Not sure how you could possibly rate the first street fighter alpha over Alpha 2. Even with nostalgia goggles on, Anyone can clearly see Alpha 2 is superior in every way possible.

You know the CPS2 is one of the best arcade platforms when games like Eco Fighters and Marvel Super Heroes is at the bottom of the list. Capcom really was the king of Arcades. The CPS1/2/3 and Neo-Geo are forever going to be the platforms that gave me the most enjoyment in the Arcade and now at home.

For me, SFA2 is my favourite of the 3, and is up there with SSF2T and MVC as my top 3 Capcom fighters. I've never been able to quite put my finger on why I like 2 best, just personal preference. Anyway, I've been absolutely loving all these longer compilation videos Kim! Thanks for keeping us entertained on lockdown! Stay safe.

Cool review! I'd add that there are actually 42 CPS2 games. The 4 you missed were: - Vampire Savior 1 & 2 (yes, there are 5 unique games in the Vampire/Darkstalkers series) - Street Fighter Zero 2 Alpha (different from Zero 2 and Alpha 2. Thanks for the wonderfully confusing naming, Capcom!) - Super Street Fighter 2: Tournament Battle (unique from "New Challengers" in that it supported linking 4 arcade cabinets for a *drum roll* tournament battle). If you have any questions about CPS2, feel free to reach out. I actually own the complete 42 piece set :)
@joshthefunkdoc

For anyone who isn't familiar, Vampire 1 & 2 are just Vampire Savior with a few characters removed and the Darkstalkers 2 characters (Donovan, Huitzil/Phobos, Pyron) added back in. And Zero 2 Alpha (also called Alpha 2 Gold in the US) was an attempt to rebalance Alpha 2 for competitive play that didn't really work and never caught on.
@neondoublez
20 күн бұрын
@@joshthefunkdoc Vampire Savior 2/Hunter 2 also have some system changes coming from Savior 1 (like a new Dark Force mechanic replacing the original one, air chain combos limited to Dark Force too, it's harder to escape from throws by jumping - and they also made Oboro Bishamon playable and added a "secret character" of sorts called Marionette, although she's just a mirror match mode where you always turn into your opponent), although like Zero 2 Alpha those changes were mostly rejected.

Wonderful list, Kim! So much nostalgia pouring all over, it was an amazing trip through the catalogue of an arcade board I played a lot of as well =) Of course, I'd place a few games on different places, but it's like you mentioned, in some cases it all boils down to personal preference and experience with the games. I'd rank SFA2 higher than SFA, simply because it's one of those sequels that did everything right. I had already played and beaten SFA at the arcades (and loved it!), and I was oozing for excitement when I finally got a Saturn, and the first game I bought was SFA2. My expectations for an arcade experience were completely fulfilled, and more so. I can't say for sure that it's better than SFA3, although I do prefer it. MSHvs.SF was always my favorite of the 3 Vs. games, but my arguments for it are even flimsier than those for SFA2 ^^

Shocking you got rid of SFA2 on Snes, even as a kid when it came out it held its value, I remember even in 1998 unboxed used copies going for £15-£25 and the rare time I saw them in the early 00's it was at least £30 for a unboxed or boxed version. Not entirely true. For an individual release on a major home console, mobile app or PC no. But capcom officially sanctioned a "capcom home arcade" with beefy Arcade sticks and buttons to plug and play. It had AVP as one of the gamesWasn't cheap at £179 but not as expensive as some home arcades at £300 either. Bit cheeky as it had "final burn" which is MAME pirate software as the operating system! On that note a USB playstation or console pad is compatible with windows and Emu Paradise you can download a MAME and AVP ROM!

