When I read City of Brass I was not into the romance either. I was feeling very 3 star or less about the book until the last 30%. But book 2 was a solid 5 stars for me, so if you're thinking about continuing, I highly recommend it!

The city of brass is the weakest of it's series and just a prolog in a way for everyone. I would've dnf it after it but since I already had the second one I gave it a chance and it was well worth it. The series really picks up from there! Both the world and politics get explored and every action actually holds consequences! I think you should give it a chance still! 😅

I’m surprised by the hate for Children of Ruin. But if it was the lack of characters to care about, all I can say is you will probably enjoy Children of Memory. There are a lot of people to care about in that book and the ending will tear your heart out. It made both my husband and I cry. (And we aren’t overly emotional people.) I have The City of Brass on my TBR this year. But I’m not into romance…so yeah, it might not be for me. My own list of disappointing books this past year includes Bookshops & Bonedust. It was so awful! Is it supposed to be YA? Because not only was the plot very basic, and the writing style barely competent, there was next to no interesting worldbuilding. I gave up on it halfway through and I really wanted to like it because I used to work in an indie bookstore that was in desperate need of repairs. 😂 But if Legends & Lattes is anything like this, dog of book, I’m dumping it in my “sell to a used bookstore” right now. 😅

I read The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon recently and it was also my first Stephen King book (found it at Goodwill). I would overall say I was expecting more, but I did enjoy his writing so I'll definitely be checking out some more Stephen King in 2024. I'm thinking possibly The Dark Tower Series, as I've heard nothing but great things.

You might want to read The Stand first, read either the unabridged or the original. A lot of his world is built with this book in mind. I can say no more.

@@libraryofaviking I don't normally read fantasy, but for a ebook for 99 cents, I don't mind supporting an indie artist. I know the struggles. I really only support and watch your channel because you are such a nice, positive guy. I bought it and will check it out, but it will have to have a whole lot of absurdist humor for me to like it.

Oh man I hated The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon. The main character is great but the book was a total borefest with very few horror elements for me. Major let down as I usually like Stephen Kings books

I just don't understand the hate for Children of Ruin, especially from people who loved Children of Memory. It might not be quite as strong as Children of Time, but I thought it was as definitely an excellent book. 🤷

Nice list but I just have to say that Ascension is my worst ranked (#65) book of the year. Full of mistakes relating to mountain climbing, geology, and the sci-fi elements spiral into silly monster territory. And don’t get me started on the ridiculous, kind of epistolary form, in which the book is written. Zero Stars from me. 😉

Great list! Of these, I definitely want to read The Echos Saga and The Empire of the Wolf. They both sound amazing. I will read Children of Time, but I dont plan on reading the other two books in the trilogy. Happy New Year and Happy reading!

I own first 2 books Children of Time and Children of Ruin. I'm hope i will find the time to read the first one but hearing the second one is not that great catches my curiousity to find out why. I'm almost finished reading The Cuckoo's Calling by J. K. Rowling. Depending on my mood will see what i read next but it will be either fantasy or sci-fi books that i have on my shelves.

I agree that Children of Ruin was the slowest in the series and yet it’s truly mind blowing to see how Adrian Tchaikovsky creates the communication system for the species in this book. I’d consider this novel leaning on the horror/ sci-fi end of the spectrum. If you didn’t like Children of Ruin you most likely won’t enjoy Children of Memory but in my opinion Children of Memory is the most brilliantly written and captivating in the series. Interesting Characters with a huge reveal/plot twist at the end
