THIS! Imagine the possibilities, Give us a weapon that turns this game into a fist-version of Sekiro as well as a combo fighting game One handed, R1 allows punches that can be combed with R2 kicks, both can be charged to make unique combos, L1 allows a Sekiro style parry and L2 allows a flurry of kicks or a stomp depending on how long it’s held Two-handed allows even more combo potential, the idea being you are now all offense, forgoing the parry, as now the bumpers are assigned to each of your fists while the triggers are your feet, you can combo the attacks up to five times and the combo changes depending on the order and the final hit of the combo changes as well, imagine just a flurry of kicks that ends in a huge wind-up punch, or straight up the Lone Shadow kicks combo. The best part? Two handed can stun like a great sword but is balanced out by a combo ended having long recovery, knock back and stamina cost

40% Holy resistance plus her constant healing made it tough to enjoy Malenia. I was eagerly anticipating that fight until I realized she's practically immune to the types of damage I did. Seemed artificially difficult for a pure Faith build. FROM also has nothing like a "Raw" affinity in Elden Ring, so I couldn't just use a different type of damage by enchanting a weapon. One thing I discovered helping my friend fight Mohg after respecing into a Caster to get ready for NG+ is that Mohg's Big Blood attack actually isn't infinite range. If you are far enough away (though I doubt that a melee up in his face when he starts it will get far enough away in time) you just avoid the whole thing. And he doesn't move once he begins casting it.

More in-depth advice for Malenia since I know I wouldn’t have minded knowing these things when I fought her: Malenia is weak to bleed and fire. As such, Rivers of Blood is an excellent weapon for Dex/Arcane builds like myself. Strength/Quality Build, just use Bloodflame Blade, I guess, because I’m not aware of a comparable weapon. Bleed/Bloodfire/Godskin incantations such as Swarm of Flies, Bloodboon, and Black Flame are also highly recommended. For non-magic builds, whatever arrows/bolts/throwing weapons you can find to accomplish the same effect are fine, just watch that stamina and be careful not to leave yourself open.. She’s also weak to Frostbite, so builds with the ability to use that effect will also have an easier time than those without. Her semi-instakill Vergil copycat combo, while incredibly dangerous, can be mitigated if you book it to the furthest possible point from her as quickly as possible. She’ll likely still get at least one hit in, but most builds with an at least decent amount of HP (~1000) should be able to survive. You can also dodge it if your brain isn’t an under-inflated beachball, but godspeed you on getting that timing down. Parrying her, while possible, isn’t really recommended since only every third parry is viable for a reposte. The other two will trigger a backstep instead. The Scarlet Aeonia (scarlet rot flower) she uses at the start of her second health bar and several times thereafter is *very* exploitable for ranged attacks *cough* swarmofflies *cough* dragonice *cough* due to its stupidly long recovery, so just book it to the left and behind her, then let loose. Her Scarlet Rot Shadow Clone Jutsu is extremely annoying and the clones probably last longer than you’re thinking they do, so just try not to have her use that attack. If she does, just do your best to dodge their swipes and thrusts while keeping an eye on Malenia for her dropdown attack. Her False Yamato combo gains a Scarlet Rot effect, as if she used a Rotten Grease on her sword, but it’s largely the same attack as her first phase. Just make sure to watch that Scarlet Rot bar. For Mixed Physick, I recommend Speckled Hardtear and Crimson Crystal Tear. Crimson Crystal Tear because no duh, Speckled Hardtear because Scarlet Rot isn’t fun and I don’t have the recipe for Preserving Boluses. For Talismans, I recommend the Mottled Necklace, Immunizing Horn Charm (Both for staving off the Rot), Flock’s Canvas Talisman (if using incantations. If using sorcery, use the appropriate counterpart), Erdtree’s Favor (Because extra stamina and equip load), Viridian Amber Medallion/Arsenal Charm/Great Jar’s Arsenal (Replacement for Flock’s Canvas/Sorcery Counterpart, if your build isn’t a magic user). Spirit Ash (specifically mimic tear) can be extremely helpful if you don’t mind the hit to your pride. Finally, don’t get greedy but don’t be a coward, because Malenia exploits both.

