Very much appreciate your honest thoughts about the brand’s offerings! Thanks! I’ve always thought that Shay & Blue had this Jo Malone-esque thing going on with their scents. Now, it makes sense after you’ve mentioned that the owner is a former Jo Malone manager. As simplistic as some of these were, I did find White Peaches, Blood Oranges and Framboise Noire to be pleasant. I am, however, very much taken by the green, grassy, juniper-centric Dandelion Fig. If you still have it in you, I’d be curious to know what you think if that one. 😅
@dr.claire.perfume

I know what you mean about the Jo Malone feel. Simple in the main and they also use a lot of ambroxan. From your description, Dandelion fig sounds quite likeable. I love juniper. If I see it in store in M&S I will try it and see if I like it. Thanks for the recommendation and for watching ❤️

Hello Claire, I haven't tried anything from this house. I think I have only seen them on YT and it's primarily people talking about a gourmand they like from the house. I can't remember what it was called. It might have been the caramel perfume you mentioned Black Tulip? I get the impression that this house may not have been all you had hoped for. Dull fruit, soap and chemicals do not sound amazing. Similar to Jo Malone but perhaps? It's too bad you detected so much ambroxian in the fragrances. It can be unpleasant. I was surprised to hear the peach was your second choice as I had the impression you were not keen on peach in fragrances. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on what you tried. I don't think I will be in a rush to sample them as they aren't available in Canada as far as I know. Have a great day! 💛~ Jenn

Hi Jenn! I was really very disappointed with these. I think as well as ambroxan there are some here with synthetic woods which I find offputting too. Overall I would be very hesitant to say I enjoyed any but the top 3 here. I really thought these would be much better than they were. You aren't missing anything if they aren't available where you are 🤣 thanks for watching ❤️

Hi Tina yes! It can be really bad in some fragrances and cherry blossom was a really bad one for me. It's Sniff-Along Time with Claire:) I say this because I have the 5 bottle sample set and was able to sniff-along with you. I've had this set awhile and can remember not being very impressed with it compared to other English houses. So you've nudged me to take another go, so here is my current line-up, going from worst to best. Blood Oranges -- an orange doesn't have to be sweet for me, but I do not enjoy a sour one, which is how this comes across for me. English Cherry Blossom -- I like both Cherry and Apple Blossom, but this is only a so-so fragrance on me. Particularly since I recently acquired Guerlain's Aqua Allegoria Flora Cherrysia. Atropa Belladonna -- Disappointed with this one. It's a lost opportunity. She could have gone with fantasy notes to induce a dark, dangerous scent. Instead, it smells like a pleasant shampoo. Black Tulip -- I have to give this runner-up status, as I am very fond of early spring flowers as well as plum notes. But it seems to rather disperse after that into a kind of muddled ginger smell ( I don't know where that could be coming from.) Framboise Noire -- So, almost by default, in first place. It's a deeper scent and seems better blended and structured compared to the others. It has some character.

Interesting to read your general feeling of disappointment with these! When I first tried these back in December, I felt so annoyed and disappointed that I felt like I didn't want to review these! But then I thought, no I should. I agree that blood oranges is one of the better constructed fragrances, just not one that appeals to me. And yes, if Atropa belladonna didn't open as beautifully as it does, that shampoo drydown would put me right off. Black tulip just seems to remind me of things I dislike 🤣 framboise Noire is one of the better ones 🙂 I enjoyed reading your thoughts. Nice to know it's not just me that wasn't impressed.😂

I only have a few from this house, but I feel I want more from them all. It makes sense that the person worked with Jo Malone, I can see parallels. I do enjoy White Peaches, but Watermelon was disappointing, I wanted a stronger watermelon note.

Жыл бұрын
Yes, I was struck actually by the similarity too, I recently tried English pear and freesia and whilst that fragrance is many times better than Shay and blue fragrances, it still has a certain feel to it that makes me think of Shay and blue. I kept white peaches and actually recently finished the bottle, it's a lovely one for spring summer, very refreshing! I didn't try the watermelon but after trying so many, I think I'm done with Shay and blue. I actually wonder whether they reformulated some of their fragrances because I remember trying them in store a few years ago and quite enjoying some of them, maybe I tried different ones or maybe my taste just changed... I tried so hard with these in this video. I was testing them for a few months before filming, but they sadly weren't for me.

@@dr.claire.perfume the cotton flower accord, i'm guessing it is, smells as you would imagine... fluffy floral, bit ozonic, linen-y, bit powdery. A bit febreezey in the best way.
