I had this intimidating nightmare when I was six years (a lot of them revolved either about dinosaurs or tornadoes) where I found myself in an empty swimming pool. The room was very large, it was all metallic floor and walls, no windows, as it were an underground facility. Seeing that this here is a Subnautica KZitem channel, I want to address that this pool looked surprisingly akin to the one inside the precursor base in the game. But unlike that pool, mine actually had a Leviathan class predator swimming deep inside it. I saw a warning sign which I couldn’t really decipher other than the word „Basilosaurus“

Didn’t someone just find a jawbone from an ichthyosaur that they estimated to be over 90-100 feet? I’m probably wrong though. Edit: here’s what I found. “Together, the quartet returned to the Severn’s shores and searched for additional evidence. They continued to collect fossils through 2022, piecing together the animal’s lower jawbone that, when complete, would have stretched at least seven feet long. The team suggests this particular ichthyosaur was gigantic-at an estimated 82 feet long, it appears to be the largest marine reptile ever discovered.” I just looked up 100 foot ichthyosaur lmao

Keep in mind that 20 meter and 100+ ton individuals of O. Megalodon would have been rare, we know of quite a few specimens from teeth and the average would have most likely been 14-16 meters long and 40-60 tons. As for Shastasaurus sikanniensis, although it was quite huge, it most likely did not weigh 81.5 tons. That estimate is obtained from scaling up Shionisaurus popularis (as the species was originally thought to be in that genus), which was quite bulky for a shastasurid ichthyosaur. Most modern estimates put it at around 19 meters long and just over 40 metric tons. There were, however, larger ichthyosaurs, albeit fragmentary ones. Ichthyotitan severnensis was a Late Triassic shastasaurid that was likely around 25 meters long. Scaling up from other shastasaurids, that gets a weight of 60-100 tons. This species is known from two specimens of about the same size, but osteohistological analysis suggests that they were not fully grown. An even larger specimen has been tentatively linked to Ichthyotitan. Although it is very fragmentary, size estimates are anywhere from 32.5-37.5 meters long and 110-340 tons. This specimen may have not been physically mature either (although it was likely around its adult size). Although the larger sizes should be taken with a grain of salt, the average blue whale is 110 tons. Even at the lower end of the size range, this animal could have competed for the title of the largest ever. Ichthyotitan (and likely the larger Aust specimen) was thought to have been an active macropredator, preying on cephalopods, fish, and smaller ichthyosaurs.

Pro tip for the next time you need pictures of prehistoric animals. Add the word paleoart to your search. This will result in much prettier and up to date illustrations than what you used in this video.

I always carry a beacon on me, incase a leviathan comes, by shooting the beacon with a stasis rifle, i make sure the leviathan gets stunned without a chance of failure. No need to worry about missing it's head or worrying about the seafloor being out of reach, It's just gonna hit it and stun itself :) That's how i fixed the aurora without death, seaglide away :)

It's a shame that Dunkleosteus can't make it to Leviathans' reunion photo because of that one stupid (but unfortunately true) discovery that made our boy from a ferocious, badass-looking tank to a gold fish that is covered in rocks. Hell now even great white sharks can beat the shit out of Dunk.
