Rammstein have riffs which are so simple that any other metal band playing them would sound silly. But they make them sound massive and catchy AF.

Yes man, finally Rammsteins drummer get his well deserved credit. He is so great at keeping the simple elements sound great. The drum sound from Sehnsucht is by far the most iconic sound, because of the industrial sound the drums had. I am pretty sure his drums were triggered back then and the mixing went into some programming. On the LIFAD album he went all in, playing many songs with double bass drums. He is a great drummer but does not get enough attention.

Chris Schneider Is one of the most underrated rock+industrial drummers. He's sharp, heavy af, he's able to be musical and original even when he plays very simple patterns. Rock solid, cornerstone of each and every Rammstein show. Great video and beautiful sound recreation. Hats off.

The drumtech of Rammstein once told me, how he needs to tune the snare for the live concerts to a certain (and pretty narrow) frequency range. Otherwise it will not be able to cut through the bands wall of sound. For this purpose he used a tunebot. With more and more experience, he started to challenge himself, hitting that exact frequency without the tunebot.

I was lucky as I got to see them in 2012 in Tampa during what was essentially their greatest hits tour. The drumming for that show I noticed was allowed more to breathe. There were way more fills and ad-lib stuff going on which was awesome. For example, during Keine Lust, I swear there was three times more double bass and tom stuff going on than on the record. It was just awesomeness! The drumming was on fire.

Excellent video! Rammstein has one of the most aggressive sounds of modern bands, this video is really helpful to understand how the drum kit works and how to get closer to it, thank you very much. As a final request, could you please make a video about some psychedelic/stoner rock band? That spacious drumming sound is so interesting and commonly underrated, that I barely see it nowadays... maybe Queens of The Stone Age drum kit? That would be awesome to understand all these bands and try to come to an interesting drum kit, the songs "My God is the Sun" and "I Appear Missing" could be a good approach but if you think other stoner band/song could be better for this matter please do it, after all you are the experts.
