Rao Ranmal (reigned 1346-1404 AD): A great king of the Rathod dynasty of Idar. He was the son of Kharhatji, a descendant of Rathore Songajji of Marwar. When Rao Ranmal came to the throne of Idar, the power of the Subas (Nazims) of the Sultans of Delhi had stabilized in Patan. However, there was frequent power struggle between them. In such a situation, Ranmal tried to strengthen Idar. Thus Idar was a tributary state of Delhi and the Sultan there had to pay ransom; But he never willingly paid ransom to the Subas and Sultans.
Under the pressure of powerful authorities, Eider often had to resort to conflict. Rao's contemporary poet Sridhar Vyas has described such struggles of Rao in detail in his medieval Gujarati poem Ranmal Chhand. Suba Zafar Khan of Gujarat went to war with Bengali, his successor Shamsuddin Abu Rija, his successor Shamsuddin Damgani and Malik Mufarrah Sultan. In the war with Mufarrah (about 1390 AD) other Hindu kings also came to his aid. In this, the important contribution of Sambhar-Naresh Santal of Marwar is considered.
For some time, Rao paid ransom to Delhi, but after refusing to pay the ransom, E. S. In 1394, Zafar Khan, the last Suba of Gujarat, invaded Idar and besieged the fort. The internal supply-system was cut off completely and the situation became critical and finally the Rao had to compromise. Giving ransom to Zafar Khan, he raised the siege. Even after this, Zafar Khan and his son Tatar Khan climbed the Eder twice. e. S. In 1398 Rao resisted the invasion and had to retreat.
During the last extended battle, Rao fought bravely but did not lose Visnagar. Zafar Khan destroyed the Hindu temples of Idar. He organized an army for the protection of the fort and returned to Patan himself. After this Rao immediately recaptured Idar. It is noteworthy that there is no unanimity between the details and results of Sridhar Kavina's poetry and Muslim chroniclers.
