So was that drilled/tapped into the stock ST1300 handlebar riser mount? Or aftermarket riser? I have a 2012 ST1300 & I bought a Chigee AIO Lite display w Android Auto/Apple Car Play to mirror my phone for GPS & music etc.. I need a permanent mount location & not too keen mounting it up high on top of dash above speedo/RPM etc.

I think that was an aftermarket part but it was a few years ago and the bike was sold.

Cool. I was wondering where you were going to drill a hole to mount the ball.

There are likely a couple more spots that could be done to but I only need one more for now

why not just tap the cast aluminum ?

chevy6299 the steel threads will last way longer. I worked on “special weapons” for a while in the military and we never threaded anything into aluminum without first inserting a Heli Coil. Maybe it’s just a habit...

OK but that is what I would do unless it was to thin maybe a nut with locktight.

chevy6299 if the threads on a heli coil are damaged they are replaceable. If the threads on the aluminum are damaged you have to tap it to the next size. Either way works in the end

True, I was just wondering why you used a heli coil. I used them a lot in the USCG.
