It's so clear when authors (like Nikki St. Crowe and H.D. Carlton) don't have and don't care to develop the skills for an actually different sounding POV when they switch to the male lead(s), so they just add a constant stream of obscenities to indicated the 'rough and tough manliness' as if it doesn't instead make them sound like tryhard overcompensating 14 year olds. ETA: also, it just makes it very funny when they try this very unearned 50SOG style 'dominance' when they clearly have the strength of personality of a piece of wet toilet paper. I'm sorry, the frat boy being able to over-aggressively tackle someone during a casual game of ball and shouting f-bombs between every other word doesn't even make them a good top and IMO that's all these characters resemble.

Not to reveal absolutely way too much personal information about myself, but as someone who played their fair share of smutty Japanese dating sims in my youth, like recognizes like, Ms. Nikki St.Crowe. A children's story reimagining with a why-choose setting and twins who... ahem... enjoy their time with the protagonist TOGETHER is unfortunately not an uncommon trope, and random magic plant sexy times is pretty par for the course as well. All that is to say, my mind is already ruined so I was not surprised but hearing it be reacted to in real time was still very entertaining.

I didn't even mamke this connection until you mentioned it! I never could play those games but I used to watch isekai harems as a kid (genuinely for the plot, I wasn't sure why random women kept on popping up in my "high-fantasy adventure stories") and the plant thing is so common, man.

We MUST confront fantasy authors and their cookie cutter themes. - Dumb/naive Female main character. - Mother feigning for power, and is willing to use anyone even her own daughters to get her there. - Male main character who is grumpy and angry. - Male main character who is sex obsessed and wants to “ruin” main character. - Female main character who looks innocent, but actually enjoys lots of sex/kinks - A scene where F main character shows off her sexual behaviors as a way to taint her image and anger M main character. This is giving “Neon Gods” again and I gave that book away for free even though I paid like $25 for it 🥴

I remember it in greek mythology as someone believing they are better than one of the gods and the god smacks them down for it (arachne’s weaver to spider journey, icarus (which punished daedalus, who created the wings, too), oedipus started his cycle when he wouldn’t give way on the road (though idk if that’s hubris in regards to the gods?), etc); a dangerous kind of overconfidence The app formerly known as twitter comes to mind, it briefly played a bit of a god’s role in that way not too long ago…

21:58 that barf noise was so good and so perfectly, emotionally encapsulating of this experience 🤣🤣 i think the use of hubris (discussed just before) wasn't wrong there (and god forbid I defend this work LMAO but) - she's hammering on his back and says its no use because of his hubris, and I think it's pretty accurate. He's deciding he knows best in the situation and forcibly removing her, and she's telling him not to and he's doing it anyway - so I'd say it's correct, but in more of a 'wow! What an arrogant, pompous arsehole treating her like a tantruming child he can't control in a public space' way rather than a 'oo he's so sexy' (still treating her like a tantruming child he can't control in a public space 😬. So, technically correct, I'd say, but almost certainly not for the reasons the author was intending 😂 but most of the between scenes just feel like my writing an essay days, trying to get to the word count so I can go back to my smut fics
