One thing to understand about the general context of the movie and the timeframe it came from, this was just after the Vietnam war had ended and Vietnam war veterans were treated quite harshly, many ended up homeless and suffering from various trauma and it wasn't unusual for such men to be socially shunned or treated particularly harshly by law enforcement. If anything Rambo was one of the first movies to show this attitude as being "wrong'.

Absolutely. This series is about the many social issues that surrounded a war that nobody understood, that just went on, and on, for almost 20 years. Great reaction guys! This movie was pretty much a sleeper hit, it grew and grew in popularity over time with cable and what we had back then called VCRs. The huge success of the sequel took the Rambo character to a whole other level, becoming a pop culture icon. I remember on my ride to work in the morning DJ's on the radio would play a comedy skit called " Mr Rambo's Neighborhood" which was a spoof on Mr Rogers neighborhood. My point being your movie does not get satirized unless its a big hit and Rambo 2 sure was, cant wait for your reaction to it. A couple of other Sly favorites of mine are Tango and Cash, an action comedy film and Cliff hanger, an action thriller film.

It’s the music you hear at the very beginning when he is visiting his friend. It’s softly played throughout the movie, it’s then played in a faster upbeat version when he rams through the car barrier, and then finally at the very end they play it with the lyrics. When you listen to the lyrics and realize that it’s the theme of the movie, the whole thing just hits different. Beyond chef’s kiss! This movie is a masterpiece!!

The police car jump, the stuntman broke his back. The Poncho he made was improvised and found just out there on the ground. And the scene where he fell down the tree branches was real. He broke his ribs so the pain you heard were real. (Not sure about the high jump, not sure who did that.) So this movie really blew up parts of a real town. This is from a Novel/Book, They Changed the ending for the movie.... Will Teasale, the Sheriff, is a Decorated Korea Conflict Veteran, which is considered America's forgotten war, So there is some animosity between Veterans of different wars. Art also served in Korea with Teasle..... Rambo didn't kill till he had no choice.... Experts have been surveyed and verified that all the things in this movie is possible and realistic. Reason he blew up the Gas Station and the Gun Store was to draw the police away from the station, where Rambo knew the Sheriff would stay...... Rambo's Speech at the end is so elequently worded and performed.....

Add a comment @TheTriumphbsa 0 seconds ago Rambo to the sheriff may also have been looked at as a 'dirty protesting hippie drifter'; because he had an issue jacket on with a flag and (for then) very long hair. He was also unwashed etc from being on the road. Not quite the proper buzz cut/clean cut young veteran. Small towns were actually more forgiving of the Vietnam Vets. I remember the news showing the hippie protesters yelling and spitting on returning vets at the airport like John says in his ending monologue; no lie. It was a very bad time for our military as it was a war fought by politicians to the most egregious and idiotic ways. Commanders in the field, instead of being able to change plans during larger engagements, had to get Washington's permission first. The ROE were so hamstringing (like they couldn't shoot at the enemy Viet Cong militia, unless fired at first) that morale was hard to come by in some units. Add to that a great deal of soldiers were draftees and forced into the military and war, and you get an idea of men fighting hard for their and their buddies lives, but were not volunteers for any of it. We won every major engagement, yet did not have any clear endgame. We fought guerilla/jungle warfare and tactics, with unworkable ww2 open European battlefield tactics that just didn't work. We lost men fighting for some hill with just a number on it; we'd take the hill, only to recieve orders to abandon it a week later. Our soldiers fought and died, or were wounded physically, and even the unwounded, certainly were mentally. PTSD wasnt considered with the seriousness we do today. There certainly weren't the programs for it like today. Another problem is you were in a firefight on tuesday; get ordered home, fly back for debriefing and you are out of the military on the following Tuesday. Zero time to decompress. Thanks; see ya' ! All the horrors of jungle warfare & they had zero plans at the top to even win? Yet the hippies and Left blamed vets as much as President Johnson and his egghead bean counter dolt, McNamera. Two weak politicians with zero experience, running a war. Uh huh... . You guys have grown up in a time of honoring our vets and putting them on a pedestal. Much of that came out of those long ago times, and the shame felt by the country and the decendants for/of how many treated the retu thing veterans.

Galth steaming is actually a touch of class. If you look at Rambo he steams too, and this happens because the weather is under 0 degrees (you can see it because they all steam when they breathe), and they sweated because of the stress and the action warming up their bodies. When Galth's collegues arrive, he doesn't steam anymore because he's cold now being dead.

For such steaming you need three things. Overly heated body, temperature below 15C degree and humidity in the air. This scene was in the narrow valley with a mountain stream surrounded by foreest and with low temperature, I would say between 5-10C degree. Rambo’s choices in what buildings he destroyed in the town were mostly practical from a soldier’s perspective. Blowing up the gas station gives the enemy (the cops) no opportunity to fill their vehicles, and blowing up the ammo shop limits their artillery. Blew out the lights to keep himself safe from snipers. Then focused on the police station (the enemy base). This movie opened a lot of eyes in the ‘80s about how poorly this country treated its veterans (Vietnam vets especially), and did a lot toward shifting the narrative of war away from the abuse and neglect of the soldiers for being *drafted* to fight in wars they didn’t cause and didn’t have any control over.

