silicone grease and added it to the throttle, so smooth movement..

Ok, it's October, 2020. I have that same HOTAS and it's great. Yep there's better ones out there but you'll pay threw the nose for them. For us budget gamers it is a very good choice. You will have to do the suggested throttle adjustment and it will work seamlessly.

The potentiometer in the flight stick is usually the first part to go bad, if you don't have the warranty its best to just unsolder the potentiometer from the circuit board inside the stick itself.

hi, Thank you for this review. i almost was stupid enough to get a saitek product again (even though i had the x52 twice and the x52 pro and all broke, before they broke they had issues too :P). i got the fcs so including the rudders. I just hooked everything up, everything was plug and play. no issue's. 15 minutes later i am playing, and i am shocked at the difference between saitek and also the logitech 3d (decent stick too but its not a hotas). It's superprecise the control feels much better then with the saitek. for anyone doubting between an x5.. saitek system..dont buy it, the quality is awfull. go for this or the complete fcs pack. it will save you frustrations and money.

for the stick, I miss the older version honestly with the green lights (t-16000m not 1.16000m). The stick seems more stable and has less give than this newer yellow lighted version. But overall I really like this HOTAS as a whole and the stick differences are opinion really for me, would be different for others I am sure. I really like the new throttle system though, it feels nice compared to the old saiteks I also have used. Also 100% agree on the HAT on the throttle, really awkward unless used as a free look button, again at least for me.

I tried Elite Dangerous in the exact setup he has at 10:02. It worked pretty well. He is right about the lack of buttons and hats, though. Even though it has a bunch of buttons on the base, it sadly was not sufficient for a VR experience as I had no idea what button I was pressing with the Rift covering my vision. That being said, the additional 3 axis along side my Hog was extremely useful. I was also able to deal with my lack of stick buttons with Voice Attack for less important functions (such as gear and scoop). With this configuration, I found Elite very enjoyable. One final thing about the stick. Not having a devoted throttle in Elite is a little weird. Since throttle ends up relative with a second stick, it's very easy to jump into stars by mistake since I can't throttle down while jumping. Be warned!

I already have the T16000m, which I've modified by adding a Pinkie Switch and an Index Finger Switch; paralleled with the almost inaccessible #12 & #13 switches. I bought the throttle last wekk and I had the joystick for a good 2 years now. The throttle is fantastic, a hundred times better than the CH pro throttle which I own. Thrustmaster is looking out for sim-ers with their budget hardware, they could have easily bumped up the price a lot more because the competitors are more expensive but they didn't, and they kept the quality standards high.

That pinky rotary knob would be so good for the AV-8B Harrier's nozzles. I cleaned up a Saitek Cyborg EVO from a garage sale, and I need more hat switches. A TWCS throttle would give me more input options than a budget flight stick.

the stick is alright, i'm still stuck on whether or not i prefer the extreme 3d pro over this one (it's half the price) but the throttle is a GAMECHANGER personally i use the analog stick on the index finger portion of the throttle for camera movement and it is so helpful

Having used my system the last 2 weeks, my only complaint is the weight (or lack thereof). The throttle is smooth but also sometimes feels like it's chattering/binding a little (no noise just feeling). From the video your unit appears to exhibit the same trait. If this unit weighed a bit more it wouldn't flop around and after 20 years of using a Force Feedback Pro 2 the lack of weight leaves me flopping about. That said I plan to try and bolt it and the throttle down. Hopefully by the summer I'll also add a set of MFG Crosswind pedals. I've been into flight Sims for 32 years now and this joystick is the best investment since I got TrackIR 11 years ago. The response is night and day with the FFP 2 and as you noted it's taken my helo and plane handling to new levels.
