The physical contrast between Salazar and Leon is interesting, especially when you consider Salazar's own insecurities about his appearance. Leon is, in many ways, what Salazar wishes he could look like.

A bit about the Don Quixote thing: it's hard to know anything about the story without knowing that Don isn't the hero of it. He's the title character, sure, but he's a fanatic of a dead world of feudalism and knighthood and, even in his most benign moments, he profoundly messes everything else up for the other characters. If Luis refers himself to that, it's only because (and the last non-cutscene conversation you have with him basically says this in other words) he knows how far in the wrong he was that he sincerely believes that the only way his story can really end is in tragedy. To that end, it's more like Luis is accepting his role as the story's bumbling idiot than using it as any form of escapism.

To have a disability like dwarfism is already rough when the world isn’t built to accommodate you, but to also be subject to mockery your whole life would probably make anyone really insecure and want to lash out. It isn't made explicit in the game, and it's purely my interpretation of the visuals, but I think there's yet another reason for Salazar to hate Leon so much. Leon is a brave, healthy, handsome and strong man, going out of his way to protect innocent people. Leon IS the valiant knight Salazar craves to be so much. Leon is everything Salazar is not. Leon is very hands-on, Salazar is very remote, Leon is no-nonsense and snarky, Salazar is all about theatrics and grandeur, etc etc. And on the characters trying to live out the fantasy only to be violently interrupted - it's so interesting that it's done to Luis by Leon's dark reflection, yet another parallel between Leon and Krauser. They both play the role of an iceberg that crushes the ship of another character's fantasy dreams, but Luis dies while managing to do something good in his troubled life, honoured and respected by his newfound friend, and Salazar deservingly goes out undignified, with the castle gates literally falling on his body

7:16 Incorrect. It's actually heavily insinuated that Ramón is the devil that took Diego's life. A piece of environmental story telling is what gives it away. After the knife fight with Krauser with Leon returning to the surface, you can go back track to Salazar's throne room (where you can get a Golden Egg that can take away half his health during his fight if thrown at him). Besides his throne there are two large portraits, one of a woman and one of a man. Leon even comments that these must be his parents. If you look closer at the painting of Diego, you'll notice that you can collect a boot knife that's lodged in the former counts heart. Coincidence? Maybe, but I don't believe so.

I'm starting to wonder if Salazar's new design didn't take some inspiration from how governors, high lords and nobles are generally depicted in the Warhammer 40k universe. They are generally fat, gross looking, weak willed individuals with egos the size of solar system that deflates quickly at the sight of real danger. The product of centuries of nepotism, negligence, overindulgence, and probably too much cross breeding. There's also the clothes Salazar is wearing - if you dropped him right into W40k, he can pass for a hive-spire's lord without difficulties. You'd just need a bio-mechanical eye or prosthetic arm to complete the look.

You're absolutely correct about the story being second place. This is true, in fact, for every single Capcom game. And can sometimes lead itself to incredibly interesting stories. Monster Hunter World for example, I can't fault anyone for saying that it's a game without story, that you're there to fight big creatures and anything else is just to contextualize. But the entire jouney to a new world as an aspiring hunter, learning the ecology of a new place, finding new monsters and figuring out their place in the ecosystem and watching your character grow from 5th fleet newbie into the Sapphire Star is incredibly endearing. That world feels more alive that a _lot_ of RPGs I've played, and it virtually has "no" story. Same thing with Devil May Cry. The series had a serious, despite arrogant, Dante in the first two games. The third one was a prequel to all, and he was a complete jokester. He simply mocked everything and everyone and that game was the turning point in popularity. THAT is the Dante everyone knows. So obviously, 4 and 5 had the same Dante as 3. That means that he went from funny Dante, to somber Dante, and then funny Dante again. It seems inconsistent, but the end of DMC3 has him losing his brother for a second time and forces him to take his job seriously. Hence serious Dante for 1 and 2. He then loses people he cares about in these two games as well, and DMC2 has him handing out his coin to Lucia near the end, a coin that he used to decide what to do. By that point he realized that taking things seriously wasn't related to how he acts or feels. He was himself in DMC3, so he simply returns to that while having more life experience to not push away family and friends anymore. All of these cases might be reading too much into it and you probably can find plot holes in it, but they're undeniable charismatic stories. Even if it's a side effect of focusing on gameplay and fun.
@naedanger123
Жыл бұрын
You’ll notice that in the beginning of DMC4, Dante is also solemn and serious as he executes Sanctus and fights off the guards. It’s only when he sees Nero’s arm and feels his possible familial connection that he begins to lighten up a little, and of course as the game goes on his spirits raise more and more and by the end he’s his normally joking self again.

Great Video about Salazar. Now what I wanna know is if you’re going to a video about Isidro Uriarte Talavera, the Verdugo who is also responsible for the Black Liquid and Novistadors of the game. I think he is also responsible for the creation of U-III which is yet to be seen

While I love Salazar's characterization in the remake, I am not a fan of his boss battle. His mutated form's design in the original game is one of my favorite monster designs in the series. Yeah the original fight isn't as grand and amazing as it is in the remake, but I prefer the original design.

