Great to see your daughter help you and to see her caring about the process and finished project. Most teens are headphones in, everything tuned out. I've watched several of your videos and a couple other guys put the S-21 together. I don't know if I will get a kitplane. No pilot's license yet, just a general love of aviation and flying.

I think it’s great that you have your daughter helping out. Something she will remember all her life. Great stuff, like your videos, thought process and the fact that you are willing to share with the public.

Rolling the skin was fun. I used my garage door torsion spring winding rods as they are larger and longer than a screwdriver and gave good leverage. I then drilled the holes for them parallel to the table and perpendicular to the clecos and that let me rotate them until they hit the table and that gave the required 180 of rotation. Worked quite well and the rolled edges came together nicely.

It is generally a good idea to leave parts clecoed while you are drilling. I am thinking in particular how you drilled your leading edge. I generally cleco every 3rd hole and drill the two in between and then move the clecos one hole and drill the clecoed holes. That holds things well aligned while drilling.

I did not see it in the video, but did you debur the holes in the skin after you drilled the holes? I did not see that, but maybe I just missed it or you did it off camera. That can keep your rivet heads from being tight to the skin.

We are gonna have the factory do all this...end up with an SLSA. I used to build my own houses after work and weekends, often taking 3 years to get one done. The obvious difference is...if you make a mistake on a house you just get more wood and do it again. And oh yea, my dogs wandered around too...not helping. The kids were too little to help and besides, power tools are dangerous in a teens hands.

Yup, done the house thing with kids as well. I would not discourage them from using tools though (we need to build more stuff). My two girls are hands on every chance. Congrats on your plane, been to Hays twice already, they will do an amazing job.

@@simdpk One of my sons grew up to become a structural engineer and builds his own stuff now too. He is a hot air balloon pilot (commercial) as a hobby. His wife is getting her private pilots cert. The other kids couldn't run a pair of pliers, but that's okay...their talents are in other areas.

I did not see you debur the drilled holes. Deburring is a critical step for strength.

Good eye and very true. I probably cut that tedious part out of the video.
