This has been an issue on Ram trucks with aluminum drive shafts, not just TRX, for many years. Had a ‘15 Ram R/T with the driveshaft “clunk” issue. Never got it fixed as I got used to feeling like someone had bumped my rear bumper. Good to know the cause.

@GoatPilot04

It goes back much further than that to the beginning of the previous body style to 03MY. The cardboard core would come loose inside the aluminum tube and be all screwed up. That's why they have big warnings saying do not drop.

Hi Tyler, Thank you as always for the awesome content. So i took my truck last may 2023 and the clunk noise was addressed. Its now April 2024 unfortunately the clunk noise came back. any news or update you know about. Is mopar still using this "magical grease"? The clunk is very annoying and my warranty is almost running out, im worried it will come back few months down the line and I will be without warranty. Thank you Tyler.

Stumbled across your channel. I'm battling a "clunk" feeling in my front end on my 2023 Ram 1500 Laramie. I've swapped the end links out, I've changed the sway bar bushings, I've confirmed everything is tight up front. Dealership of course says they don't feel or hear anything but it drives me absolutely nuts. It's only when going over bumps at low speeds. Any ideas what I should check next?

I think I started feeling some kind of clunk at about 4000 miles. I now have 4800. Doesn’t do it all the time and it is very subtle. You can only feel it with your feet or seat, makes no distinctive noise. Does that sound like what you are describing?

Quick question for you, Tyler - assuming I have the driveshaft clocked in a position that I can unclip the boot clamp, do you think I'll be able to only un-bolt the front, and leave the rear bolts alone? Like, let the shaft rest on a block of wood while I pull the front section out and apply the new grease - or do you think that will just cause some additional headaches, and I'll be better off yanking the whole thing out?
@TylerPotter
Жыл бұрын
I just tried doing this on a customer truck at work last week and even up on the lift there is just not enough room to get the front part of the drive shaft to slide off. So I ended up having to pull the whole drive shaft. Thanks for the view!
