Thanks to a couple of friend’s influences this will be my first year hunting with a crossbow, and I’m definitely going to stick with heavy fixed heads I can sharpen on high FOC arrows, just like I used with my compound and longbow. Stigma or no stigma, my 2 cents is I don’t think folks should have to make excuses for why they hunt with a Xbow instead of a vertical bow. I just hope folks hunt legally and ethically with what they’re most competent with and can STAY most competent with, given our busy lives. Thanks Scott! Please subscribe to help us reach more people! The R29 has a little more kinetic energy due to a longer draw length compared to the R26, but if you are putting good shots on deer then it will take them down no matter what broadhead you use. Good luck to you in your hunting adventures!

Good video man I have a question I just got a R26x and I’m wanting to get the most out of it So if I just use the stock arrows and a 100 grain broadhead I’ll be at 400 fps right So what your saying in this video is that that’s not enough to be consistently accurate and get proper penetration to get a pass through So you use the 150 grain to achieve better accuracy and always get a pass-through I’m just trying to figure out the point of using higher grain broadheads
@reviveoutdoors4him

Accuracy is equivalent on both. Penetration is what increases with that extra weight on the broadhead. Thank you for watching! Hit subscribe if you haven’t to help us reach more people!

A lot of people in the hunting community that compound bow hunt think they are elitist and if you do anything other than compound bow hunt it’s not archery or its the same as using a gun. Lots of insecurity people try to compensate for instead of celebrating their fellow hunters and supporting one another like they should.

@@reviveoutdoors4him Thank you for explaining 300 grain bolts is 400 w/ head. My R26X came with the .003 arrows. Ravin sells the .003 match grade lighted arrows. @@reviveoutdoors4him One last question. I too had an injury that caused me to switch from a compound to a crossbow. This upcoming season will be my first season with a xbow. I purchased the R26X because of how small and compact it is for a tree stand. Because this is all new to me with crossbows. If I understood you correct. You rather a 150 grain instead of a 100 grain broadhead and why?
@reviveoutdoors4him
Жыл бұрын
@@michaelhowell3193 yes, I use the higher grain because it penetrates better due to a higher front of center weight. I wouldn’t suggest going higher than 150gr because then the fps on the R26 starts declining rapidly.

Do you have to tune the Magnus Stinger broadheads or do they fly more like a field tip? I have looked at them and really like them but I don't want to mess with the tuning. What are your thoughts?
@reviveoutdoors4him
3 жыл бұрын
I didn’t want to tune them either, so I just screwed it in and sent some down range to try it out. They were exceptionally accurate without having to do anything else. If I were going to shoot longer distances than 35-40 yards then I would probably tune them just to increase the accuracy from an ethical shot placement standpoint, however, they were dead on at 80 yards without doing anything. Lol

Shot your fixed blade into a bag? Must have been fun getting them out. I have killed over 20 deer with the Rage Hypodermic and the Trypan. Shot through most of them but not all for sure. Biggest problem I have found with the Rage is the blades break or bend extremely easy. Probably cheap steel since they are plenty thick. Second I don't like taking sharp angling shots at deer with the Rage as I have has a few shots just skim along the hide and not penetrate to kill the deer. Still shooting the Rage some but I have been having good luck with the Sevr broadhead now. I shoot the Ravin R29X and if I shoot fixed blades they recommend shooting very small heads to keep them flying good at 450 fps.
@reviveoutdoors4him
3 жыл бұрын
Yep! I made the switch to fixed because I wanted to be able to take some different shot angles. I’ve let deer walk because I didn’t have a quartering away shot with the rage. I chose this fixed head because it’s smaller and has better accuracy compared to the others I tested. It wasn’t easy getting them out of the bag, but worth it going into the season confident with my setup.