Very nice to hear your views of the games of the CPS1 and CPS2. They're such good arcade platforms, and I was just doing some reading up on them and playing a bunch of CPS games specifically a few months back. As I mentioned on the last video, I'm a big fan of Dynasty Wars, so that's one I go back to a lot. I also finally played the Mega Man arcade games. CPS2 is interesting because there's so much quality that good games will end up low on any list. I didn't love the direction Capcom took with most of their fighters starting with the CPS2, but they're well made. I became an SNK in those days. So that eliminates a lot of CPS2 games for me, but it's still a great hardware platform. Battle Circuit, Armored Warriors, and Alien vs. Predator are all fantastic beat-em-up games that I love. AVP is interesting because of the large move set and standard, limited projectile weapons. It's fast paced, but more defensive than other games. It leads to amazing scenarios where my character has no energy left, yet its still possible to manage a huge swarm of aliens and survive long enough without taking any hits to reach some food. I've been surprised by some of predicaments I've gotten out of. I mentioned Mega Man in the CPS1 video. I read about it and it appears that the CPS2 was the lead platform, so I agree with your decision to save it for this one. I believe even the Q-Sound logo was left in the ROM for the CPS1 game. The CPS1 version loses some voice samples, but it mostly the same. While I thought Capcom could be hit or miss with FM synthesis, I like the FM versions of the music in the CPS1 version and it's nice to be able to choose between the two versions of the game. I think the CPS2's PCM sound is great as well.

I actually love playing "Night Warriors: DarkStalkers' Revenge" just a bit more than "Vampire Savior" due to gameplay being much more simpler to pull off special moves while also having quite a bit of nostalgia after playing it on the Sega Saturn. Not only that, but it's also several times superior to its predecessor "DarkStalkers: The Night Warriors", so I'm pretty disappointed that you would only place it as Number 25 on your list.

Thank you for recognising the awesomeness that is Gigawing! It and Progear saw plenty of attention from me in the arcades, but while I thought the theme and audio-visuals were superior, the former had it down for much more satisfying and addictive gameplay. The placings of the SFA series are kinda inverse for me, though. Sure Alpha 3 is certainly hard to beat in content and gameplay variety, but the first two (even if I think the first one's name describes more a dev stage than a prequel) are just works of art compared to it.

Awesome list, but the first Darkstalkers higher than the second one? That's like saying that plain vanilla Street Fighter II is better than Super Street Fighter II Turbo. Very similar gameplay systems with more characters, improved balance, much better special moves system, much better music... Just weird. Nostalgia was way too strong there! I do agree with placing X-Men CotA above Marvel Super Heroes though! MSH didn't expand the roster enough and removed some stellar CotA characters, so I always considered it a sort of side game instead of a true successor to CotA. But still, amazing list, and I am glad that you're covering the legacy of the amazing CPS systems! Oh, and yes, Jon Talbain is the best Darkstalker... until Jedah, but Jedah came later!

I also think the VS games are overrated and OTT, and prefer MSH and COTA, in the same way SFA2 is better than the overly flashy SFA3. Order Of Magnitude - The Paranormal & Personal Ah mate that sucks. I’d been collecting since the mid 90’s so had amassed a fair bit but needed a quick sale. Kept a few bits (3ds collection, Xbox 360 and thank god my arcade stuff and crt’s) but let the lot go for £20K which to be fair was way less than it was worth and certainly way less than that lot would be worth now even 3 years on. Lesson to be learned = don’t get married!

Great video. But nobody talks about STRIDER 2 from the arcades. A great game.

XvSF or MvC are my two favorites. And it still bothers me that AvP never got a home release.

It’s quite unusual that you put Mars Matrix so low and yet gush about the reflect dynamic for Gigawing. Mars Matrix effectively refined the reflect mechanic by making it more useable than in Gigawing. It definitely plays better for it. It was even made by the same company.

SSF2 Turbo and SF3 3rd strike are still absolutely essential fighters. I know Alpha has it's fans but i've always found them to be a bit stodgy in the gameplay department compared to the previously mentioned games...plus i'm not a massive fan of the overly anime inspired art design.

23:28 Arguing about home ports might be a bit outside the point for this video, but I was surprised a big Sega fan like yourself didn't mention the excellent Dreamcast and especially the Saturn port of SFA3, but plugged the inferior animation-starved PS1 and 480i/p only (no bueno!) PS2 SFA collection. No 240p support on the PS2 port is a deal breaker for the real CRT experience and the Saturn port is superior for this reason alone (I don't care how the ps2 collection might be better in other ways). I understand you might have played those particular versions back in the day and have nostalgia for them, but I still want to see credit be given to the arguably superior versions.