To be honest, I really pity Ramón. It wasn't his fault he was born the way he was. He was probably looked down on and belittled (ha) his whole life. So of course he'd be angry at the world. His position as a noble also gave him a layer of superiority, but it was paper thin because no one respected him. I'm not defending him. I'm just saying parts of his life were unfair, and he chose to become evil as a reaction. I pity him, and I find it funny that it would piss him off to no end to hear me say that.

His bossfight is quite difficult if you don't pay attention to him and the hazards he leaves to trip you up. You have to keep a medium distance to better avoid getting liquidated or one shot. I find the explosive bolt thrower works very well as landing a mine bolt directly on Ramon will bring him down for a melee strike. Also the fact he takes massive damage from eggs is great. Really sets in how much of a disgrace he is to his bloodline.

just adding it here salazar's insecurities might be reflected in his clothing; while it suits his role as a castellan, I'd still think he tries to cover up his looks with the clothes he wears there's also the rouge he carries around; he still looks ugly with it, but he might feel secure using it since it looks like it's been used when you inspect it

Translation clarification: 'pobrecito' doesn't have to be a direct allusion to Tom Thumb, people use it the way someone would say "poor thing". Still pretty patronizing so the interpretation doesn't really change. (Literally, pobre means poor and -cito is a suffix which converts an adjective into a noun) (native speakers feel free to correct me if I'm wrong)

Brett, I know you haven't read the book so let me tell you something. Harry has actually done ALOT considering how his movement is insanely restricted. I know that you have never had that, but I know what he went through because I lived in a place while growing up when as a child I could literally bash my head against the wall begging to be let out and wouldn't be allowed to. If I had gone out, my chances of ... dying would have skyrocketed even further than they already had. I was barely able to go to school, and when I went not a single year after 2001 was free of school shootings. I had to wear a ridiculously conservative outfit because some terrorist organization threatened the girls at my school calling us harlots if we didn't dress a certain way. I was very depressed, for as long as I can remember... confined and depressed. And yes Harry has been fortunate enough to be born into wealth, but his parents also got divorced, his mom passed away when he was very small, and his dad married the woman with whom he was being unfaithful to her... What's worse is that he at some point came to the realization that his father and his mistress were real life star-crossed lovers, with the woman he married being called atrocious stuff and deemed "unsuited" for royalty just because of crap like "she was not a virgin". I'm sorry but even he knows not everyone is Lady Diana Spencer and shouldn't be held to these standards, they're too rigid. Everything he said or did was all over tabloids and the news, he was publically called stuff like reckless and stupid... He was admittedly never going to be someone who's into literature, he seems more like someone who's more into video games and Pixar films.... y'know, like your average person and it in way him lesser, in fact he seems like a very big person admitting to it. The rules of his family, when you read that book, are insane... Like imagine being told to your face to shave your beard? What the heck is even that? Do they have a problem with men having facial hair? WTF? The fact that he said no and walked away, knowing that it put his family into the same position we're all at is ballsy... see no one would choose to have freedom over a steady income that can never be compromised, at least that's what we've been told our entire lives, no one would choose love over money and status... that's also what we've been told. What's funny is that just like every single one of us, he was convinced that was the absolute truth.... but when it boiled down to it, other stuff kicked in... like paternal instincts, and being protective over his wife, and feeling responsible to provide as opposed to live off of taxpayers' dollars for the rest of his life. It's actually funny that I see him get slandered all the time for choosing what, when it boils down to it, we'd all choose and it's in exact opposition to what we think we'd choose. We think we'd act selfishly and choose to get in line and keep our money coming... but we don't. We choose to love, we choose kindness, humility, and uncertainty in the hopes of doing better, and doing right by ourselves and those closest to us... more importantly, we choose each other! As opposed to serving a "system" that takes our individuality, paints us white even though we have flaws, and tells us we are justified in doing terrible things because "it's for the greater good". Please read it, it's actually funny, heartfelt, and delightful. If you don't want to pay him that's fine don't buy it... But if anything I've learned reading that book, it's that Harry is an interesting rather human unaverage Joe... One whose company you'd probably enjoy because... he's a total bro. Again, don't bother with the negative publicity, he mentions Rupert Murdoch by name in that one, so it's no wonder he was flagellated by anyone whose careers Murdoch can (And will) destroy. I mean, the dude owns everything from FOX News to WSJ, he owns papers in the UK like The Telegraph and in Australia... Has a crazy powerful worldwide reach.

I love that Ramon speaks more Spanish in the remake, and oh my goodness the more you says gross is hilarious I honestly bet that his real hair is just as gross and greasy as his face probably balding It would've been even better if he still fused with his left hand just show how weak he is. 😅In my opinion they took Salazar old story from the original and gave it the Chief. In the original they made it seem like a ignorant fool that didn't know any better. I'm glad that they didn't go with the pity route, with Ramon. That he's always been an arrogant sadist jacka$$, but I always had theories since I've first played the game as a kid that Salazar was a bastard child and he's father probably only married his mother to avoid a scandal. Still mad they cut out his sassiness and hat. I honestly think that whole family was f*cked up, and downright disrespectful and nasty.
