I actually really like the idea of Death stalking people who were meant to die in an accident like these movies do. I think it's pretty clever even though it's a very simple concept. And honestly it stuck with me all these years the movies have been out. It really cemented the fact anyone could just walk out the door and be just *poof* dead. The franchise, as absurd as some of the kills are, really put all those fears on screen.

For the last 8 months, we’ve had logging trucks in and out constantly clearing land for the local park (the army owns the park, so they’ve hired a bunch of contractors). I have had to deal with these big trucks hauling a stack full of huge logs all up and down our 2-lane, hilly roads (Appalachia). I got behind one about a month ago and immediately pulled off on the side of the road and waited a bit and let traffic go on around. My husband was in the passenger seat and immediately knew what I was doing lol. (fun fact: the second movie was what we went to see on our second date back in high school) When we caught back up to traffic (there were about 4 cars ahead of us behind the truck), I noticed the car directly behind it was positioned far from it going slow lol. Even heard people at the local mom & pop’s grocery store talk about a “Final Destination moment waiting to happen” with how often they’ve been on the roads. It messed with a _lot_ of people, young and old.

To me, the scariest thing about death is that it can be unpredictable. So when a movie has an extremely elaborate setup for a characters death, its more of a slow anticipation of the death. Instead of a sudden shock that death brings. I'm sure a movie could setup future deaths super subtly so that they shock you when they happen. But these types of movies aren't attempting to challenge you, they're more of a rollercoaster ride to entertain you with a specific stand out feature to remember them by.

Man I feel like Final Destination is so underrated in terms of passion and interest. People always see it as some kind of ridiculous gorefest meant to be just all good fun but I see it in a more passionate light. The Final Destination movies are still masterful in atmosphere as well. The fact that the concept of Death itself allows you to turn a peaceful, fun and maybe even somewhat nostalgic suburban lifestyle period into a perfectly constructed horror story is fantastic. The premise itself is also genuinely unique and I don’t want the series to just be wasting away turning the story into satirical fun instead of taking advantage of its creative and now-iconic premise. People don’t give enough credit to this franchise as it deserves story-wise and critics are too harsh on it. I take this franchise very passionately :)

The premonitions in this one is awesome, and there are more within the group that get involved with this early on. In the other movies, only a few catch on to what's going on and the rest are usually just waiting to die. I not only like how more involved more of them are, but the connections they have to the characters in the previous movies. It really feels like a sequel in that regard. The other movies only reference flight 180 as a rumor, but the second one is directly connected to it.

I get that you were "just" curious. Still, to just waltz into someone's comment section going "What trauma? Have you seen someone DIE?" is wild. Especially since it could've been a plethora of things like abuse, ptsd from an accident or even neglect. To straight up jump to death as the possible source of trauma and expect a person to share that is nuts. lol "I'm curious" is not a good enough excuse for asking stuff like this. There's a time and place for everything and a MeatCanyon video about a horror franchise ain't the place to try and get a stranger to talk about their trauma to satisfy your curiosity. It's like asking someone with a mental illness who uses poetry as their outlet to give you one of their poems to read because you're "curious" or asking someone who writes regular journal/diary entries to give it to you because you're "curious". The fact that the log scene still has resonance as many as a couple of times a week throughout my life has easily made this one of the most iconic horror scenes for millennials and early Gen Z kids like me ('97 here) I might have seen five clowns and a handful of people in ski masks in my life but there are countless logging trucks out there just waiting to attack

I was 10 when Final Destination 3 came out, and was thoroughly traumatized when I caught glimpses of the movie playing in the living room. As I grew up, these movies piqued my morbid curiosity and made me the horror fan I am today. I still don't drive behind hauling trucks or ride roller coasters, and I was anxious of planes and escalators for years.

You mentioned the weird deaths in Final Destination 2 where they don't make sense. I posit to you the paradox of Final Destination 3: If Franky (the incel) didn't get on the roller coaster, then his camera didn't come with, which means nothing wrapped around the tracks to derail the car, so no one should have died. I've been thinking about this for years.

As iconic as the log scene was, the van with pipe in the beginning of the Descent will forever be the most terrifying realistic depiction of an accident like that I'll ever see. That is one of my favorite horror movies of all time to be honest

Just as a note, laser eye surgery is nothing like what was shown in final destination 5 the machine is bigger, the whole process is less open and way waaay quicker.