Malenia is honestly my least favorite hyper difficult from software boss. I usually love the beatdown and success I get from these bosses. Beating orphan, isshin, Friede, midir, gael, all of these got my blood pumping and giddy for the next round. Malenia on the other hand I dreaded. All of these bosses have difficult but fair movesets. Malenia felt like a crapshoot. If she ever used the multislash move it felt completely random whether I could survive it or not. It felt unfair. Most of my best attempts were just the ones she didn’t use it more than once or twice. The healing is just strait unfair. Using a shield lol, have fun as she heals back to full. Get unlucky and she multislashes alot, lol have fun as she drains ur resources and goes back to the start of the fight. Eventually I respecced into a frostbite bleed claw build with bloodhound step. Frostbite lowered her aggro enough and bloodhound step allowed me to more consistently avoid the multislash. It honestly felt necessary to use. About 7 attempts with that build and I beat her, but fuck did I not enjoy that experience. It felt unfair, unfun, and less that I beat her with my hard won skill and more like I got lucky. I would have much preferred a higher health pool to the heal mechanic.

and the real winner there isn't even the froost and bleed(although they help a ton) it's the bloodhound step because really, it's just that one move that is bs(and i'd say the rot clones in phase 2, but maybe that's just me), if she didn't have it no one would need to respec or use AoWs they would otherwise never use. i still chose to not use it and used raptor of the mists instead, while still wasn't dodging it normally, at least it felt somewhat fair with how broken bloodhound step is... but in the next playthroughs i'm not gonna be as magnanimous with her.

@@joshualouw9506 big note: unlike player summons ash summons don't seem to increase the boss health bar, to add onto that, ash summons don't deprive you of the usage of a horse unlike npc summons, and remember there's also A TON of dungeons in the game just to let you get upgrade materials for the ash summons; while they've been put in as a sort of difficulty mode slider of sorts* (especially mimic tear, the fact that is the only summon that got nerfed while also being one of only 3 summons that doesn't use fp to be summoned makes it clear as day it's the defacto easy mode of the game), all this as well as the fact that most enemies in this game have far better AI against multiple opponents compared to previous games(and if you played as much co-op as me trust me, you'll be able to tell that's the case, especially on bosses like the dragonkins and golems) makes it clear that the devs want you to use ash summons, so don't feel bad about it, at least on a first playthrough, in fact, actually go and enjoy it as much as you like, because using ash summons on a new playthrough where you already know the ame will make the game feel easy af, whereas doing it on a first playthrough will still leave you with generally a good experience depending on your summon of choice and gamepath even if slightly easier than in solo, but doing it on a second playthrough when you already know all the good strats and all the enemies movesets will make it feel like a joke. -signed, proud oleg user *to an extent, as many ash summons are near useless too

Watching this and your "unbalanced difficulty" video really made me realize I had a lot more fun with the "easier" bosses. I felt accomplished when I beat them. Not because they were easy, but because they felt more fair. Bosses that instantly get out of an attack, leave no down time, and attack again are not fun. If some of the "easier" bosses had some more HP I think they would have been challenging but fair. The fact that most of these bosses almost require a summon if you want to beat them in less than 30 tries just feels wrong in a series that is about challenging, but fair, 1v1 fights. I died dozens of times to some of these "harder" bosses before summoning others. The result was usually that we would get much closer to a win due to the aggro being split. Winning after summoning 10 different people did not give me that sense of accomplishment, because it felt like I had to summon or waste an entire weekend on the boss. I never felt the need to summon in any other Souls game, rather summoning in those games felt like a way to just beat the boss faster if I wanted to get to a certain item/spell/whatever. Also I personally dislike how many bosses are bigger than my screen. I died so many times because I could not see the boss attack because their arm was off my screen. You can use sleep jars on the Godskin Duo boss. I did not know those items existed until I looked at the Duo's Wiki page. Personally I would not rank them that high if you use those items.

