They still play with good intensity. When I hear new music from bands from my youth it's kinda like seeing old friends you don't often see, and what they're up to now. The memories I'll remember fondly forever and revisit often, and I can dig what your doing now, but I gotta go grab dinner for the family... we'll get together soon and talk about old times 85% of the time, and vaguely talk about what's going on now 15% of the time! I'm so sad and old...

I can't say I'm impressed with your comment when you fail to mention their first two albums. Let's Go was a fucking gem that changed punk rock for the 90s. The first album was played nonstop across every damn skate park back in the good ole days when it first came out. This album doesn't define "going through the motions," this album defines 20 years after the 90s and still dropping beautiful tunes.
@brasovraskon4697
9 жыл бұрын
WayTooDamnMuchSWAG At no point did I ever discount the merits of the first two albums, so you can stop shoving words in my mouth which is a disingenuous thing to do. I'm well aware of the impact of Let Go, thank you very much, I practically grew up with Rancid and spent what little money I have earned on countless live shows to support Rancid whenever I could. Now, pound for pound, those aforementioned albums are Rancid's finest hours and at their peak. You stack Honor... on the same level as Rancid 2000? Or Wolves? Get the fuck out of here. From the processed production, the lack of Tim's vocals, the same old chants and tired singalongs, there is no passion or life to this album. You don't have to agree wtih me, you like it, you like it! But many other fans are reacting the same way. Yeah it sucks, but not every band can sustain their peak levels. Yeah, Collision Course was good, but the rest... meh. Pardon me while I go spin Indestructible another time.

Rancid is Rancid. This is a Rancid album. I like most of it. If you don't like it, then go listen to Katie Perry. I liked it. I bought it. I've been listening to Tim and Matt since the OpIvy days when I was a teenager. My point is that these guys have been making music I like for more than 25 years and I respect them immensely for that. Is every song going to be a hit? No. Tim's hero in life is Joe Strummer (a good one to have, imho). Compare Joe Strummer's total artistic output to Tim Armstrong's... This guy has been on the road and making music to entertain us for more than 25 years... I've met the guys after a show, and they aren't rock star types, they actually like to hang out with the punks. Who else can claim 25 years plus of entertaining old punk rockers? I rest my case.

There are two or three songs on here that could have EASILY been on Wolves. If I can listen to a record front to back without skipping a track...it's got to be a decent record. I can do that with this. I too am nostalgic about seeing Rancid in the 90's, stage diving, feeling rebellious. My favorite Rancid album...no. My least favorite...no. Do I enjoy listening to it...yes. I am just glad they are still making records. There are so many bands from those days that have broken up or had members die off. I am thankful for new music.

I do not get what the problem was with Let The Dominoes Fall. I liked it. Was it my favorite, No, but it still was head and shoulders better than most music at that time. I actually liked Dominoes way better. A lot more diversity on that record, and really fun songs. This album is good, but it's more straightforward. A lot of songs are about the same length and have the same sort of vibe, which can get a little boring after a while. Still great to blast in the car while cruisin though.

I hate to say it, but I think Let the Dominoes Fall at least had better lyrics when the music wasn't as interesting as the old stuff. Musically, and lyrically, some of these songs are so hollow. There are some cool ones, but I just can't feel em. Evil's My Friend, Already Dead, Everybody's Sufferin' and Malfunction are probably the top tracks for me. They've had a really good hold on the ska think throughout their career but the punk side feels kinda off. "Grave Digger" does remind me of GBH, which is kinda cool. I don't think I have anything else to say, just my opinion.
@jdbankshot

your opinion is just plain fucked...& un-needed. this is pure gold, just keep listening. also, who made you judge & jury of good lyrics? who the hell are you, & what the hell have you done? "so hollow"??!? are you on the crack rock, sonny? if not, you got pataters in your ears.

This is a solid record. But I definitely agree with you. It's RANCID, and they were clearly inspired. All the songs are catchy, and that might be enough for the guy above me, but there's a certain raw emotional power lacking here that is present in their classic records. Hardcore RANCID fans will know exactly what I'm talking about. I'm the last fan who idiotically expects to hear WOLVES every time they release a record. But if we're talking gold here, ...AND OUT COME THE WOLVES, LIFE WONT WAIT and RANCID 2000 are pure gold. This album is not "pure gold". It's good, solid brass.
@OakRidgePunk777

Life Won't Wait is amazing. And I did say "It's just my opinion." No one has to believe me or care, but I hardly believe my opinion is fucked. I still love the guys and I'm glad that they're still goin for it. And if you're curious (or feel the need to bash it because you already don't like my opinion) my band name is Psychodynamic. We're on facebook and bandcamp but not on youtube yet. Feel free to have whatever opinion on it because any negative response will not stop me from writing and releasing my music.
@markwaters9456

One of the problems with reviews so close to release is that time often changes everything with how records settle in with us. It sounds great to me, but I understand that music is contextual. Nothing will ever beat Life Won't Wait for me because of where I was when it came out... But every record except the first without Lars is in my top 100 records ever. Well, Let's Go would be in my top 200. Anyway, don't let the guys who say "You're fucked for having an opinion" get to you. You're here for discussion, they're here to force their opinion on you, or just trolling for conflict.