Final Destination 2 is my favorite because it tops so many aspects in this franchise. Best kills, best disaster sequence, best soundtrack, maybe best characters tied with the first, overall best atmosphere, I’m especially loving how much suburban-vibe it makes me feel. It is easily the most underrated and overlooked movie in the series

Im so happy you mention the log truck bit! The second movie was the first one I watched. And horrifingly enough, a couple years later or so I was on a trip with my mom (I was like....14 or so? 13?) And my mom had to pull over the car for some reason, dont remember why. We saw several cars and trucks pass then about 10 to 15 minutes later we were back on the road. Just a few miles down we come across a pile up, only a couple of cops were there. It was obvious it was fresh. And it included a lot of the cars and big trucks that passed us. We continued on but my mom and I looked at each other pretty nervously and all I got was near ptsd level flashbacks of watching FD2. Pretty creepy.

Man, the DVD for Final Destination 2 and 3 were stellar. 2 Had a CRAZY detailed breakdown of most of the deaths and how they showed you how people were going to die. For example, when the Dentist says "You've been having some pain lately?" and behind him you see the giant plane glass pass by. Or the douche bag from the beginning steps on a doll missing an eye, foreshadowing the ladder death. 3 had an interactive cut of the film and you could choose how people die. Continuity wise, one character technically survives the whole franchise because of this

SUPER pumped for that Saw ranking. I'd also suggest the ABCs of Death movies- it's 26 short films with each one assigned a letter of the alphabet to base the story off of. Other ideas: Child's Play, VHS, House of 1000 Corpses/Devil's Rejects/3 From Hell

I used to live in the city where they filmed Final Destination 3, or at least where they filmed the rollercoaster scene. They took down that rollercoaster a few years back, everyone was so sad. The Corkscrew was a fantastic ride, and so much scarier after seeing that movie.

my most vivid memory of final destination 3 is that there was a special feature on the dvd where you "decide their fate" and the only options you have for possibly saving them is either making it so they never get on the roller coaster in the first place (changing the coin flip) or later on you can ONLY save Incel McGee but everyone else dies no matter what

With that line-up at the start, you can really see the evolution of horror movie posters from the 2000's onwards. Like the first two had the boring "Here's the main cast with spooky lighting against a dark background!" that plagued the genre at the time. Then 3 has a legitimately good poster with dynamic lighting, and the cast are in the corkscrew part of a rollercoaster, giving it a built-in golden ratio spiral. And then the 3D craze kicks in...

"Death doesn't like to be cheated." meeting people who bargained for immortality with beings that could literally halt all death everywhere just to spite death when he ruins one of their bargains and thus loosing some of that succulent worship that gives them their power: "Do I accept the L, or get petty enough to go to war with a god?" I like to think there were multiple points in the final destination universe where everyone and everything was in immortal suffering because a being of absolute entropy decided to fuck with a god, and it got so bad at some points that some of the stronger deities literally just started to go a step further and literally start snatching souls from death and putting them in a new body, not all of them very well made, just to win. To the point where even stronger forces step in and stop everything like parents dropping in to stop a fight. All of this simply because death is portrayed as this utterly fatalistic and obscenely petty entity instead of a great balancer, or a welcome friend at the end of some suffering. Because out of billions if not trillions of souls, THOSE EXACT PEOPLE need to be dead when the lives of human beings are so interchangeable and infinitesimally small that literally anyone else would do. Yet, no, death would rather waste EVERYONE'S time AND money just to kill THOSE people. Like, what? This is the reason that I couldn't really get into the movie. I'd get it if the protagonists were marked by someone trading the protagonists' soul for something that they wanted, but nah, just "death no like cheats." Death ain't got the fucking time unless he was getting a cut of something, and why would he go through the effort of it all for a cut? He'd just go "Sure, fuck it, heart attack." like he's the death note guy. Nah, this is people unwittingly getting their soul traded and some eldritch being or demon coming by to collect. Boom, I already made every fucking movie way better, and now there's a hope of redemption if they can find who sold em. You could even throw some political commentary in there and have it be the richie riches selling souls, powerful dictators, the fuckin works. How the poop nozzle hole was nobody going in that route when writing?

I recently binged all of these because I was not into horror when they came out but I am now. (Also watching Scream, IKWYD Last Summer, Saw, etc.) You nailed it with 2 and 3. I did kind of love 4, simply for the looney-toons Nascar opening, but I was watching it on a low-def TV so I never made that 3D connection. I love trying to guess what rube-goldberg disaster culminates in the deaths.

Fun fact: The bit with the guy getting his guts sucked out is based on something that actually happened irl. Someone sat on the outtake vent of a jacuzzi in just the right way to form a perfect seal and *every. single. goddamn. safety system* failed which resulted in their guts being sucked out through their asshole. It was detailed in an episode of 1000 Ways to Die.