maliketh has gotta be the boss i am the most conflicted about. his first phase is close to my least favourite fight in the game, beaten only by fire giant and godskin duo. as someone who mostly uses strength builds, he is quite literally too fast to punish for most of his attacks, you have to get lucky if you don't wanna trade hits and enter phase 2 with no heals. Maliketh, on the other hand, is damn near my favourite fight in the game, second only to radahn and radagon/elden beast. his attacks require skillfull dodging and getting hit can be detrimental with the health reduction and life drain debuffs, but if you learn his moveset then you can punish most of his moveset with a small window to dodge before he starts his next attack. it really reminds me of the genichiro fight atop ashina castle in sekiro, whereas instead of constant deflection and attacking, its constant fast paced dodging and punishing with just enough time for a str build to not have to trade every single hit.

My biggest takeaway from this is that split aggro in this game is a design choice the devs embraced. It wasn't an option in Sekiro so you didnt have too many duo/trio bosses. iirc only the guardian ape had one. It was NPC/player summons only in the previous soulsborne games so it wasn't as pronounced. You have an entire ashen summon mechanic that the devs painstakingly put effort into for Elden Ring, so I think they designed the bosses with them in mind. Even the non duo bosses with relentless combos come to mind since they can switch targets mid combo. I as an average player will probably never not use them as a result.

Yeah honestly this game is probably the hardest with summons compared to the other games with summons, the bosses in elden ring are a alot smarter and more designed around fighting multiple foes, some bosses are pretty trivial tho, as someone who likes to help other players in coop I've seen morgott get stomped by wizards free to cast as the melee chars keep aggro.

In my mage run, I think Rykard was easily one of the hardest bosses. F or most run, Rykard is as simple as getting the Serpent Slaying Spear and going to town with its special weapon art while tanking hits. Since by the time you fight him, you'll have enough vigor to tank most attacks. Even without using the special weapon, the fight is okay. However, as a mage, you will usually not have too much point invested into vigor since your stat spread is not spread out between int, mind, vigor, and then a bit of endurance. It also doesn't help that since most mages have pretty to no investment in endurance, they can't afford to equip tankier armor unless they want to fat roll. This makes it so the first phase's fast and high damage attack is an absolute nightmare to fight as they basically mean Oneshot if hit. The second phase was no better, with the lava and the number of things you need to watch out for to not be one-shot.

Anyone who struggles with radahn I suggest exploiting his ai flaw before his first power up. If you are behind him when he decides to power up he’ll try to face you and will begin to circle, locking on to him and always running towards his rear will trigger the ai loop where he continues in circles as long as you manage stamina and use well timed running attacks you can keep him in permanent phase 1 used a +8 uchi at level 40 after I was done scouting his moves, got bored and tested the exploit as I noticed it during the many repeated runs against him also tried on a lower level character using a broadsword still works just takes longer. Note - there’s also a chance near the end he will stagger for a repost or whatever it is in this game but as long as your damage is ok he should die before powering up if not he’ll power up then probably jump to the sky.

The strongest build I've tried in this game yet is the Blasphemous blade with 80 faith and 51 Poise. Using the Ice Spear ash of war against Makar and Mogh to avoid their massive fire resistance. With this build you have insane damage output at range + you heal. It's incredibly strong. With this build there are 3 bosses that definitely stand above all others. 3. The Fire Giant, he has really good resistances and massive hitboxes. It's actually pretty difficult to hit the ankle and the hands with the ash of war. 2. Malenia, this is probably the highest octane fight ever. 3 of your hits knock her down and let you get a fourth. Each of her phases dies in eight. Phase one is the risky one, she can quick step your attacks and if she sttagers you out of attacking, you are dead. Waterfoul kills you always unless you are far away or know how to dodge it. Phase two is pretty easy because of the guranteed hits during scarlet aeonia. Even if you nuke her the battle is so intense, is like fighting regular Malenia condensed in a minute. 1. (by far) Radaggon and the Elden Beast: Radaggon is probably the most fun fight I've had in this game. He has fire weakness, so you nuke him, however he teleports, he parries and he knocks you out of the animation. It's a fight about 2 forces of nature throwing massive hits at each other. Elden Beast is acceptable, it acts more like a fish thats trying to escape that like an actual boss. If you are close, you win. However the slipery bastard pulls out every trick in it's manual to keep you away. Dishonorable mention. Morgott died in two hits. I was using a level recommended guide, that basically told me to explore all the map before Llendelyn. The Capital was at the perfect difficulty, but the low HP and the Fire Weakness made Morgot lumber for my sword.

