This and Rocky IV in 1985. Sly owned the game as an actor and filmmaker. The original FB was always psychological with action and drama. But these sequels turned Rambo into a major action hero of the era. Sly was in peak physical form. Between the gym and working with top-notch combat experts. For writing part 2, Sly Stallone on one side made sure that the character remained flawed. James Cameron on the other side added the more visceral mode of Rambo's skill and bada**ery. One of the first Rated-R movies to produce toys, video games, lunch boxes, bookbags, etc. Followed by an animated series in 1986, "RAMBO:The Force of Freedom" (65 episodes). Action packed, not too violent and a bit edgier than G.I. Joe. Glad you like this one. The next 3 installments really go hard. He teamed up with the director of FBP2 for another classic. COBRA (1986), gotta check out that one.

When First Blood was first released, that was the title. There was no 'Rambo' in the title. When the sequel was released 'Rambo' was in large bold letters, and the movie became a phenomenon. It was Rambo this and Rambo that. You have no idea just how big and popular it was.

The Vietnam war was about uniting the South and the North under a communist regime. The U.S. got involved because the North was being backed by China and the Soviet Union - that's why Russians are in this movie. You've mentioned playing videogames in the past, I had the videogame of this on a cassette tape for my Commodore 64 (yes i'm old). It actually took longer to load the game than it did to complete it! lol

Tonally this film is a total departure from First Blood, more comic-bookish and less realistic. It paid off though, with this film making twice the box office of the first. Still today, when people think of Rambo, they think of images from this film and not the first. Stallone had a double whammy in '85, with both this film and Rocky IV (the most successful entries in their respective franchises) being released.

It's interesting you brought up the novel. In the novel, Rambo (his first name is never actually revealed) is a tragic villain. He racks up a rather impressive body count before Captain (not Colonel) Trautman shoots him. The novel is a tragedy, because the war turned Rambo into a monster, and while Teasle is no hero, he's not quite the Gestapo wanna-be portrayed in the film. First Blood went for a different aim. It was a novel against war, but not in the hippie maggot reasoning. It was more of an Anti-Warhawk novel, explaining WHY we shouldn't be sending our boys to fight other peoples' wars.

1. Best of the bunch. 2. The Soviet Commander/Steven Burkoff also played the heavy in "Beverly Hills Cop". 3. There's a must watch/share with Sly and Kurt Russell called "Tango and Cash" where a cop says to Tango and says, "He thinks he's Rambo." Tango/Stallone says, "Rambo, is a pussy"🤣 4. Charles Napier/Murdock😇 also played Lt. Boyle in "Silence of the Lambs" 5. Co/Julia Nickson could get it. 😍🥰😋 She tries too hard on that accent though.🙄 6. I'd be pissed too if I were being set up for failure. 🤬

Fun fact: In the book by the author who has written the first one based on which the "Last blood part 1" was made, the commander of the camp that Rambo at the end sniped with an arrow was the same one that ran the camp when Rambo was tortured in 'nam during the war.

The sad truth, we left a lot of vets there, and most of all are dead by now, and we could have got them. There's actually a better movie than this, same situation called, Uncommon Valor!! John McCain was a pow but spilled his guts and ratted on units. He comes back here, a so called war hero, marries into money and power, becomes a senator. He could have got pows released many times but didnt. He knew they would come back here, and rat him out. So he left them there, to jeep his money power and Senate seat! John Wayne also did an excellent Vietnam movie, while having a lung removed for cancer, the Green Berets! I don't know when Terminator was being wrote or was out already, but Cameron helped him write this!😮😮😮 40 years of Rambo and Rocky. All the top stars of the day, passed on this role! And Stallone ends up writing and acting and directing most all of them! Not sure if Terminator was being written at the same time because Cameron is so prolific and would write 2-3 movies simultaneously, but Cameron helped Stallone write this!😮 And as we all know , Cameron does sequels like no other! Avatar, Aliens, Terminator 2. Russian mig choppers were badass in the day and still are! Noted in Top Gun Maverick! But what happened to vets from Vietnam, u can thank your government media social media big government big tech social media Hollywood big education, for what happened to them.

As exaggerated as the stories of 2 through 5 get they try to ground it all in a lesson of morality and the reality that you can't live this life without pain, loss, sadness, and loneliness. Death brings death or a more known way to say it is "live by the sword, die by the sword".

When this came out, it was only 10 years after the Vietnam war. The issue of the Vietnam P.O.W's was still a pretty big topic. Especially our governments many lies & failures. Nothing compares to the 1st one. However, even the most bombastic one deals with real issues of the time while showing Rambo's humanity. Also, they are fun action movies:)

In the original novel, Rambo kills Teasle, and then Col. Trautman kills Rambo because he's dangerous and irredeemable. In the original intended ending of the first film, Trautman is holding a handgun point-blank on Rambo, but he can't bring himself to pull the trigger, so Rambo reaches in and does it himself. Commits suicide. Test audiences didn't like that ending, so they released the film with an alternate ending. Which left the door open for sequels. You can see the suicide ending in a dream sequence that Rambo has in Part Four. You'll find that, in some ways, each film in this series tops the previous one. Note: If and when you get to Part Five ("Last Blood"), please do the so-called extended cut (101 minutes vs. 89 minutes). The final outcome is the same, but the long version (which was the theatrical release everywhere in the world except the U.S., U.K. and Canada) gives more character backstory and better illustrates that Rambo is still fighting his PTSD. Both versions are available on Amazon Prime in some countries, including the U.S.

Great reaction, fun movie! Yes, this sequel didn't live up to the first movie. The third in the franchise ("Rambo III" 1989) was a silly shoot 'em up. But the fourth and fifth ("Rambo" 2008 and "Rambo: Last Blood" 2019) had better stories and dealt gracefully with an aging hero.

The U.S. didn’t lose, South Vietnam lost the War. The U.S. never lost a battle and pulled out of the War when we got everything we wanted at the Paris Peace Accords in 1973. North Vietnam continued to attack South Vietnam after Nixon was removed from office in 1974 and then faced no more resistance from the U.S. and defeated South Vietnam in 1975. South Vietnam was left high and dry. Also the Soviets and the Chinese aided the North Vietnamese and the South Koreans, Australians and U.S. helped the South.

@goldenshark3182 The political divide in the US was a big problem. Do you really think the US wanted to go in a full-on battle with USSR when they were huge super in that era? What would say to a stand-alone, Rambo prequel movie? First Blood painted a rather small picture of his time in Vietnam, reminiscing about Baker team. Now to watch Rambo and his only friends - his team - pursue Cold War missions, the trial, tribulations, and losses would be a tough watch. That said, it could give more info on those few he trusted most. Your comments…
