Using a Toggle or "Fiddlestick" has quickly become a novelty item in Canyoneering. Often any toggle is referred to as a Fiddlestick as reference. A Toggle system is an anchor system in Canyoneering that allows the anchor area to be left clean if need be. It also allows for rope to be cleaned off of an anchor with minimal damage to the rock and canyon. As the sport of Canyoneering is growing more and more people are travelling through the slot canyon and not properly rigging anchors which then cause damage to both the rock and the rope and can create issues for future Canyoneers. A toggle system or Fiddlestick can be a bit tricky and has to be properly placed and situated to both allow for a clean pull and retrieval and for a safe rappel for all the party. Most beginning canyoneers struggle to know what to do with a Toggle and how to properly use it. It is recommended to get properly trained in the use of a toggle from an experienced canyoneer or canyoneering instructor. Videos and online documentation are not a suitable replacement for proper instruction and training.