Killing it was the most triumphant moment I swear I've ever had in any game ever, period. Holy. Shit. The reason this boss felt like such a reward to defeat though, is my friend who was trying to alleviate my stress by looking online for strategies, was telling me that basically, online was telling me to cheese her, i essentially needed to COMPLETELY respec and delete the build I've been working the entire game towards, just for this. I said "no, fuck that, I REFUSE to completely respec and admit defeat", so I sat there for hours, downloading this entire boss fight into my BRAIN until i learnt how to beat her, MY WAY, without the stupid online cheese. THAT is a reward in of itself worthy of note, not just the fact it's tremendously hard. I'd become too attached to my build I'd worked towards the entire game, to just throw it out the window for a single boss!

Lengthy reply ahead lol, just a heads-up: @@vinnicinhus44 a lot of people are doing it with specific build types that would quite literally mean I'd have to respec my entire build just to exploit the cheese strategies they've found. In my opinion, if the solution to a problem like that is to literally respec your entire build, it's not a fair one, by any means, in a game that encourages variety. Hence why I found my own way to do it, using my own setup because fuck that. Overcoming adversity is one of my favorite feelings in this series, and having to essentially cheese to win, just to save myself from stress really spits in the face of that. Yes, id have been less stressed doing it, but that isn't the point. It would completely rob me of that feeling, making the entire fight seem worthless to begin with; I just do what some guy online said kinda deal, rather than myself. My build has before and since carried me through every single boss in the game (think I'm only missing a couple now after 140 hours of throughly checking everywhere), so why would I throw that away, a character I spent (at that point) 100+ hours crafting, just to alleviate stress. As much as I firmly believe the boss needs to be tweaked, due to the insane imbalance without specific cheese strategies, I also have to say that the feeling I got from beating it my way was honestly the BEST feeling I've ever gotten from overcoming a challenge in the game. That's something I'll personally never trade. That being said, you are well within your right to do so; my philosophy on games in general is to play how you want, to get the most enjoyment out of it, as long as it's not to the specific detriment of others. So cheesing to save the stress is completely fair game imo if that's that's what wanna do.

@@NickPoly17 Just finished my first playthrough as a str/faith build with no summons (except the summoning npcs for Radahn which I plan to make up for in future runs). I found jump attacks were my major go-to for the final stretch of the game. They do a lot of poise damage and the landing animation actually makes some boss attacks miss. I was using bloodhound step ash of war by the time I got to Malenia, so that helped me get consistent real quickly with her special move that has been giving people trouble (didn't even realize this until I returned from my internet exile to avoid Elden Ring spoilers). I found myself having more trouble with the quick flurry attack she does when she disarms her blade. I adopted a strategy of running towards her and quickly making a circle to see if I bait out an attack from her. If she didn't, I was good to go in for a jump attack. If she did a counter attack, it would always fly over me. I noticed her AI in her first phase actually had her back off from me if I kept pressuring her like that. The final bosses of the game weren't too bad for me, I started using the incantations that increase defenses for certain attacks. There was one for holy damage negation I found worked very well for Radagon and the Elden Beast. You just have to be careful not to get hit by their melee weapons. After 16 hours of fighting her (not straight, I rage quit twice with 0 shame) I figured out the 2nd and 3rd attack of Waterfowl could be dodged by dodging forward-right and then towards her before she makes your camera flip respectively. I still had not figured out how to avoid the 1st attack when I finally killed her. Its very at-odds that the fight is designed around her being staggered, but then she's able to hyper-armor at will mid-attack. Most of her attacks with hyper-armor I don't mind, they either have a wind up (like the stab/grab), or hit you for (relatively) low damage (the sidestep slash). But if she leaps up, I have 0 clue where the dodge point is for that. On top of phase 2 having four different leaps (only one of which is visually distinct from waterfowl), I had a mini-heart attack every time she leapt, only to sigh in relief when she just slammed the ground/sent her ghosts at me. My kill on her she only did waterfowl once in phase two and it was the final blow to my mimic. After that I was able to destroy her final 1/4th of her hp by dodging everything and praying to god every time she leapt into the air. Overall, I rank her difficulty 10/10, but her quality a lowly 3/10 (and the 2 points she has are for how the rest of her moves are actually really solid). She's the only fight I can think of where I've repeatedly thought "If she doesn't do this one move, I can win." Every other time I've had that thought, I've been able to see where I screwed up, or immediately followed up that thought after dying "If I dodge like this or that, maybe I can get it this next time and it won't be 'that one move' any more."