Not only did the US not "win" the Vietnam War, but it was not even a "stalemate" as some claim. The purpose was to prevent the spread of Communism, and specifically, stopping North Vietnam from taking over South Vietnam and going Communist. After the US left, the South quickly fell, and North created a united country, which has been one Vietnam for 50 years. It's gotten a little better in the last few years, but it was a repressive dictatorship for decades after, and to some extent, still is.

They’re making fun of the idea of Rambo fucking up a whole town for the sins of their sherif… WHAT DO Y’ALL THINK HE WAS DOING IN NAM? 🤣🤣

I love this movie, and your review. I was hoping ya'll would cover this one day, and so glad you both enjoyed it the way it should be. With that said, . I grew up in the Army. My dad did 3 tours in Vietnam, and they were treated very unfairly upon returning home. I know its just a movie, but It definitely covered the injustice of their unfair treatment. I agree with your point, I never thought once to myself during the whole movie, that Rambo should be dead. It just has a better flow when you don't overthink a movie. One of Sylvesters best acting roles.

Cool you guys gave this such a high rating. I saw it when it first came out on video tape as a kid and thought it was a superior movie. I still think it's the best Rambo out of all of them.

Most reactors followed the storyline and the action, both of you were making fun and making light of the movie till the end. First Blood was the first of all action military hero movies since then and more importantly brought attention to returning military veteran. Your assessment was a 180 in contrast to your reaction.

The anti vet sentiment was very common back then. Even Vietnam vets were anti war. Many long hair "hippy" anti war protesters wore military surplus clothing. There was a lot of civil, and family conflict. Small towns were not unaffected. With the war over small towns, and police everywhere often saw drifters and, hitchhikers with long hair, and unkempt clothing as a threat to bring that conflict. That continued until the troops returned from the First Gulf War in the early 1990s. The first troops arrived in Los Angeles, and had a victory parade up, and down Sunset, and Santa Monica Blvd. in Hollywood. I happened to be there visiting a famous news stand on Cahuanga, and Hollywood Blvd. nearby. The crowd watching the parade was mostly silent. I am from New Orleans raised in the French Quarter with Mardi Gras crowds. I started "Show Your Tits" when I was 16, and still a virgin. So I stirred up the crowd watching the victory parade the same way. Started clapping my hands to the beat of the chant "Give It Up. Give It Up". I directly encouraged the people nearest me to join in, and it swept the crowd. The parade circled the route several times. It was reported on national news, and in the following months it swept the country with numerous, and growing, and more elaborate military parades the like of which had not been seen in the US for decades . Unfortunately it encouraged the resurrection of right wing pro war sentiment. Which we still suffer today.

You two are so great to watch! I love the Rambo movies; your banter helped lighten the mood a bit. Interesting tidbit: I was mistaken as a child of Operation Babylift. My Mom was blonde/blue eyed, I resemble my filipino father black hair/brown eyes/olive skin.

This movie is the exact moment that modern action movies started. Before this they were all B-movie shlock like death wish or the various Charlton Heston crap that was being made. From Leathal Weapon to John Wick, Rambo is part of the DNA.

Newsflash: The National Guard are real soldiers who fight in actual wars. Think about that the next time you minimize their importance. This movie is about poor treatment of soldiers and you are doing just that.

Cam and Zay wouldn't intend on disrespect. I think it's a lack of awareness which most people have. Especially if you hear someone in your community is a National Guard but don't know what's involved. I'm in Australia, not familiar with National Guard , just heard that name before Maybe Cam & Zay could react to an information video about what is the National Guard

Cam&Zay there was a different ending to this movie where Col Trautman had killed John Rambo, but somehow he became a hero in this movie. N this was also based from a book where in the scene where he grabs the little boy in the forest Rambo supposedly had murder the little boy. Glad that U guys enjoyed this movie.

First Blood was the only Rambo I ever saw, ( I have it on DVD and Steel Book) and I saw it many times - it was so perfect I never wanted to see any sequels. For old timers it begins and ends in this perfect movie. As for the Sheriff hating him, he was a Korean Veteran who looked down on Vietnam Vets as Vermin.

Nobody was in the closed gas station. Small town. Nothing open after hours. Didn't have Internet then. No evacuation necessary. There was a time before 24hr open all night life. People were actually at home. I usually enjoy your reactions, but on this one, I don't think so. Your youth and inexperience is showing. It's your deal. You do you, but I'm gonna avoid these subjects on your channel. Just a bad vibe developing.

The book ends a little differently... Also the amount of times this movie got cancelled before it was filmed and the actors they were going to have play Rambo is interesting. I believe Deniro and Pacino were almost Rambo. I don't know if anybody would have done as good of a job as Stallone.

This was made just 7 years after the fall of Saigon. I remember the push to have a memorial created for the Vietnam veterans. Liberals said they didn’t deserve one. These men did what their country asked them to, and they were spit on when they got home. The time context of this movie is everything.

We will never know the hell that our veterans have gone through in past wars. That's why every time you see a veteran, just thank them for their service. Takes two seconds of your time and means the world to them. If you see them in a restaurant, pay for their dinner. it's the least we can do to say how much we appreciate what they've done for us😊
