The NFL put out a list for their 100th anniversary, and that list is the definitive list. It was outstanding. Nobody on their list was a bad choice. But I would have made a change or two. They included the people who are the no-brainers.....Unitas, Montana, Staubach, and Elway..they threw in the modern guys like Manning and Brady...then they added Marino, Favre, Baugh, and Graham. The length of the seasons differed as do the rules under which the game is played. (pity the Bears fan who thinks that the greatest QB in their history is a choice between Jay Cutler-stats- or Jim McMahon- SB win and never hears of Sid Luckman). Even Johnny U is a SB era QB and I wonder if this list simply included him a sop to history.

I'm a lifelong Colts fan, and I can tell you that you are mistaken. John Elway won games almost singlehandedly, and he did it for a DECADE. When he got a powerhouse team built around him, he won rings. But what he did prior was actually more impressive. He was the closest thing to a one man offense the league has ever seen. Peyton Manning could play, he was FAR too dependent on countless variables being EXACTLY the way he prepared during the week. That's why he would routinely beat the hell out of weak opponents, but would often fall back to Earth very quickly when he faced any actual defense. I've seen almost every game Peyton played, and I know...ANY semblance of quality defense made him look no better than Neil O'Donnell. John Elway is the gold standard, and people like Staubach and Montana and Johnny Unitas are the only ones who deserve to even be MENTIONED with him...

@@ADNelson-bb4do What is 'ridiculous' is trying to judge a quarterback based on statistics. Go ahead, try that, and guess what? The best are all playing either right now, or within the past decade or so, because numbers continue to improve over time. That's obvious. But it has little to do with improved quarterback play. Today's NFL makes passing much, much easier. I can remember a day when the main guy in the league with a high completion percentage was Montana, who ran Walsh's offense. The decade prior, in the 70's, the high completion guy tended to be Ken Anderson....who was running...you guessed it...Bill Walsh's system(back when he was a coordinator). Is that a coincidence? Of course not. Walsh's West Coast attack featured a lot of short, easy throws...so a higher completion percentage for the quarterback was almost inevitable. The same thing holds for the league, in general...having almost no contact on qbs, and especially on receivers, will continue to inflate passing stats. But it's kind of like boxing....people know Lennox Lewis and Mike Tyson, but nobody would call them the best ever, because you achieve GOAT consideration only when you can TAKE IT as well as dish it out. I don't think Brees would have lasted 3 games back when people like LT and Ronnie Lott and D.D.Lewis were playing. Terry Bradshaw and Patrick Mahomes should be on thls list and no Dan Marino or Steve Young. Bradshaw won 4 Super Bowls while Marino and Young only went to 1 each. I have developed a formula with which you can compare quarterbacks of different eras. First you use 16 different statistical categories to find out how far above average the quarterback is. Then you compare those numbers to the numbers of all the other greats. The 10 quarterbacks that are the farthest above average since 1947 are 10- Dan Fouts, 9- Steve Young, 8- Roger Staubach, 7- Tom Brady 6- Y. A. Tittle 5- Aaron Rodgers 4- Johnny Unitas 3- Drew Brees 2- Peyton Manning and the greatest quarterback of all time when compared to average of their own era is Fran Tarkenton. And Manning is the only one who is close.

Brady 7 is a complete joke
@bryanjones4444
3 ай бұрын
@@Bravo1078 Someone looking at naming a GOAT must first realize that football is a team game. My formula does give quarterbacks up to 130 extra points for team accomplishments. That fact brings Brady up to 7th. If he were to stand on his own personal play he would rank about 18th. When you compare how far above average he has been throughout his career to the other hall of famers and hall of famers to be he is rarely near the top of the list in any statistical category. The success of the Patriots throughout the years has been mostly due to the defenses.

manning played 50% of his games -a at least - in perfect domed climate. no snow, rain freezeing bones..at least for several seasons he had 2m all pro lineman, an all pro tight end, a twice league leading running back, and 2 hall of fame receivers. the 2006 playoff game comeback was a referee given gift.And the 2013 afc title game was pure luck. 2 early td passes because the Patriots linebacker responsible for coverage was a last second scratch. once the defense adjustred, Manning was terrible. Brady had to go on silent counts because of the crowd noise, but adjusted. 2 more minutes of playi ng time and the Patriots would have one. manning"s performance in the subsequent super bowl was perhaps the worst ever. .... NO- REPEAT, NO- COMPARISON TO BRADY. AT ALL...THE MOST IMMOBILE OF ALL THE 10 MENTIONED QB'S. PUT HIM IN THE TOP 20, NOT TOP 10. PERIOD. HIS PLAYOFF RECORD SPEAKS FOR ITSELF
