The "girlfriend" is actually a dude, you are not the first to confuse him when you can't see his ugly face. :) About the "larping", one cannot expect two people actually killing each other. I am afraid but those type of duels have been banned long time ago :( We all wish that the noble institution of duelling to resolve private matters could make a come back. Until then duels with safe fencing equipment has to suffice. What you see here is a fine example of Historical European Martial Arts, a discipline that try to reconstruct the old ways of duelling between people with different type of weapons. There is a part of study manuscripts from centuries ago as well reconstructing what tjose "manuals" talk about: an interesting mix of academic work together with sport. They use modern fencing equipment and non letal weapons, but the techniques adopted are as close as they could be to the historical originals.

@@thomastuffin6171 That is not entirely accurate. In the Spanish Destreza Vulgar, at the beginning of the seventeenth century, but of medieval tradition, there was the trick called "manotada", which consisted of deflecting the point of the opposite sword with the hand. And at the beginning of the 18th century, Lorenç de Rada, Verdadera Destreza master, warned against the possibility that the opponent could hold the point of our rapier with his hand. Sword were held by hand as a last solution. In the Spanish Verdadera Destreza, disarmaments ("movimiento de conclusión") are very common, although they are made grabing the hand protection. This type of techniques are even described, with a one-and-a-half sword, in the "Flos Duellatorum" by Fiore dei Liberi (1410).

Indeed we have the defender that always try to manage distance, and get away from the opponent's blade. The attacker never over commit, it will be too dangerous and will be stab too. You can see sometimes the blade bend: that's a stab that went deep. Rapier is dangw of distance and geometry. As written above with a different weapon it would be different