I wanted to write the same. Morgott was weak af. After learning to deal with Margit it felt like just a juiced version of that kind of fight and I was able to deal with it on my first try at lvl 80. Radahn took me an entire evening to beat, easily 25 trys. I wiped at 0.1% hp once and almost had a stroke.

I feel like this is a big problem for bosses after Radahn and before mountaintop. There are so many runes everywhere and I wasn’t even farming just exploring and I felt super overleveled for that fight. Was level 93. Worst part was that Lyendell itself was challenging, but Godfrey and Morgott took two tries apiece.

Placidusax is fairly manageable at range. I beat Mohg by timing a stance break when he was right about half health, giving me just enough time to kill him before he could heal up.

I feel as though a lot of the bosses before like malenia and maybe some other bosses are interchangeable based on the build you use, a lot of the bosses you found hard were easy for a my int/faith build (sword of night and flame and either catalyst or seal) while the opposite was true for a lot of trash mobs and gank fights for me that acted as “vigor checks” imo

>sword of night and flame The weapon trivializes every boss in the game. Even Malenia if you use mimic tear.

this is so true, i kept reading horror stories about the godskin duo only to annihilate them first try with my super dragon breath build while my summon did nothing more than face tank for a few seconds before dying, malenia thou she kicked my ass so much no matter what i tried, sometimes she'd get stunlocked and all of a sudden hyper-armors all her health back

Sword of night and flame, bloodhound blade and moonvail really easily beat most bosses without much difficulty and I hope the weapon arts get nerfed (not too much though don't make them useless) moonvail is the greatest sinner here (pvp with that 1-2 shots pretty much any player even with high vigor and heavy armour unless you use a certain incantation)

@@theninja2k14 the biggest problem with the game is that you have to completely rely on bleed procs or weapon arts to deal any sort of damage because the later bosses have beeefy ass health bars and they do half your health per hit. say what you will about how good it is the balancing in this game is horrible.

@@fayetodeath but I think the balance is what makes it so great. It shouldn’t be perfectly balanced. There needs to be op weapons. People that want to be op and cheese can, and people that want the classic 1v1 souls experience can have that too. That’s the beauty of this game.

Maleina was so tough the sheer joy I felt when after a literal day I killed her was unparalleled hardest boss in the series no doubt in my mind. Also fuck the god skin duo that’s the only boss in the game which just makes me think why from?

Malenia is difficult for all the wrong reasons. Whoever created her simply wanted the get to say afterwards „i created the most difficult boss ever“ without adding balance to that statement. The Nameless King, just like Malenia, is an optional boss, but done far better. While pretty OP, there are aspects of him that you can learn so that you can best him afterwards. Even in the second phase where he even gets more busted, you can still master his routines. But Malenia on the other hand has *everything* in Phase 1. *All* the Damage, *all* the HP, *all* the defense, *all* the speed, lifesteal, the Scarlet Rot, Guaranteed damage with the Waterflow dance and the range. And it wouldn’t be too bad if her second phase would happen when she reaches 50% HP, but nope, 2 full entire health bars to chip down. And her second phase is just straight up unfair. That’s why most of the time when people talking about beating her, they constantly mention having luck with good RNG and less dodge skill or something. There is a reason why the majority also doesn’t accept that her battle with Radahn was „a draw“ and that he beat her if she didn’t cheat and got carried away.
