I would look into plastering the exterior, something like hydrated lime putty and oil, give it a nice waterproof coating on the outside

Thanks bro. Thinking of using for foundation blocks on log cabin. To raise logs off ground. Do U think it would support the weight? Excellent video bro.

What should i do to protect the wall during rainy season? I would like to make a rammed earth fence but i live here in the tropics.

Building a bit of a roof overhang on the top of the wall will protect it well from rain.

@@thiscobhouse thats the option i was thinking too, another is to plaster it and wax after. But this will prevent the wall from breathing. Thats at least what they said...what do you think?

I want to see a real test bro....hammer the damn sucker to see the rigidity and tensile resistance!!! The caressing of your prototype doesn't prove anything. To create it , one must destroy it. Just saying.. !

please do a video of you kicking a smaller block. if you did that'd be so awesome (so i could see how strong it gets)

With adding a bit of sand, Portland Cement, I would like to see how it would load test under a commercial tester. How many pounds per square foot/per inch it would accept before breaking when hand tamped and not with machine tamping.

I like what you've got. I could take that info and add to it. What if we used vibration and a hydraulic press to increase the density? Also could add a stabilizer with color additives? If the forms had designs it would almost appear like the stone work in some of the megalithic sites. Just some crazy thoughts.
Well I started at your first. Cool to see how far you've come in such a short time.

You should look into MSE, or Mechanically Stabilized Earth. It's a layer of earth followed by a layer of non-stretching mesh. Grady from the Practical Engineering channel did a video on it. The strength is trulyimpressive.

From that same video, I wonder if Earthblocks could be improved by adding a facing system.

Either you need a larger overhang on the roof to reduce the chance of blown rain hitting directly. Or you stabilise it with lime or cement.

How heavy is the block of soil
@ltsallwood

LOLOLOL can't do that here in Indiana. we don't have this "earth" you speak of. We have invincible clay... 5-8 inches down below the grass, you hit clay... It sucks. Rain doesn't make puddles, it makes ponds.

That would be perfect for making adobe bricks. Just add sand, straw, water and a little cement as a stabilizer.

Earth buildings aren't destroyed by rain as soil doesn't 'wicker' water like cement does. When you pour water on a part of the ground, it goes straight down, it doesn't spread across. You can tell where water or liquid has been poured and where it hasn't If the eaves of the roof extend far enough, your house will never get wet

Yes you have to use cement as your will erode without it no matter how compressed it is
