I'm not sure whether you've heard of Steven Krashen's comprehensible input on KZitem, but it's worth watching. He has a strong influence on language learners, and he defines the ideal technique to learn languages through comprehensible input. At the very least, I would not put too much pressure on yourself at the beginning. Don't feel obligated to finish a book within a set length of time. Simply state, "Okay, I'll spend x amount of time attempting to learn. You will improve as you gain experience.

What where your favorite immersion resources last year? (or also this year)

Die Serie heißt きのう何食べた 😊 Klingt nach einer guten Idee.

If I were you, I wouldn't watch the shows you're immersing in anything other than the language you're learning, and if you have to for your bf, try and do your best to ignore the subtitles as German and Japanese are very different, especially the grammar. It doesn't matter if you don't know anything or understand much, just look it up when you see a common word or sentence. I wouldn't put too much pressure on yourself at first, like telling yourself I'll read x amount of pages. Just tell yourself I'll spend x amount of time reading.

Language is like a puzzle. Words can change depending on the context, such as me saying I've lost my contact lenses or I need to look up my contacts to call someone. A good book I would advise you to get is Remembering the Kanji Disclaimer. It doesn't teach you the pronunciation of the kanji, but ways to remember it through a story. Kanji do have meanings, and those meanings are not always words. Also, kanji can have multiple readings. It might seem confusing at first, but remember, it's the context that matters, like mom in Japanese. and the kanji is 母, so you think this kanji means haha. But mother Okaasan is お母さん so it changes to kaa. Just remember, kanji are more than just words.

Really nice video idea! My favorite Immersion resource so far, is Animal Crossing (or rather あつまれ・動物の森) New Horizons on the Switch with the language set to Japanese. It has Furigana, everyday life vocabulary and close to non Fantasy/made up words apart from the Villager-specific expressions. Also it includes formal and casual language. And because there are no real stakes, you can't loose the game because of the language barrier. Recommend it for N4 with good vocabulary knowledge and up to N2 learners. (I currently consider myself close to N3, apart from grammer). (Edit: I just saw, that you had it on your lists, lol, commented prematurely) Also just recently I started listening to the "Sayuri Saying"'s "Everyday Japanese" podcast. Apart from the strongly fluctuating lengths of videos (can be found on Spotify and YT), I really like it contentwise, it has lots of variation.

@@Seriinudesu Oh, I just remembered a KZitemr that I've discovered recently and really appreciate for his non-textbook explanations of words: "Kaname Naito". He's a Japanese native speaker with an impeccable English skill, and gives us context of when/how words/expressions are used in reality. This teaches one a much more profound know-how than textbooks can do, which I really enjoy. ^^

Hi Seriinu!! Just curious to know if you watched these shows with Japanese subtitles? (Like actively reading the subtitles while associating with the visuals and characters of the show). For someone like me who fumbles between N4 and N5 I would really like to know your way of understanding these show.

Hi, I always watch them with subtitles. If I want alone then I try to use Japanese subtitles when possible but when I'm watching with my bf we're using subtitles in German so that he can understand what's going on as well 😁 I watched "Good Morning Call" with Japanese subtitles when I prepared for the N4 and it was okay to understand bc you can also guess a lot of the things that are happening from how they react 😊 Slice of life/school themed shows are easier to understand that fantasy anime for example 😊 The first episode of Terrace House is also quite easy to understand with Japanese subtitles because there's a lot of introduction going on and stuff. I hope this helps 😊

Thank you Seriin. I will try to implement the same because I find it difficult without subtitles. And you are an inspiration for me to pursue N4. I hope you carry with new contents for N3 till N1 as you progress. As a fellow learner I am glad I found your channel. Sometimes when I lose motivation I visit your videos to charge up for learning Japanese. ❤
